He hurried home and quickly changed out of his uniform. He had a bit of a longer break now. Ash decided just to wear comfortable clothes, throwing on casual pants and a comfy button-down. He glanced in the mirror, ran a hand through his hair to brush it back into place, and sighed. "It'll have to do," he muttered, walking out of the bathroom and into the kitchen. He washed his hands and looked around. What to cook? After some debating, he decided on linguini alfredo. As the noodles cooked, he prepared some garlic bread and put them into the oven to toast. The noodles finished, and he strained out the water. After returning the pot of noodles to the stove, he dumped in some premade alfredo (homemade, a family recipe, but he had it made already) sauce and fresh broccoli. He lowered the heat to keep it from burning and then went to set the table.

Skye 
Skye had to force herself to walk once she reached the last turn in the road. Nothing will be accomplished if I sprint like a maniac. I'd be there already, but I don't know if the suspense is helping or making the unbearable anticipation worse.

He set the last fork down and looked at the table a moment. He hadn't been sure where to sit Skye. It's probably notable that his "table" is more of a dark gray, marble counter isolated in the middle of the kitchen with stools around it. Ash had finally, hesitantly decided to put her across from his normal seat. He went over to the oven and took out the garlic bread. It was almost perfectly toasted, he noted with a bit of pride. He cut two pieces off and set one on each plate. 

Skye 
Skye was halfway there, and the suspense was excruciating. However, I will not be a complete mess like I was earlier. Not embarrassing myself to the fullest extent would be great, thanks in advance, Skye. Finally, she reached his house, and after a deep breath, knocked on the door. It's fine this is normal its fine don't embarrass yourself please

Ashwin
The knock on the door surprised him. He almost dropped the spoon he was using to stir the pasta. Ash set it down and took a deep breath before stepping out of the kitchen and walking to the door. He ran his hand through his hair one more time (it had probably gotten out of place while he cooked) and opened the door. It was Skye, like he had been expecting, and yet his heart rate jumped to a faster speed and he felt nervous. "Uh, hi." Let her in you idiot. "Oh, um, come on in." He swung the door wider and stepped out of the way.

Skye 
Skye stopped herself from starting in surprise when the door opened. For goodness' sake, you knew that was going to happen! Skye stepped over the threshold and attempted not to be awkward. "Um, thanks." She failed.

Ashwin
He closed the door. "The food should be ready now. It's this way." Ash walked back into the kitchen and checked on the pasta. It looked done. He gave it a stir just to make sure. Yeah, looked good. "You can sit down in either chair," he said to Skye as he rummaged through a drawer looking for an appropriately sized serving spoon.

Skye 
Right. Sit down. You've already broken rule one, so let's see how much worse it can get. Skye sat in the closer one, draping her jacket over the back. It felt strange not to have it on, although she was wearing a long-sleeve shirt underneath. When did I start being such a pessimist? Oh, right. Since reality happened.

Ashwin
He carried the pot over and set it down on the table out of the way. He pickes up Skye's plate and spooned some pasta onto it before putting it back down. He was glad he hadn't embarrassed himself yet. He grabbed his own plate and put food on it. Leaving the serving spoon in the pot, he crissed over to where he had left and garlic bread and picked up the two pieces. He returned, setting one on each plate, and then sat down. "I hope the food's okay." He glanced at the empty glasses on the table. You forgot drinks! "Uh, what would you like to drink?" 

Skye 
"I'm just fine with water," Skye replied, unsure what to do. She had never been in a situation like this before - family dinners years ago must have been similar, but honestly, Skye had hated those.

Ashwin
He picked up both glasses and filled them with water, carefully setting them back on the table. He sat down again and picked up his fork. "You can eat whenever you're ready. Um... how was your visit with your friend?"

Skye 
"Productive, I suppose." We just set up a new, organized rebellion in a hour, nothing major. If that's not productive, I don't know what is. "I haven't seen them in quite a while, so it was nice to... er, catch up." Skye took a bite of her pasta after she had finished. It was amazing!

Ashwin
He bit into his pasta to prolong the time before having to talk. I'm terrible at small talk. Ash thought as he chewed, trying to come up with something. Food is okay. I should have added chicken. Bad at small talk, Ash decided not to even bother with it. "What are your thoughts on new ways to possibly reduce crime? It seems to be abnormally high right now. Almost every shift I encounter more than one case, normally theft."

Skye 
That's a good question to ask me, of all people. Ha, good one, Ash. I'll have a fun time answering this question. "Most people don't have what they need. They can't get it by legal means, so they have no choice but to turn to theft and things like that." Maria, down the street. Nicolas around the corner. The Johnson kids. "They're good people, but they have to do the wrong thing for the right reason."

Ashwin
"I encounter people like that all the time. Minimum wage is so low right now, and there aren't as many jobs as there used to be. People really struggle." Ash tore a bit off his garlic bread and stabbed it with his fork. He swept up some pasta and ate it all together. After he swallowed he took a sip of his water before continuing. "I think something should be happening to help those kinds of people. But I also come across those who don't have a good reason for what they're doing. I'm unsure of how to discourage those sorts of people from committing crime. Today we caught a woman who has murdered. There was that guy who broke into my house. A lot of these people are acting out of anger." Ash shrugged. "While I make money because of crime, I work in the field I do because I want people to be safe. There's a staff meeting coming up and I'm hoping to be able to propose some new ideas to try and lower the crime rate."
