Murder Mystery RP

Penn
The writing finally appeared. Penn took it away from the fire, putting out the ominously glowing corner. 
"You Are Invited
September 28, 2051
12:00 PM
Rail Trail, 722 S Pearl St, Albany, NY. Any idea what that means?"

Mei
"It's like the invites we got to come here. If I had signal I could look up the address," she added, with slight bitterness. Mei was about to hand him her envelope to check if the message was the same, but stopped herself before she moved. It took a little while, they were still in the middle of the woods, and the arrows continued to point onward. She stood. "We should keep going and check ours when we get back to the others, maybe?" 

Outlaw
Smoke slowly swirled around her face as she stood smoking her cigarette and pondering over the message on the paper. “Lead the way then.” She replied to Mei at her suggestion. 

Mei
"Okay," Mei said reluctantly. She stamped out the fire, not enjoying the way the shadows quickly filled back in. Gripping her flashlight anew, Mei scanned for the next arrow before heading off again into the undergrowth. She stopped and stooped to pick up a new envelope that was tied into a berry bush. This one said Avery Simmons across the front.

Penn 
Penn stuck the paper in his pocket next to the others. "Sounds good."

Mei
She passed the envelope to Penn wordlessly before pressing on, assuming it was meant for one of the people they'd left with the body, and as she stumbled upon one more envelope she noticed that there was, notably, no more arrows. This one had Shane Persimmon typed across the front, and Mei handed this one to Penn too. "I think that's the last one. Can we get out of the forest now? I don't know the way back," she admitted quietly. While the clearing still wasn't ideal it was better than the pitch dark under the trees, and though she loathed the idea of walking to her car later at least the path was more predictable.

Penn
"I tracked a straight line and left a marker or two," he said. He found himself reaching for her sleeve so she'd know where he was headed in the dark. It took him about ten seconds to realize what he was doing and he dropped it like poison ivy.

Outlaw
She trailed silently after them, puffing on her cigarette. After watching the two’s exchange with amusement, she spoke. “C’mon then” she said, setting out for the clearing. 

Mei
The small tug on her sleeve seemed like invitation enough for Mei and she clung to Penn's arm as they trekked their way back to the edge of the river, surprised to find that it helped somewhat with her fear of the dark. When they came back into the moonlight in the clearing she breathed an audible sigh of relief and released her hold on Penn.

Penn
One sentence was on loop in his brain the entire way down the path. It was incoherent babbling. When they reached the others, Penn had to take a moment to breathe. I've got to pull it together. There are clues to decipher and I will NOT be a mess.

Avery
Avery stopped her blabbering when she noticed the others come back, rolling her eyes and making a disgusted sound. "For God's sake, can you guys not be cringey and weird? Y'all barely know each other and you come back looking like your life depends on one another. Seriously, just because we fall under the pack animal category doesn't mean you need to be all over each other within the five minutes you have met." She tossed the stick she was carving towards the dead body, watching it hit the corpse before finding its place on the ground. "There's a reason people like this loser get murdered and it's because they don't find strength in individuality. Y'all are nasty." 

Penn
"Uh... what?"
Suddenly, he felt more mortified than he had when Mei called him cute to his face. "I don't - I don't think strength in individuality would have stopped something that can keep a body fresh for a decade. And what are you, ten? Isn't your version of dating holding hands in the middle school cafeteria over expired pizza?" Where was he getting this confidence? And why did he just imply anything about love in relation to him and Mei? "Not that, uh, anything is happening. We did meet today," he backtracked.

Outlaw 
She stood back watching Avery’s outburst, a slight grin forming around her cigarette, though the darkness hid it fairly well. Smoke wreathed around her as she got the grin to disappear before stepping further into the open, ignoring Penn’s retort, walking over to Shane, though she warily kept a small distance between them. “You good mate?” 

Avery
"No idiot my version of love is stabbing someone in the heart and watching as the light dies from their eyes." She shook her head and glanced back at the water, propping her head in her hand as if the two had completely ruined her day.

Shane
Shane jumped a bit at Outlaw's question, glancing briefly at her before nodding. "I'll be fine." It was then that he noticed Avery going off, furrowing his brow and mumbling just enough for Outlaw to hear, "I don't want to say this but that kid scares me more than anyone ever has."
