Personalities

Introduction

I have noticed while training my young horses that the same training method for different horses can give different messages. And while I know this is normal for this feature I've noticed that since birth Bold Savage has not had a single "negative" message while Most Mixed has had most "negative" messages with some very few "positive". Some other young horses have had an even mixture of "negative" and "positive".

Because of this, I have started giving my young horses personalities of their own with Bold savage being in my eyes a bold/brave horse while Most Mixed is a more skittish/anxious/cautious horse.

My idea is that horses could be born with a personality random chosen, within maybe a range of 5 different personalities, by the code/game.

Personality Types

(These can be changed)
Just going to use 3 for my examples. These go from the "best" at the top to "worst" at the bottom.

Brave/Bold

Neutral/Calm

Fearful/Skittish

Personalities in Shows

Rarely or randomly depending on their personality if a horse performed extremely well (1st place) or not so well in a show (2nd, 3rd and so on) they could get a flavor message.  (does not affect showing)

Brave/Bold Horses

Positive Message Example: "Bold Savage was beyond expectations."

Negative Message Example: "Bold Savage was too eager."

Neutral/Calm horses

Positive Message Example: "Bold Savage performed extremely well."

Negative Message Example: "Bold Savage was being aloof."

Fearful/Skittish horses

Negative Message Example: "Bold Savage was unnerved by the crowd."

Personalities in Disciplines

Depending on their personality if a horse performed extremelly well (1st place) or not so well in a show (2nd, 3rd and so on) they could get a flavor message.

Each discipline could have a different worded message (will only give examples for the disciplines I have more knowledge of).

Brave/Bold Horses

- Dressage: "Bold Savage collection won the judges."
- Show Jumping: "Bold Savage was flying."
- Racing: "Bold Savage lead was tremendous"

Neutral/Calm horses

- Dressage: "Bold Savage was not bothered by the crowd."
- Show Jumping: "Water Jump was almost too scary."
- Racing: "Bold Savage endured the close-packed pack."

Fearful/Skittish horses

- Dressage: "Bold Savage was unnerved by the crowd."
- * Show Jumping: "Bold savage carefully completed the course."
- * Racing: "Bold Savage couldn't handle the pack and pulled ahead."

Personalities in Breeds

Some horse breeds have a higher chance of being born with a certain personality, for example:

Clydesdale - neutral/calm
Trakehner - bold/brave

Personalities in the horse page

Every time you go to your horses page there is a chance of a message popping up depending on your horse personality.

- Brave/Bold - "Bold Savage greeted you loudly from her stable."
-Neutral/Calm - "Bold Savage was snoozing in her stable."
- Fearful/Skittish - "Bold Savage spooked by your sudden appearance."

Personalities in young horse training

Now in real life it is possible to change a fearful/skittish horse to a more calmer by enduring and constant work so there could be a small chance by the end of the young horse training when we choose the discipline to train that another message would pop up along saying:

"Congratulations! Your hard work with Bold Savage made her into a calmer horse"

So your horse would go from a fearful/skittish horse to a calmer/neutral one.

Personalities in Gender

By Gelding your stallion there is a chance of your horse turning Neutral/Calm no matter its previous personality.

Chance is higher if you turn a Bold/Brave personality than Fearful/Skittish <----- good or no good?

I don't agree with personalities affecting showing at all, but I do like the idea of it just being an addition to horse pages, especially if random event messages and such are going to be added as per the poll so far. The horse training is what I was imagining in terms of discovering personality, both types of training included, with personality specific messages that are either positive or negative but still contribute the same amount to the training meter. It's not fair to make messages have a negative impact when the system (esp. foal training) currently requires you to train differently every day to get the maximum bonus.

I've always loved the idea of horse personalities as a bit of flavor text on our horses, but I don't support the idea of the personalities affecting the way they do in shows/riding school/etc.  It would be awesome to have some interesting text pop up after they run a show (especially if they place in the top three of a show) but the idea of it being anything more than text seems a bit too much.

