Another Sunny Update (new news 5/7)

You could always try and see if any local rescues have space open and would be willing to take her. As long as it is a good and reputable organization, she should receive good care at a place like that.

What is there to say about that sweet, sweet little face except that she is beyond precious. If love alone could make her well it's obvious she'd be jumping and running...you will do what is best for her no matter what I know. Absolutely aim for the moon!!!! And reach for the stars as well!! Sending as many good thoughts as I can gather by the armloads! 

Adding my good thoughts and well wishes for Sunny. I'm so sorry the two of you are facing such a horrendously hard thing. I hope the universe is kind to Sunny and she regains as much function as she can and will have a life without pain.

I totally understand what your going through, we had to sell our horses. ALl i thought about was what bad things were gonna happen to them. 

Im sure Sunny will find a good home if it does come to that, but I'm hoping it wont! ♥ I hope it goes good with the vet  ♥

Sunny had her vet recheck today. It was 3 agonizing hours later than it was supposed to be but it did go well when it finally happened! Sunny was her perfect little self for getting a couple x-rays taken. X-rays showed that the chip in her knee appears to be fusing where it should and in a good way!! Yay!!! Such a relief!

However, it does not mean Sunny is out of the wood's yet but we are on the right track for where we want to be.  :)   Sunny still has some swelling in the front of her knee, but overall, she is doing really well! Considering she is a baby horse who has been cooped up for a month, she is taking good care of her knee. She lays down to sleep every night also, so she gives her knee a chance to rest. She is staying fairly quiet. Every now and again she just can't help feeling her oats, just a wee bit. Silly girl! Her attitude is great, no depression at all. No serious pain issues either! We didn't check her out for soundness as she is still to be very limited on exercise, but things are looking good in that department as well. Sunny is sound at the walk, and as long as she helps take care of herself and I do my best to take care of her, hopefully she will come out of this just fine!

Prognosis: on the road to recovery! Another month of stall rest (or turnout in her 1 panel x 1 panel mini paddock so she can graze and be outside), continue cold hosing if possible, still no exercise/hand walking. Recheck in 1 month's time.

Just want to say, thank you all, again, so very, very much for your kindness, all of your responses and your support. This has been a stressful month for Sunny and I but it is comforting to know that I can share this burden with such a supportive and caring community. I am doing my best to help Sunny but you all are helping me. Thank you, I am endlessly grateful.   ♥

With all this pampering she is getting, she is turing into quite the diva!   lol   Such a character.

This is the one!! LOL I had to be gone for a bit...hard to imagine RL getting any more complicated than all of our current situations, but somehow it manages!...and I couldn't wait to get back to see if you had posted about Sunny. So I browsed, commented here and there, and then Voila! here it is.

I can't even begin to say how HAPPY I am for you and Sunny! I try to put myself in your place...that extra three hour wait, the torture of it...ugh. When it was all said and done you must have felt exhausted... after the happiness and exhilaration of course!

Getting such a wonderful prognosis is truly a gift...and I know we are all so relieved and happy for you. Sunny is a very special little girl, and you saw that from the very start. And she's already got quite the life story lol before a year old.
You know we're going to want birthday pictures! Wishing her continued improvement every day...and hoping that soon enough that 1x1 can become wide open spaces!! Hugs for you both!!

Thank you very much for your kindness and words of encouragement. Sunny is a special girl and we are so happy that she is doing so well!

With this type of injury, it can be very difficult to keep a horse quiet, while keeping it happy. For a young horse to be so level headed and calm is just awesome. It can get pretty boring being stalled so much. Most horses might develop bad habbits. I was worried maybe she would start pawing and possibly reinjure herself but Sunny doesn't seem to be doing anything like that. She just hangs out. Chats at the other horses sometimes. She is a happy girl and no one can tell her otherwise, bum knee or not. Sunny patience is enviable!

We skipped her latest farrier appointment as I think it is just too soon to possibly stress her carpus but hopefully next round she can get back on schedule. There is still some residual puffiness along the front of her carpus joint. Still trying to cold hose every other day now. Cold packing simply doesn't work (Sunny tolerated it very well but I couldn't get the frozen veggies to stay exactly where I wanted them and they didn't really seem to cool her knee well). Experimented with some bute to see if that would help and it appears not. Otherwise, her knee is looking well enough.

When I muck her stall, if she is in it, she will step towards me with her shoulder to get an itch and insist on getting her some attention! She loves blowing in my nose then giving me little horse kisses with her lips. Sweetest thing ever!    ♥

Sunny could really use a bath. Maybe I will wait till it is a little closer to her birthday so I can get some pics of her all clean and shiny! Just in time for her 1st birthday!    :)
