Default foal name sire x dam

Very straight forward: instead of having new foals be named 'new foal' have them named as 'sire x dam' (or have it as an option that they can be named that way).

Support.
The only issue I can think of is some horses have a long name so the foal's default name will go over the character limit.

I like that idea, it would help me identify a foal in a horse list faster, so for me it doesn't actually matter if the parent name is long. Max 10 x 10 letters or something like that and I will be fully content.

maybe have it like (i'm using the two users names above me) " Forgotten L. X Carin R. " if the names are too long?

Not everyone uses sire/dam in naming a foal.
This is just more code to be written that not everyone will appreciate.
It's easy enough to highlight "new foal" and type in what you want to suit your personal naming convention.

As others have said, I could see it being a problem if the parent(s) name(s) were super long.

I almost always name my foals right after breeding, clicking on the new foal from the congratulations message, so I already sort of know who the parents are and even when I wait its just a simple scroll up to see who the parents are for the ones that I name after their parents (I have some that I do and others that I don't, so this isn't always the case), so I have no problems with it just staying New Foal.

It could be because of those reasons and the fact I only breed a few foals at a time that I don't really see a point for this, but I also understand that there are others who do breed more than me who might find this helpful. I think the biggest issue I see is the names breaking things by being too long, I'm not sure how that could be worked around.

@Rancho - What Almare is trying to say is that for players who have large herds and breed a lot, having the foals be named Sire x Dam or Dam x Sire will make it easier for those players to know who that foal's parent's are. You could always change the name, so you don't have to name the foal's after their parents.

^ I think that's an entirely new thread Lucia. XD

The coding required to do what I'm suggesting is trivial. (Not that I think players should be considering coding when it comes to suggestions anyway.)

Names would need to be truncated to 14 characters, sure. (Horse's names can be 30 characters long.)

I played a game that did this already: it took the first 5(I think) characters from each parent and said, for example, my horses over there, Drift x Amber. Their names were actually Drifter and Amber, but I still knew who the foal belonged to.

I'm on the fence leaning towards no support, but I see both sides. This isn't something that really impacts me personally as I change the names/notes of foals I breed straight away, or if I don't manage to do that then they're really easy to sort out later anyway.

I feel like if this was implemented it'd be a nice touch, but also harder to find foals in your horse list. It'd also probably be a shortlived naming since most people are renaming all the time. I'm not sure breeding is that fast paced enough to be completely unaware of which foal is which.

ooh, you have a great point Maple. Maybe instead it could just say New Filly/Colt instead of jut New Foal, that way if you have like 10 'New Foal's the it's at least a little easier to figure out who's who :)

I see the idea and I see how it would be useful. However, it's rather easy, in my opinion, to just scroll down on the foal's page to their pedigree to see who their sire and dam are and then just scroll a little more to rename them.
