"I guess I should tell you now," Kellan said. "No one can leave without my authorization and armed accompaniment. It's nothing personal, but things are... uncertain, at the moment." And I don't quite trust you, he finished mentally. "The eastern wing of the basement is also off limits, as are the king and queen's suites on the top floor. If you have any issues, take them up with me and no one else."

Jasper
 "We can't leave? Seriously?! You can't be all like, 'Oh, yeah, you have so much freedom,' and then turn around and tell me I'll be stuck there!," Jasper exclaimed irritably, throwing his hands up to accentuate his point. Forbidden basement, king and queen's rooms, huh? Well we all know where I'm going, he added silently, smirking inwardly.

Kellan
Kellan pinched the bridge of his nose and muttered under his breath for a second, trying to keep himself from an outburst he would regret. "Unless you'd like to be executed by a mob of angry citizens for allegiance to the crown? I'm not going to take that risk. So yes, you're not leaving without permission."

Jasper
 "Just like home," he spat angrily under his breath, crossing his arms again, tighter and more grumpily this time, and turning to glare out the window to his left. I want to leave. Why can't I just leave? Get out? Anything at all?

Kellan
"Anyone else have an objection?" Kellan snapped. He wasn't trying to bite heads off, but he was getting really tired of people challenging his decisions.

Wren
Wren watched the exchange, slightly uncomfortable. She shook her head, glancing at the others. 

Huli
She listened quietly, still looking out the window (mostly at the bobbing heads of soldiers but also at the passing landscape). Now she turned toward the group. "I have a question, actually. Does anyone want another lollipop?" 

Kellan
Kellan was ready to snap a reply and had opened his mouth to do so when he realized Huli wasn't going to question his authority and was, in fact, offering him a lollipop. "I'll take one," he said instead.

Jasper
 "No, nothing can make up for the injustice I feel," he responded dramatically, his voice still bitter, turning even more in the direction of the window.

Huli
"Any particular flavor?" Huli picked up her basket from by her feet and placed it on her lap. She opened it and peered at the assorted hard candy inside, dispersed among the couple other items she'd put in there that morning.

Kellan
Kellan shrugged. "I don't really have a preference." If the boy's going to be this difficult the entire time... I don't have time for everyone to challenge my authority at every step. I just need people who will do what I ask so we all survive this war.

Outlaw
She could hear the conversation going on inside the carriage from her position riding behind it, and she had a feeling if whoever was challenging the prince kept up his act he might not be around long. She didn't follow rules usually, but she wasn't completely dumb either when it came down to when was an appropriate time to just zip her mouth and follow them.

Kellan (think elsa's castle made of sparkly obsidian here)
Kellan glanced out the window. They were approaching Castle Oria, an elegant, sparkling structure made of starglass obsidian, with spires rising high into the clear sky. The grounds around the castle were immaculate, and surrounded by another wall of starglass obsidian and what could be called a paranoid number of guards at regular intervals. Kellan breathed a sigh of relief and exasperation - he had mixed feelings about returning to his "home."

Huli
She handed him the first lollipop she grabbed and turned to look out the window at the castle now looming into view. "Where did all the obsidian come from?"

Wren
"It's not just obsidian. It's starglass," Wren said, pressing a hand to the glass. "You can't just find that anywhere. It's an enchantment." Kellan nodded. The castle is well over five hundred years old. We're not sure who built it." They pulled through the first gate onto the half-mile long driveway up to the innermost gate. From there, they could enter the castle via large starglass obsidian doors, made to look just like a solid wall.

She clenched and unclenched her fist that wasn't on the reins. She hated enclosed spaces. "I'm gonna go blind looking at the castle" she mumbled under her breath the Phantom and Spook. They both snorted their agreement.
