Auberon
"No, Outlaw! I don't want to hurt you or anyone! But you can't blame me for trying to protect myself, can you?" He snapped, harshly.

Outlaw
"Can you just go back to his place with me, please?" She asked, by now too miserable with herself to understand what he was talking about, although she hid her feelings perfectly.

Mason
"God, man, what do I have to do to get you to respond?," Mase asked in exasperation, tone more confused and borderline-desperate than unkind. "You kinda smiled that time - I'm close. What do I need to do, Chance? I want you to talk to me. Can't have a band if you don't freakin'* talk," he added lightheartedly, though there was an air of legitimate curiosity to his words.

Chance
He shrugged. "I just need some time." Chance shifted his attention to his guitar, recalling the melody he'd started earlier. He got his instrument out of fhe case, forcing himself to ignore the pocket with the notebook for now. He checked if it was in tune, then played what he'd come up with so far. He paused, mentally changed a note, and considered what to do next for the song.

Mason
Mason hummed softly in response, not saying anything more as he listened intently - though in a relaxed, noncritical way - to what Chance was playing. After a minute or so, he stood, walking over to the kitchen and grabbing a pen and a small, empty journal off the counter. He leaned back against said counter, flipping the book open and tapping the pen against the first page thoughtfully. "You got a name for that song yet?"

Chance
He glanced up and shook his head. "It's still a work in progress and I'm not very good with names." Chance shrugged. "A lot of mine just go without."

Mason
"Well do you have an idea of what you want it to be about?," he asked in response, scribbling a title in the white space at the top of the page: Chance Demo - Unnamed, Sep. 2018. Below that he quickly jotted down the chord progression of the first part Chance had been working on, clicking the pen in satisfaction when he was finished. "And, notebook number two is officially in play," he announced quietly to himself, lifting his gaze to look back over at Chance. "Okay, not sure if you have it written down anywhere or not but now I do too. Please continue."

Chance
Once again he shook his head. The song was currently no more than an idea for a melody he was testing out, so he hadn't thought much beyond that. Chance watched Mason write in the notebook with mild curiosity before turning back to his guitar. "Uh, yeah. Okay." He played through what he had already, paused half a second, and tried a series of chords. He stopped, played one again but slightly altered, then experimented with the next part.

Mason
Mason pushed off from the counter, continuing to listen as he walked back over to where he had been previously, closing the notebook before sitting down. He discarded it absentmindedly, though not without some degree of care, on his lap, resting his chin in his hand and peering up at his new friend in quiet observation.

Chance
He went on in that manner for a little while until he inevitably got stuck. He tried a few different things for that part before stopping and reaching for the pocket on his case. His fingers brushed against his notebook and he hesitated before ignoring it and grabbing some loose papers and the pen. He scanned through the bits and pieces of chords and lyrics that had gone into the pocket to either rot away or someday be used. He ended up just flipping one over and scribbling what he had so far so he wouldn't lose it. He needed to stock up on clean sheets of paper.

Mason
He remained still for a few moments after Chance had stopped playing, eyes narrowed in deep thought, flitting from floorboard to floorboard. Finally he stirred, casting his notebook off to the side and instead pulling his bass into his lap. He started to piece together a rough melody that was really nothing more than a few notes loosely strung together at that point in time, his playing considerably less than decent, though in his defense, it wasn't like he'd ever really played bass much before. Evidently, the bassline (if it could even be called that yet) was what he'd been trying to work out in his head while listening to Chance. The aforementioned guitarist's experiential tune had been on repeat in Mason's mind as he worked on his own, though that quickly grew to be too much to keep track of, so he met Chance with a brief request without lifting his focused gaze from the bass: "Do the thing. The first part, the perfected one. Play it."

Chance
Chance nodded and shoved the papers back into the pocket. He'd listened to what Mason had been playing so didn't really question it. He played the part he'd started with.

Mason
Mase paused, nodding to himself after a brief moment and resuming playing his own instrument. The mismatched instruments, one electric and mediocrely-played, the other acoustic and well-played, sounded more than a bit crude when played in unison, but the bones of something good were there - Mason knew it. Once he was satisfied, he motioned for Chance to stop playing, groping for his notebook and haphazardly laying his arms over the bass as he began to write. He drew a line under what he'd written earlier, giving the section its own title and jotting down his idea for a bassline. When he was done (it only took a moment), he closed the book, looking up at Chance, a slight, expectant grin decorating his expression. "How about that?"

Chance
He paused and thought for a moment. "It could be good." If I ever finish it, Chance added to himself. He seemed to be doing a lot of incomplete stuff lately.

Mason
"I think so too. I'll work on it a bit more, try to actually learn how to play this thing. Now we just need some drums, which- Dammit, how long has he been gone for now?," he questioned, abruptly cutting himself off when it dawned on him that Auberon had been missing for a time too long for Mason's conscious to brush off.
