 "Me neither," Mason muttered. "But that's besides the point. Why you're here, you ask? I dunno, you tell me. You're the one who brought yourself here, pal."

Auberon
"'Pal'?" Auberon repeated, glaring at Mason. "Choose what you call me wisely please, thanks," Auberon snapped, although he did it in such an uncaring way nobody could ever suspect he was mad about it. "Tell me what you need."

Mason
 "Whatever you say, chief," he replied nonchalantly, sitting down and sliding off of the stage, coming to stand next to Auberon. He threw his arm around the taller boy's shoulders, gesturing with his other hand as he talked. "You wanna know what I really need? A really great drummer. Will I get a really great drummer? No. I also need more folks like her," he finished, pointing up at Lynn.

Chance
His eyes widened as the girl made it in. Okay, maybe it wasn't hopeless. So many people had left already that Chance was next in line. He watched the interaction going on, quietly rehearsing his song in his head. It was kind of a personal song but he had expected it to be a private audition and hadn't practiced anything else. 

Auberon
Auberon was about to protest against the 'chief' part, but was cut off by Mason's arm. He flinched, side stepping away from the boy. "Hey, look, I know it's hard for you to understand personal space, but you should at least try to respect it," he grumbled. "As for a drummer- well, I was going to offer but now that you say you'll never get one-" he turned around and started walking away, "-I suppose I'll be leaving." 

Mason
 "No, wait-," he started, jogging after Auberon. "Just- Try, if you want. I can't promise I'll let you in, but... Look, I'm just trying to get the best. Is that really so much to ask for?"

Auberon
"I was raised on a ranch," Auberon mumbled. "Do you really think I'm gonna be 'the best' at anything musically related?"

Outlaw 
She watched the two sharply, ready to send her dog after Mason if he threatened Auberon. The dog was also on high alert, watching them keenly. 

Mason
 "I was raised in the 1700s," he responded in a quiet tone so that no one but Auberon could hear him. "Bruce was raised in Cyan Groves, which you've never heard of for a reason. Joey was-," He cut himself off. "You get the idea."

"They had better music back then," Auberon mumbled. "And I feel like it was more common to get into music too."

Mason
 "Nah man, that's completely false. Music is awesome nowadays... for the most part. Have you even heard music from the '90s? 1990s, that is? I'm sad I wasn't around then. But it's okay, because hipsters view it as a godsend in the current age. If you don't wanna try, then don't try. But just know that I'm giving you a shot you probably won't get elsewhere." Wow, that statement brings back some memories...

Auberon
"Yes, actually I have. My dad was obsessed," Auberon said. "Now, if you really want me to try, lead me to wherever instead of trying to convince me. The more you want me to the less I'm gonna care."

Chance
He shifted nervously on his feet. Now that he was standing at the front of the line his doubts were coming back - they never really left - and he was tempted to leave. But he looked at his guitar and sucked in a deep breath. He went over the song another time in his mind. She would have wanted him to do this, anyway. So he had to try, at least in her memory if nothing else.

Mason
 "I rented this stage setup for a reason, you know." He paused, glancing back at the line. "Just think about it."
 He went back over to the steps and climbed up, reclaiming his spot in the corner, gesturing for the dude at the front of the line to come up and start playing.

Auberon
Auberon watched Mason as he left, shaking his head and smiling ever so slightly.
