Wellthorne Academy

The brochure advertises them as a 'finishing school', but you've heard the rumours.

Wellthorne Academy, also known as Reform School.

You're surprised to find the brochure, you never thought that anyone would actually carry through the threat.

Despite the advertisements as somewhere to relax for students aged between 16 to 22 years old, where life skills are taught, as a place of respite and recuperation for troubled young adults and teenagers. A place where arts, alternative therapies and practices, great sports opportunities and a relaxed structure benefits the students passing through the doors.

The reality, from what you've heard, isn't quite as they make out. They have a running track, gyms and an Olympic sized pool, as well as a small amount of stables and a few horses. They do have alternative therapies, like reiki and crystal healing and feng shui, too, and there is a loose structure and plenty of art classes. But there's also a strict discipline on no relationships, on boys and girls being kept separate. On strict bed times, wake up calls, meal times and group sessions. On where you are during the day, and where you can go within the Academy. On no outside visits, and no outsiders visiting - only in exceptional circumstances are you allowed to leave before your time is up. A place where you are punished for missing breakfast, dinner and lights out roll calls, where if you're caught sneaking around and organising unapproved group activities you are punished. A place where class attendance may be optional in theory, but not attending class (and you have to attend at least one sports class, one arts class and one alternative class, as well as extras like languages, maths, religious studies or history) can cause more problems than not, especially if you aren't found in your dorm room, library, stables or in the spa pools or peaceful courtyard.

And so you feel yourself feeling a mixture of anticipation, anger and dread when you're being driven down the drive way, with the red brick old building looming up in front of you.

RULES:

must stick within EV rules - no graphic violence/swearing etc.

characters are NOT young offenders - things like excessive partying, minor vandalism, minor shoplifting, anger problems etc. are what the Academy deals with, not criminals.

No power playing etc.

We won't take turns in this, to keep action going.

I'd prefer genders are kept even but don't mind if they end up odd numbers.

Maine

Leonidas 'Leo' Connolly.

18 years old

At about 6"2 tall, Leo has a typical Spanish complexion, inherited from his mother. His hair is a mid-brown tone, not light enough for fair hair, but not dark enough for chestnut or nut brown and he has bright, emerald green eyes. He inherited his Irish jaw from his father, as well as his fathers Irish sense of humour. Leo speaks with a slight Cork accent, having grown up and lived in Co Cork, Ireland, until he was ten years old. He speaks Irish, Spanish and Italian fluently, his mother having taught him Spanish, and uses a lot of colloquialisms from Madrid, Spain as a result. He considers himself a linguist, and is attempting to learn Arabic, Japanese and Dutch. He is a competitive swimmer, specialising in his front crawl and butterfly, or at least he was, until his partying and habit of breaking and entering had led to him climbing a fence, falling and needing a total knee reconstruction after he managed to tear and smash all the bone and ligament in his left knee. This led to a further downward spiral into more destructive behaviour and partying, especially as his career in competitive swimming and promise of scholarships seemed to slip further and further away. His constant partying and trespassing while partying were also matched with a short and uncontrollable temper, which put an even bigger strain on the relationship with his father and mother. His mother was already chronically ill and occasionally wheelchair bound, but the stress Leo put on their relationship and family has seen her now permanently in a wheelchair. Whilst his knee has healed, he is also risking his own health in his determined attempts to get back into the pool competitively, whilst he is able to swim, his attempts to reach his peak fitness could also be his undoing.

Leo uses the sports facilities, specifically the pool and track (although he's also seen in the gym) and will occasionally ride. He does use the spa pools (sauna, jacuzzi, natural hot spring pool) to help with pain management of his knee, however often snaps at his teachers and sports therapists.

Briar 'Bree' van der Klair

17

Bree resents her parents, partly for naming her Briar. She is one of the middle children of seven, and was raised in a very conservative, religious household. As a result, she ended up rebelling by hanging out with what her parents considered 'undesirables', and using language they disapproved of. Bree's use of a nickname was another sign of deviance too them, as well as wearing makeup, dressing provocatively, partying and staying out late, and when they discovered she had a boyfriend it was one of the final straws for them, and they forced her to break up with him and made the decision to curb her behaviour. They chose Wellthorne, over other, more religious outfits, for Bree, as they felt the more they pushed her towards the church the further they'd push her away from it, and by allowing her to appreciate arts and history, she may start to appreciate religious art and history a bit more. Bree feels this is harsh on her, whilst she may have hung out with the wrong type of people, and tried smoking and alcohol, she doesn't feel her parents are fair.

Bree is around average height, and slim but not the slimmest girl. She has an athletic body type. She has mid length dirty blonde hair, and deep brown eyes. She wears makeup to hide freckles, and whilst she's relatively new to makeup and hair styling, she's learnt quickly.

Bree rides, enjoys painting and pottery and enjoys learning about the alternative therapy.

