Kahlen 
Kahlen nodded. She'd already known long before she had actually met the girl. 

Auberon
Auberon stopped, looking back at Kahlen with confusion. He still had no clue what they were talking about, but the word 'mortal' had gotten his attention.

Margot
Em glanced around the hall. "So... Okay. Good to know I won't be the only one here who sees the monsters." 

Kahlen 
Kahlen shrugged, then tilted her head. Is that... hmm
 I thought there was... but there isn't. Strange. With that, she caught up to Auberon. 

Auberon
Auberon looked back and fourth between the girl and Kahlen, then finally focused on Kahlen. 

Margot
Her eyes roamed the hallway in search of somewhere to go. There was Georgia and Cecelia, heading to their lockers. Em was about to go after them when someone used her head as an armrest. She stepped out, looking up and smiling. "You aren't late!" Her friend shook his head, grinning. "I will be tomorrow. But you want to compare schedules etc etc." Em snatched the papers from his hand before he could pull them away and hold them above his head (and therefore out of her reach). "Sweet! We've got math and science together." "So I can ignore you in math and torment you in science. Perfect." Em giggled. "Whatever. Just admit you love math." "But then I'd be a nerd." "You already are, T." The faux wounded expression made her laugh and he snagged his papers back. "I didn't see your locker number!" "That's too bad," he said, slowly raising it just out of her reach. "Diabolical." "Try jumping." "No way." "Then I guess you'll never know."

Kahlen 
"She knows Aunt Claire, speaks French, can see through the mist, and her brother's a demigod," Kahlen said, her tone slightly irritable. 

Auberon
Auberon thought over that list quietly, shrugging after he did so. "Sucks to be her," he concluded.

Kahlen 
"It gets worse from there- if Claire finds out, she's practically adopted. I don't need people at my house for cookies or whatnot- excluding precious few, but still! Anyway, I think we need to turn left."

Auberon
Auberon sighed. "Just trap yourself in the bedroom or something. Or come walk in the park with me," Auberon suggested, motioning for her to lead the way.

Kahlen 
"Sounds like a plan," Kahlen said as she turned the corner to a different hall. "Number?"

Auberon
"Five thousand-four- wait," Auberon started, following Kahlen. "What number?"

Kahlen 
A giggle had escaped before Kahlen could smother it. She covered her mouth with her hand to try to stop them, but the attempt was unsuccessful. "- No- not that- not that number," she managed.

Margot
Em stuck her tongue out at him. "Okay. I'll just find out when I see you at your locker." She turned and started down the hall toward her own locker. She hadn't gone more than a few steps when Tim groaned. She stopped and looked back to see him rolling his eyes. "Fine, but you ruined the fun. Here." "Thanks!" Em took the paper and glanced at his locker number. 178. Really? Come on. "Dead end. Maybe next time." "You say that every year." "Shut up, T." The smile on her face belied the harsh tone.

 Mason bit back a disgruntled sigh, grabbing the girl's arm and pulling it off of his head. "I told you not to call me that," he grumbled. He and Jess had met in a nearby coffee shop not long before the start of school, and, somehow, she'd already given him a distasteful array of new nicknames, all of which he hated with a passion.
