Penn
Penn considered everything for a moment. Why would a clue be a person? The lack of additional instructions was on brand with everything they had so far.Β
"When did you receive your invitation?" he asked. "What do you know about this place?"

Mei
She swept her flashlight in the direction the arrow pointed, finding another arrow on a stone that seemed to be placed purposefully on the ground. She slipped away from the other two, following the pointing arrows in an attempt to be helpful. At one point she glanced back, making sure she was still able to see and hear Penn and Outlaw through the brush, and then continued on until she stopped at a tree. Nailed to it was another envelope, with her name on it, and she removed it as carefully as she could, trying not to tear the paper.

Outlaw
β€œUhhh like, a week ago?” Was it a week ago? It was hard to remember things after all these years. Her recent benders sure didn’t help either. β€œI don’t know [censored] about this place, I don’t even live in New York, and what is Mei doing way over there?”

Penn
"Mei?" He looked around. "Rule number one, don't go by yourself," he muttered.Β
Something moved in the brush around them. Penn adjusted his backpack and started walking. "Time to go," he said, pulling out his flashlight. He aimed it at the sky and began flashing it in morse code. Don't move.

Mei
The paper inside the envelope was blank. Mei wasn't sure whether to feel disappointed, relieved, or unsettled, but she put the paper back in and glanced toward where she last saw Outlaw and Penn. They were gone, and she froze. Warily, she clicked off her flashlight, immediately regretting the decision. She reminded herself it was safer that way, so as to not draw unwanted attention, but she nocked an arrow on her bow. When something moved in the forest she spun toward it, drawing her bow back. Outlaw and Penn stepped forward and she let out a sigh, slowly relieving the tension in the string. "God, you scared me. I found an envelope with my name on it, it's blank too."Β

Penn
Penn frowned, but he didn't have time to dwell on it. "We should keep going," he said, listening to the continued rustling. "Where does the next sign point to?"

Outlaw
She only faintly listened to the other two, focusing on the rustling in the forest around them. Her blue eyes had a slight glow as she scanned the woods, searching. It was just out of her sight, as far as she could see in the dark, it was smart enough to stay past that threshold, whatever it was.Β

Mei
She returned the arrow to the quiver but kept her bow on hand, relieved to be able to turn on her flashlight again. The light illuminated another arrow on the tree, in the spot her envelope had been covering. "That way." When she turned back to the other two she hesitated. "What's happening?"Β

Penn
"Nothing major, but something is following us. We should keep going - I don't like the idea of staying in one spot."

Mei
"That seems a bit major." Mei started off in the direction the arrows pointed, trying to appear calm despite the fact this was somewhat the manifestation of her fears surrounding the dark. "Are the others okay? Do we know if it's a monster, human, or animal?" This last question was directed more towards Outlaw, and as Mei walked she fell back into her spot between the two of them again.

Penn
"Humans are endurance hunters. Whatever it is, if we keep moving, it will get tired eventually. I'm ah, not tooΒ  concerned about it," he said, thinking of the comforting weight in his pocket.

Outlaw
She trod quietly after the other, half of her occupied with where she was stepping, the other reaching out through the forest, searching through it’s roots, reaching out for the unknown stalker. There. She had found it. Now to find out what it was.Β

His confidence was not reassuring. "I hope you're right."Β

Penn
Penn glanced at her. With her bow in her hand, he was wary about touching her, but Mei seemed concerned. "I've been through worse areas," he said, passing his black light over the path as he walked. "Still in one piece."

Mei
"Yeah, I have too, but this could easily turn really bad quickly." Mei paused, watching her footing to keep herself from tripping because that was exactly what she needed about then. She offered Penn a feeble smile. "But it'll probably be fine. You seem to know what you're doing, and Outlaw is very... hm,Β forte et belle? Both of you seem to have a good handle on this."
