Leg Markings?!

#54764 Posted on 2016-07-20 09:50:04

I had 32 Clydesdale foals born in the last week and not one has a leg marking. I know Abbey recently stated that she'd changed the math to make foal leg markings more likely to be inherited so I was really excited to see what leg markings my foals would get. All of these foals were bred after Abbey made changes to the leg/facial marking math and a few of them do have facial markings (some blazes, bald faces, snips, etc.).

I had two thoughts after seeing this:
- 1) should I report this as a bug? I know that Abbey already said this wasn't a bug and it was just a math thing [she said this before changing the math though] but 32 foals (30 of these foals have consecutive IDs; born one after another this morning on my account) born without leg marking seems like a bug to me.
- 2) should I make a suggestion in the suggestion boards to make leg markings randomized, rather than inherited, like it was on EV1?

I know that leg and facial markings aren't critical to game-play but since we have the art, and it's suppose to be passed on to the foals, I'd really like to see that aspect of the game functioning again.

Let me know your thoughts and if you have any recently born foals with leg markings feel free to post them, I'd like to see how many foals were are born with leg markings after Abbey changed the math [Since July the 10th].

Just checked all the foals I had a couple days ago...cant tell on the sabinos..lol but my other foals have no leg markings.. Mind you, the one has both parents that are solid..but the dam of the other has white marking on her legs..

I went out and customized some clydes specifically to get the 4 white stockings and bald faces... hmmm..not sure if its a bug or not....wierd

Thanks Windspun,

I really think there is something buggy with the leg markings; particularly since the facial markings seem to be functioning properly.

Not a single one of my colts or fillies, born before or after the recent update, have any leg markings that aren't associated with a pinto pattern. That includes Chincoteagues, Appaloosas, and Gypsy Vanners.

Okay so I've been going through my foals again using the inspect element function and then hiding the sabino. I'm gonna keep doing this to see if there are any more hidden markings, let you know in a bit.

So far I found one horse with a leg marking hidden under the sabino,
yay one foal
another one

I thought I was still getting low leg markings because I was getting maybe 1 leg marking every couple of foals but the welsh foal crop born today had no leg markings on any of them with at least one parent having 3-4 whites.

For example:
4 whites x 4 whites = 0 whites
4 whites snip x 4 whites stripe = no white
4 whites x 4 whites = 0 whites

Parents are all custom horses from my old Fjord crop.

So it's not just me.

If you take my 32 horses and note that only 2 had white leg markings that comes to only 6% leg marking inheritance which seems really low. (Obviously this isn't a good statistical sampling size; but it's all I have right now).

Probably a coincidence but both inherited it from their mother and their father had no similar marking.

while I like the idea that we could breed for white markings, there's something wrong with the inheritance and I'd rather have it randomized like it was than have no white markings at all :(

My thoughts too, I think I might go ahead and put an official suggestion in. Though I love the thought of inheritance so much more.

Definitely something going wrong :P
I had this Filly just born today, and she has no markings at all, while her sire has 2 stockings, a sock and a coronet, while her dam has 3 stockings and a snip... :c

This has been an issue for months. I think I was the first one to bring it up on the bug board quite some time ago because I was noticing it in my TBs. Then as everything else came to breeding age I started noticing it in the others as well. I get a handful of facial markings, and no leg markings. Most of the horses I breed are completely solid, no markings at all. And since markings are heritable from the parents, or at least they're supposed to be, everything I breed from here on out will also be solid. It's tempting to lock them all and get some new foundations with markings and see if things improve down the road, but at the same time it means starting all over with foundations when a lot of my lines are pretty well established.

Has anyone noticed horses that have the little broken image icon on their horses (upper left on the horse image)? This is something I've noticed, largely in my TWHs. If I right-click on it it will usually take me to whatever the image is - often a leg marking - but for whatever reason it doesn't show up on the horse. If you're not understanding what I mean I can get screenshots.

i had noticed the broken image icon, but hadn't connected it with leg markings.

Abbey had mentioned correcting the white markings since those older posts; I was interested to see if other people were still having issues with markings inheriting correctly. Apparently they still are ;n;

i think restarting might not solve the problem, but you could give it a go.
