Quarter Horse Racing (RP)

Kyle

Kyle walked through the barn, Doc ready to go and prancing behind Kyle's lead. He made his way to the ever so growing group of riders and their horses as they made their way onto the track. "Hello, Jack," Kyle pipped up as he walked up and gave a slight smile. He mounted Doc and slowly walked him onto the track to warm him up. Starting at a trot, Kyle had Doc stay on the inside railing watching the other rider's warming up as well.

Raven Pitts

Raven collected West's head and turned her, which slowed the speedy mare down. As the trotted over to the center of the track, she noticed Luke and Malachi. She turned the painted mare towards them, and waved in greeting. "How are you guys?" Raven asked, fixing her helmet, as the buckle had gotten caught on her shirt.

Sally turned to look at Raven. "Hey! Sorry I can't talk for longer, but I've gotta get this mare moving." With that she spurred her mare into a slow canter, slowly picking up the pace until it was a moderate gallop. At the end, Cheri was varely puffing. "Good girl!" Sally said with a pat. "What are we going to do next?" she asked.

"Hey!" Raven called to Sally once she had ran her mare. "Do you want to do a quick race with West and I?" The black mare, and the sound of her name, lifted her tail and did a circle around Cheri in a bouncy trot. Raven surpressed a giggle.

"Yeah sure!" Sally loved a good race and Cheri was rearing to go. "How about two laps? We can practice breaking out of the gate."

"Yeah!" Raven turned the mare towards into the gate. "You're on!!"

Camille

After meeting Sally, Camille double-checked Maggie and her tack. Maggie bobbed her head and whinnied playfully. Camille laughed and gave her a carrot, the mare's favorite treat. Ready to climb into the saddle, Camille turned to Jack. "Hey, mind giving me a leg up?" she asked.

Jack looked to Camille as she turned and spoke to him. With a small smile, he nodded and moved to strategically help her onto her horse. He then pat her on the knee as he went back to his spot. Putting his fingers to his lips, Jack blew a sharp whistle, quickly grabbing the attention of all the riders, and horses. "Alright! No more goofing off. We're getting today started." Jack stated as he stepped off the riser and walked across the track, snapping his fingers and pointing to where each horse and rider should stand along the invisible line. "Now, you're all somewhat experienced, so this shouldn't be too hard. First are warm ups. If you already did them, great! Do more. Never hurts." Jack gestured to the rest of the track as he explained the directions. "Walk a lap, trot two, lope one, gallop one, then gradually slow back down to two laps of cool down walking. And go!"

"Sorry, Sally. More warm ups..." Raven reigned West back to the start of the track. The black mare was itching to go faster as they started their walking lap. When the mare tried to bust into a lope at the end, Raven countered and tugged the reigns a little. "Eh eh. Almost there you little stink. " Soon they had finished their first lap and we're off on a flouncy trot around the track.

Sally smiled, " oh well". She followed the black mare speed walking as fast as she could.

Luke

Luke watched as the girls mucked around and almost started a race, but Jack put a quick end to it and made them all start on their warm ups. He got Sky's attention who was gladly getting to know Malachi's stallion and started her on her first lap. He didn't mind, it would get him used to the feel of the mare he rode, as this was his first time, and taking it easy and learning what was best way to make her do her best would be the first thing he should do.

Though he walked the mare on her first lap next to Malachi, who seemed to be pretty experienced, but what did he expect. Almost everyone here had more experience in racing then he. Though he was sure going to learn quick and hopefully race against the best of them.

"So," Malachi started, trying to start up a conversation with Luke as they rode their horses along. "How long have you been riding?" Malachi looked over at Luke as he waited for a response. The guy didn't look totally experienced, but he didn't look clueless either.

Meanwhile, Jack was watching as the riders plodded along the track. He attempted to get a read on each one, picking out the obvious experienced and inexperienced and running through his mind how he could help the ones who had more to learn. This would be exciting, he thought.

Sally felt the mare's mouth and clucked her forward. She was expecting more of a jump foward, but all of the mare's energy seemed to have left her. She sighed. Maybe a race was too much for Cheri, after all, it was the start of the season. Bit she had only just stated warmup. Could Cheri really be that unfit? She kept Cheri right behind Raven's mare, who was barely puffing. Shr bit the inside of her lip, puzzling over this. She almost didn't notice another horse coming up from behind.

Luke

Luke glanced over to Malachi, smiling as he responded. "I rode my first horse at 16, my parents are not so into horses as I am. Plus we didn't have the money to pay for riding lessons... Or anything really." He started before looking down to Sky and patting her neck lightly. "When I got my first job I started going to a racing stable where a trainer took me in and taught me to race. I was small enough and he said I had potential." Luke chuckled. He felt so lucky that the trainer took him and taught him. Though it didn't come by free, he still felt lucky. "What about you?"