Madison 'Madi' McClain

17 years old

Madi turned from the quietest girl in school to the meanest girl to run across. It started when she was run from foster home to foster home until she was 13 years old. She was finally adopted by a wealthy family that have paid little to no attention to her since the adoption papers were signed. They neglected to buy her anything which triggered her shoplifting habits. She would shoplift clothes, cheap makeup, and the occasional cheap fashion jewelry though nothing was ever that expensive. Her parents finally got fed up with the publicity of her getting caught in the act and having to bail her out and have decided upon sending her to a school far away from home. Across the country to Wellthorne to be exact. She absolutely hates that her parent are sending her away even though she never really had a relationship with them. And even so that she didn't have any friends due to her kleptomaniac desires. She's still not entirely happy to be sent halfway across the country to place so unknown to her.

Madi is a short girl, 4'11", and has an athletic build to her. Her long auburn hair that has the tips dyed crimson red is naturally straight, but she makes it wavy and usually wears it as so. She has high cheek bones and a plump nose with freckles that stand out from her pale complexion. She has participated in dance her whole life and is often found in the gym creating a new dance routine or on the track running. She has no interest in horse riding in the slightest.  

Derek Halsey

18 years old

Derek has been living with his drug addict mom after his dad skipped out on them when he was 3 years old. He proceeded to party in his teen years leading to his own alcoholic and drug addictions. After being caught vandalizing homes and public parks and his mom being arrested and shoved into rehab, Derek's addiction became worse when he was 17 years old. The social worker on Derek's case ordered him to be sent to Wellthorne against his wishes and only having months left until his 18th birthday. He was ripped from his mom, and his anger problems became worse. He's almost unsafe for anyone to be around.

Derek is 5'11" and has a very thick body type that makes for his mean and harsh personality. His hair is long and curly, rather untamed and an ashy blonde color that compliments his dull blue eyes. His skin is dark due to his Korean decent from his father's side of the family and his Indian decent from his mom's side. He hates sports, although he chose to be around the horses as much as possible. In fact, he isn't found much place else after classes but at the library or stables. He normally keeps to himself. 

Ashley "Ash" (prefers to be called Ash)

18 years old

Ash doesn't know her last name due to her never meeting her true perents and her foster perents don't know either. She has had a hard life which made her do the things she did. She was caught stealing for her foster mother. Her foster mother wanted a necklace so bad but due to them being kinda poor she couldn't afford it. Realizing all they have done for her Ash deiced that the least she can do is get it for her. She got caught and was thankfully not taken to jail for it due to her foster perents telling the police they'll send her to Wellthorne Academy! 

Ash is the Gothic type and has black hair that covers her left eye. She has icy blue eyes and wears a lot of eyeliner and eye shadow. Ash is about 5"4 and is really thin. She has a nice body build that she usually hides under hoodies. Ash is a bit muscular more then what people would expect and is not afraid to defend herself. She will put you back in you place if you step out of line. She has a connection with animals more so with Pit Bulls. Ash never liked people!

Likes: Music(Alternate rock, emo bands and such), cars, the woods, the smell of pine trees, reading, explosives, and drawing(mainly wolves)!

Dislikes: People who judge her for being goth, when someone tells her to turn her music down, PEOPLE, being told she can't do something.

Katherine (Katie) Aldebrandi 

Sixteen Years Old

Born in the south of Italy, Katie, at five years was already mess.  A family paid for a surrogate to carry Katie, the surrogate then refused to give them Katie and refused to return their money, so she fled with Katie in tow, never settling down for the first five years of Katie's life. Just before she was caught, she tried to set their house on fire with both her and Katie inside in a last ditch attempt to keep her daughter with her forever resulting and Katie being horrible burnt. The family in mention, shortly dumped Katie into foster care, not only because she was already had no respect for the law, but also because she spoke no english and had serious trust problems. Katie then went through a series of foster homes, and all of the families really did try with Katie, but because of the whole runaway problem when she was younger, she could never seem to form connections to any of them, and would up and leave constantly. She developed an habit for shoplifting where ever she went, and at one point was charged with accusations of minor arson, but denied it all and due to lack of evidence, the charges were dropped. Katie, at eleven, was diagnosed with Epilipsy, and her foster family at the time bought her a trained seizure service dog, an italian cane corso called Blanca, in an effort to help. Katie left shortly after, taking Blanca with her and eveything was fine until she lost Blanca to animal control. She was then almost arrested for breaking and entering while trying to get her dog back, but her foster family explained her reasons why, and she was fined and charged with the punishment of going to a military camp, or going to Wellthorne. 

Katie is roughly 5'3, with long dark hair and bright hazel eyes. She's fairly pale, and has a small body shape. If she had put the effort in at school she easily could have gotten a sport scholarship to anywhere she wanted; and she's not stupid, her grades are pretty good. She just doesn't put in any effort at all, usually because she gets distracted but she would never admit it. She has lived on farms before, so she has ridden horses, but she hasn't really done anything more than jumping farm fences and high speed chases through forests. She likes riding, sports (volleyball, baseball, football) and animals.