I have over 400 horses when I actually have them all unlocked.  I have a lot locked at the moment because, well, it's a lot of work.  I don't think I can put in the brain power I would need to check every personality and decide where I would have to put the horse (shows, riding school, etc) in order for it to do well.  For 400 horses it's just too much.

I would love having more training messages, more 'win' messages, more little flavor texts in general, but to have it affect anything would just be too much work.

Thank you for your input!

I was also a bit worried about the personality in shows cause i wasnt sure how much work it would be. I will edit the idea to make it more simple to implement then!

What if it wasn't random, and was effected by their parents' personalities? Idk, this would be another thing to breed for and could negatively impact the economy...

I have edited the idea to take away the show component so basically the personalities would only be here to give flavor and i guess give more personality to our pixel horses xD

I would prefer for it to be random chosen, as i wrote in the post, now if this goes ahead and the developers decided to not make it random then its out of my hands :D

So, I don't know if any of you have heard of this newer sim called "Movement Sim"?
It's a showing equine game, kinda like this one.

Anyways, in this sim your horses have personalities randomly generated (or bred). And this personality is kind of ran by a number, and the more you raise the number, the better their personality gets. You can raise this number through success in showing, training, and care.

Some examples:

(As far as I know, the highest personality is "bombproof" which is in the 600s)

I like the idea of this affecting shows as long as the personality can change through care/neglect.
Now I'm not saying we should have this exact system, but I would love to have something similar to it!

that would be cool, maybe down the line if they ever put personalities in the game, not sure how big of a change in the code that would be.

Maybe also/or an interact button in the care part, click once a day... may give some rewards (experience?) very rarely but by clicking in the interact button a message could pop with some texting following the personality of the horse:

Fearfull/Slittish: "You extend your hand to pat Bold Savage nose but she shies away."

ummmm

That is such a smart idea! I totally support this idea! I would love to see that get put on the game! I believe that River liked it as well and I think she might be thinking of putting this feature in the game. Keep thinking of great ideas

I hope this is implemented, especially if they're able to be bred for. I don't want it to affect showing, I'd just like to have something cute and silly to breed for. I'd like for each horse to have a few personality traits (maybe 5?) The foal could then inherit 5 traits from the parents, with a higher chance of inheriting a trait if both parents have it. Some of the traits could be randomized, so it'd be possible to get, say, a 'grumpy' foal from parents who don't have that in their traits at all.

I think it'd be fun if each personality trait had a small bonus associated with it. A 'spirited' horse could get an extra turn in leisure riding. A 'patient' horse could get a bonus when put into a riding school as a lesson horse. The problem with this is that it'd be way too much if every horse had 5 different personality traits and therefore got 5 different bonuses. The other issue I see is figuring out enough bonuses because there aren't a lot of options for what we can do with our horses. Breeding bonuses would probably be the easiest avenue if this were to be implemented. Perhaps you can select a specific allele that would be guaranteed to pass onto an offspring, or at least have a higher chance of it being passed. If twins were added, maybe one personality type would have a higher chance of carrying twins (though I realize this isn't realistic). There could also be boosts to stat gain, or the possibility of having lower non-specialty stats.

I realize the boost idea would be extremely complicated to code. I intend it mostly to be a way to spark ideas, and realize that the amount of work put into it would probably not be worth the effort of coding all of the bonuses. I would be extremely happy with the 5 personality traits per horse and/or being able to breed for them, or simply having personalities at all. I just take great joy in making ideas way too complicated. xD Mostly I love anything that will give our horses more individuality. It's necessary to have so many horses in order to make money and I like things that make them more than just another money-making machine.

I would have to say I don't support. Mostly because I always feel like it should be the owners job to do that, and kind kf use their imagination to determine your horse. I feel like it causes much more pride as well with your herd.
