Jasper
The least you could've done was answer my question, Jasper thought bitterly; he raised his hand enthusiastically despite his momentary annoyance. I'm gonna be- What am I gonna be? A hero? A... Ooh, an outlaw? Some kind of warrior? Whatever, I'll finally get to get out!

Wren
Slowly, people raised their hands. Wren was surprised to see that her parents were among the first to do so. I guess I should raise mine too. Hesitantly, she followed suit. "It's decided then," the woman said. "We'll do as the prince asks." She paused to look at the crowd. "Who will we choose to go?"

Huli
Her gaze drifted to the street behind the spokeswoman, where Huli's house was nestled. For the first few years she'd lived there with an elderly lady who'd taken her in. She had passed away. Huli had gotten used to living peacefully, minding her own business, doing her thing, not having to worry about what tomorrow would bring. But... She glanced at the hill the prince and his caravan had disappeared behind. She'd like to know if they still had those horrid programs and fortresses. On top of that, she was curious about.. several things, really. After pondering for a minute she sighed and stepped out. "I'll go." Probably a mistake, Huli thought, shrugging internally.

Jasper
"Me!," Jasper shouted, not bothering to curb his excitement even slightly. Once his brain registered that another voice had piped up, he took a few steps to the side so he could look around the podium, eyes coming to rest on a girl wearing cat ears on her head. That's... different. But cool. He shot her a large, crooked grin and a quick wave before darting back around to where he had been standing before.

Outlaw
She slowly stood as a cast for volunteers was called. "I'll go" she offered, slipping on a reassuring hand on her black's neck as its head shot up in shock at her volunteering.

Arian

Silver orbs peer at the scene from the shadows of a nearby building. He could hear the echoes of voices, all speaking over each other so rapidly it had became a too much of a jumbled mess to decipher from. He could only guess that something out of the ordinary was happening. He always knew the patterns of the village even when he was not an active participant. He was a observer and a commentator within his own head. He would chuckle when he watched young men make fools of themselves in front of women and he would tighten his jaw and squeeze his fists when he watched a husband beat his wife. No, he was never a participant in the madness within the village. No one even knew he existed. Good, his father would say with his darkened eyes and the vein in his forehead popping out the way it did. He always had a temper.
Arian was curious of this sudden gathering. So curious that he even strained a bit to listen which was out of the ordinary for him. Finally, removing himself from his comforting darkness, he walked towards the crowd. He wore dark and old. He mimicked a peasant the way he was dressed and for all he knew maybe he was. He never knew a life of washed clothes or new ones for that matter. He wore what he could muster up. Now that he was closer, he was able to listen to the gossip. A prince in town demanding people to fight for him. This made the lengthy man chuckle, his white teeth almost peering through his chapped lips. Great. Time for people to show off how big their ego is, he thought, but even his eyes began to gleam with excitement at the idea. Maybe his useless life might have some importance. You will always be useless. You're only as useless as the mother who birthed you is, he could hear his father's voice grumble. He had gotten his father's voice down pat within his head. Even had it down to the tint of gruffness in it.

Blake
A hand gripped her shoulder, nails biting harshly into her skin and shoved Blake forwards to the front of the crowd. She stumbled on someone's something, the rough handling leading her to end up on the ground with her head very nearly catching on the sharp corner of the podium. She glared up at her mother, the woman in mention leering down at her as she spoke. "Take the runt." She barked, boldly eying the spokeswoman with a crazed sort of anger. "We've no need for a defect here anyways, so don't feel obliged to return her." She shot Blake one last nasty look, grabbing the young children at her sides just as roughly as she'd handled her eldest and shoved them back through the crowd, hurrying off before anyone could return the girl to her. Blake scowled, standing up and dusting herself off with the help of a kind lady who knelt to pull her up before nodding once at the lady - well, she wanted an out, didn't she? I would have volunteered anyways, but of course she had to have the last word, that nasty, conniving little- The girl pushed a heavy breath through her gritted teeth, forcibly attempting to calm herself as she crossed her arms and eyed the crowd.

Arian

He silently weighed out the pros and cons as he watched people volunteer their lives. Lives who could have been more meaningful then this. Just a number in a war that wasn't even necessarily their own. He noticed some of the people in particular that had raised their hands. One being a small boy that couldn't be any younger than 12. Another was a girl around his age who was quite the opposite of his darkness. Maybe not only physically different as he noticed her headband. The next volunteer he noticed was a dark haired girl. Also around his age, but he had guessed a tad bit younger. Next, his eyes caught the sight of a taller girl. Much taller. And spotted with details on her body he could only guess to be scars from his distance from her. Lastly, he noticed a younger girl being pushed forward by what only he could guess would be her mother. Yes. These would be the people he would die next to if he were to enter this war. And still with that thought in his head, he raised his hand, presenting himself as a volunteer.

Kellan
"How long has it been?" Kellan asked the man next to him, who held up his sun timer to the sky. "Almost an hour - we'd better start heading down." Kellan nodded. Raising his voice to the rest of his group, he called, "Everyone! We're moving out into the valley." The group scurried to obey his order. "Guards, be alert. If this goes the wrong way, I want to be ready.

Wren
The lady waited a few minutes more, until her attention was snagged by movement on the hill. "It's decided then," she said, still watching the hill. "The volunteers will go with the prince, and we will all pray for your return."

Outlaw
She waited for the prince to return. Now what have I gone and gotten myself into?? She wondered. "How am I sposed to even act around a prince?" She mumbled in a low tone to her mares. "Dunno. Without sarcasm probably." Phantom informed her, swishing her black tail. She rolled her eyes at the mares.

Jasper
Jasper's eyes darted from volunteer to volunteer; he made a mental note of what each of them looked like, smile still on his face, though he was doing his best to subdue it. He rocked back on his heels for a moment before faint sounds in the distance caught his attention; he spun around to face the hill, watching in forced stillness as the prince and his men descended the hill once more.

Huli
Huli studied the faces of the others who would be leaving the peaceful little town before turning her gaze to the movement on the hill that had transfixed many in the crowd. She reached up and adjusted the little silver accessory, as it had shifted sometime during the day.

Kellan
Kellan was both glad and filled with dread as they came up to the village to find everyone watching him. "What is your answer?" He asked an old woman in the center of the square. "We've gathered volunteers to assist you." She nodded to a group of people who were mostly his age. "Excellent," he said, squeezing his hands into fists to keep from fidgeting. He was both relieved and unhappy that they'd cooperated. On one hand, he'd gotten what he wanted, but it would have been easier to walk away and let his army deal with the village. "We'll leave at once." His guard motioned for the group to follow as they left.

Jasper
"Whatever you say, Your Highness," he responded, comically deepening his voice, straightening his back, and pasting his arms against his sides. After a moment, he snickered to himself, dropping his formal stance and scampering after the prince, jogging until he reached the young man's side. "So, where are we going, exactly?," Jasper asked, absently raking a hand through his hair in a pointless effort to smooth it down.

Huli
Huli followed the prince, not quite near enough to overhear Jasper’s question. She stepped closer, opening her basket and rifling through it. “Does anyone want a lollipop?” The question seemed directed to the group at large. “I have some in my basket - I’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth.” Hopefully this would help break the tense atmosphere a little bit and serve as somewhat of an icebreaker for the group. Huli pulled out a handful of assorted flavors, selected one for herself, and passed the bunch to Jasper. “Once you’ve picked one, or none, pass them on, please.” She tugged the wrapper off hers and tucked it into the basket, slipping the candy into her mouth. She’d taken a watermelon one.
