I just hit level 3, so I thought I'd say hello!

I'm Maggie, but here on EV I'm going by Wicked. I'm 26 and live in California. I used to ride horses all the time but eventually could no longer afford it, and unfortunately never got back into it once I could pay for it myself. But I've been into horse sims for probably around half my life, with the first of my memory being Horseland.

I stopped playing horse sims for awhile after I felt like I was spending too much real money on Howrse, and played some various other pet sims in the mean time. But recently I felt that craving for horses again and ended up finding this site through Google. I've been really picky about choosing a new site, because I really wanted one with good graphics/art as well as a good set-up. The art on this site is absolutely stunning! I got excited and already paid for a Deluxe membership for a month so I could add a fancy layout, also.

I've noticed that there's a low member count here. Is the site still fairly active? I'm not going anywhere unless it completely dies, just curious!

I also had another question about breeding, since it wasn't in the help area. What is breeding like on this game as far as pregnancy? How often can mares breed? How long are they pregnant for, or does the foal appear immediately? What's the cooldown period? I already noticed that most people seem to wait until later in life when the horse has stats built up, but was curious how many foals could be bred later on like that.

Hello! Welcome to EV :)

I think I can answer some of your questions about breeding:

- Mares can breed once every 7 days, and are pregnant for 5 days. You'll get a notification on the day the foal is born.
- If I remember correctly, the cooldown period between breedings (for mares) is 3 days. There is no cooldown for stallions.
- There is no limit on how many foals a mare or stallion can have, though you cannot inbreed or crossbreed in any way. There's more info about this in the Breeding section of the Help page.

EV's always been pretty small as far as I can tell. A lot of people left when plans for the recode stretched on, but now that the game has been recoded some people have come back and it's slowly growing again.

To add on to what Tolarie said, horses can breed as much as you want though most people only breed 1-3 foals out of a horse so that it's less likely to run into inbreeding issues, whether it's for yourself or the horse market. Since horses can't be inbred most people avoid horses from lines where there's a horse that's been bred a lot.

Allo and welcome to EV!

Honestly I don't have anything recent to compare this game to... the last time I did a horse sim was *cough* 9-10 years ago. O.o BUT showing is alive and well, and the forums seem to go in spurts of activity. There are join me's (I can't answer how many people hang out on them though). The art community, while not as active pre-recode (from what I've read) still has stuff going on. I'm not a RPer but I see the RP threads get actions. So hey.

Your layout and color scheme is awesome, by the way. I'm currently working on the graphics for mine...slow-going since I do it in 15 minute bursts of activity LOL.

ALSO, I'm sending you a fully upgraded tack set. Which discipline would you prefer?

Hello! Welcome to Equiverse! I highly encourage you to join The Tour Guides of Equiverse Club! We have all sorts of fun links and info for you to check out when you're lost!

I'll add my two cents here even though everybody else has answered your questions just in case something still doesn't make sense to you :)

1. The site is very active! We don't have thousands and thousands of members like Howrse, but we are a very friendly community where everybody knows everybody.
2. There is no limit to how many foals a mare can have.
3. Foals USED to appear immediately, but to add some realism to the game, they now will give birth after 7 days.
4. I BELIEVE the cool down period is 3 days.
5. Horses can't be bred once they turn 20? 21? It might be 21, but it might also be 20 lol. Some of the best breeding techniques are to wait until horses are around 17 before starting to breed them, that way they have built up plenty of stats and will produce fairly nice foals, and still have enough time left to have around 3-4 more foals.
