Strength options for Stats

#268825 Posted on 2023-05-02 15:56:13

Hey,

Just returned to EV and noticing that there is only one option for Speciality(Driving) to be used with Stats, just wondering if there is already a discussion on this and how it could be used in Combo with other Stats as the others are?

personally, I think we could replace Jumping and Dressage with Eventing, that way it covers cross country as well, this could be STR+INT? as both XC and SJ require strength to jump, and intelligence to judge strides, takeoffs, and landings. dressage needs strength because if your horse is weak in strength it will not have good impulsion, nor hind-end action to match the front in an extended trot or balance himself properly in a pirouette or piaffe. Then we could go from 6 disciplines to 5, leaving space for a new one to be added :D to gain the 6th discipline, we could add something like Polo, which might be SPD+AGI as we would then have SJ under Eveting, leaving that stat combo open for something else :3 Or really any other discipline not closely related to any current ones, so there's a whole lot to choose from x3 Polo was the only one I ould think of atm

it's been brought up and suggested before a few times, not sure if anything came out of it plus it isn't on the google doc either.

Honestly, I don't see any point in worrying about this. Breeding cross-discipline is not recommended as it can be harmful because it will make NSS higher.

I can understand why we need another discipline with Strength if cross-discipline is encouraged as it will allow some overlaps. But as I said, we don't do cross-discipline here so there's no reason to ensure that there are overlaps for all stats.

in the past i think one of the points made was that red apples are the least used treat along with yellow apples, from a seller's perspective they rarely sell while the others are always in demand. so another strength discipline would mean we'd have less red apples lying around uselessly. but i don't know, right now unless you work with the most popular breed/discipline combos (western quarters, dressage andys and so on) it's hard to find other players you can buy or breed horses from. so i worry extra disciplines would spread out the horse market even more. like Lucia said it makes more sense if cross-disciplines were a thing.

I agree, horses irl usually do more than one discipline, even if they might be somewhat similar, but idk how that would work with our current stat system :/

I can understand the red apple situation. I usually sell mine to the General Store if it isn't sold after being on the market for a while. It's rare, tho. From my understanding, the ability to sell back to General Store was one of the "new" features that weren't in the original game. Without the General store, I can understand why it was an issue back then. But now, it's not an issue.

I agree with ForgottenLand that we don't need more discipline. If we allow cross-discipline, I would love to have more discipline! Eventing, Spanish Walk, Harness Racing, and more. Another game I used to play allows players to assign primary and secondary disciplines. I really enjoyed being able to breed freely. It was useful because sometimes there weren't enough entries in one discipline so I just showed my horse in the secondary discipline for that day. Unfortunately, this game isn't designed for it. The game doesn't allow cross-discipline and we just don't have enough active players who actually played with their horses. Adding more discipline will only spread us even further out.