Grace May Lewis is about 170 cm, making her about average in height for a 16 year old girl. You can make out a faint tan on her fair, olive skin, which is accompanied by her smooth strawberry blonde hair. Her eyes are quite large with a deep green iris.

Grace suffers from ADHD, OCD and Anxiety, so why her mum brought her to this school she has no idea. Grace is a complete nerd and weirdly enough, loves her homework. It does mean that she cannot sit down for longer than 10 minutes at a time, stands for nothing but perfect, only likes even numbers, and has to have everything done on time, otherwise she can't go to school for at least a week. Maybe that's why her pastel bedroom is so immaculate. Her teachers soon got tired of this and spoke to Grace's mum, who then sent her off to Wellthorne Academy. 

Horse riding is Grace's therapy so it makes sense that she is bringing her 15hh, 8 YO true black mare, Rosewood's Midnight Time, or Midnight, all the way from her parents farm to Wellthorne Academy. Grace loves dressage and competes at Fourth Level but is hoping to step up to Prix St Georges soon. Aside from horses, Grace loves the academics but doesn't care much for other sports or art.

I'll post my characters first posts asap, we are starting at the morning 7.30am dorm alarm and wake up call.

It's up to you if your character has just arrived or has been at Wellthorne for a while or not ;)

Dylan Olive Walker 

Age:18

Dylan was born in Virginia with her brother Daxx who she was close to. In the seventh grade Dylan was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes so her sugar often times gets low and she then got a service dog a black lab Titan who detects when her sugar gets too low. In the tenth grade her brother died from a car crash and she resulted in partying and her parents had no other option but to send her to the academy knowing watchful Titan was by herside. Overall Dylan is and sometimes breaks the rules if it’s a stupid one in her book but does her best to abide by the rules of the book.

Dylan is 5’8 and is pale skin toned and has black hair that’s straight. She wears jeans and most times in a plain red shirt and a necklace of her dog in it Titan. Titan wears a service dog best with patches like “No talk” “No touch” “Staring is rude” and “Stop do not pet” on his vest and on the side says Service dog.

Sam Gaines
Age: 20
Sam was born in Chicago, Illinois living with his single mother who tried her best to raise him. But Sam has a while side to him and tends to be a rule breaker and party type of guy. His mother tried her best to keep Sam on the right path in education but with his lately habits of partying and his grades slipping she finally decided it was time to send him to the academy to help steer him onto the right path again. 

Sam is 6’2 and has tan skin with brown hair that’s straight and tends to fall into his eyes so he flips it a lot. He has one tattoo he keeps hidden on the inside of his wrist that says “Stay Wild” then has a matching one on his index finger with his mom to form a heart that’s jagged and rough edges. But most times Sam is seen in a grey shirt with jeans and converses.

Hannah White

Hannah was born in Vermont, America, but is also part Spanish, although you cant hear it from the way she talks. She suffers from friendship issues, and sometimes anger issues, but only had one very close friend, that died of cancer. Ever since, she has not been able to make anymore friends, open up to anyone, and she has been very sad, or angry over time.  Her parents were seriously worried about her and sent her to the academy as a hope that the result will come in good. Hannah often breaks the rules, and enjoys being told off, but she has mood changes. She is 16

She has pitch black hair, blue eyes, and surprisingly tanned skin. She is quite pretty, but doesn't trust boys at all.

Joe Parlour

Markus was born in Florida, and  has lived there all his life. He often breaks rules, parties a lot and doesn't care about being told off. He has a lot of friends, but doesn't like girls that much. He can look down on alot of people, and be rude, but most of the time he just enjoys the attention. He never liked his parents at all, and doesn't listen to them.

Joe has sandy light blonde hair and pale blue eyes. He has pale skin. He often wears jeans and trainers.

Outlaw Blayton
 
Age: 17

Outlaw was born in the middle of nowhere, Alberta, Canada and has a thick northern accent that’s always present, despite her best efforts to hide it. She is fluent in all languages however. Both her mother and father where on the military, and she was often staying with family friends while they where deployed. When she was 10 they where both killed overseas, and she changed for the worse, becoming extremely bitter and withdrawn and trusts no one. She hardly says a word, never laughs, and was sent here cause the folks who took her in couldn’t control her anymore, she snuck out no matter what they did and vandalized things, was a minor thief, and hung out on the streets at night just to cause some sort of mischief. She likes almost no-one, and although she won’t throw the first punch in a fight, you can bet she’s gonna throw the last. Cares nothing at all for relationships and such, finds that stuff most disgusting. 

Tall at 6’2, she’s got long, dark blonde hair down to her waist, although she almost always keeps it tucked behind her shirt, ice blue eyes, and is tanned from spending all her time outside. Never wears anything but either western style shirts or loose t-shirts with dark blue jeans and a pair of worn out black cowboy boots. Has several scars from things, and loves all animals.
