(Updated) New Character Ref!

#25744 Posted on 2016-04-01 20:46:59

I have been working on a new reference for my real life horse, Jack. This is what I came up with:
Here is version 1:

Here is version two: (more red/ brown color)

Version 2 Link
How does the color look?
I am pretty happy with how he turned out. Would anybody be interested in characters or references in the future? Any critiques or comments I would love to hear!

He's very cute! I love the color, but it's a little bright to be natural.

Thanks for the feedback. When I look at the ref from my phone, it looks way to bright. But when I look at it from my laptop, it looks like an appropriate color. Not sure what the deal is, but there is a big difference.

Phones and laptops use different color maps and tints most of the time. I always have to check my stuff on my phone or iPad to make sure it doesnt look ridiculous after I make it on my laptop. I'm looking at it from my laptop now tho, and I agree it's a little bright! Needs more of a brown tone, not orange.

It will take a bit of time to change his color, but I will do it and re upload. I had no clue there was such a big difference.

Did you ask permission to use them?

This is what is in her rules.
If used off site please ask before hand. (I'm will allow use 99% of them time, I just want to know here they're being used)

Yes. I asked through NattyBug (top comment) and included a link.

I love it!!!
The only thing I'd like to suggest is to make the white an off-white (slight gray tone for example... Still looks white even though it's not pure white, if that makes sense). If pure white, it washes out the grayscale on recolors, and some people doing recolors use the color selection tool to select colors directly off the ref sheet (I'm one who does this), so I often end up with straight white taken off of refs that I have to modify to an off white myself. Having the white adjusted directly on the ref sheet would be nice, only for the sake of recolors :)

Looks fantastic.

Thank you! In real life his socks aren't ever that white lol. I will try that and update.

I would also like the point out and correct me if I'm wrong, there is no pink on his nose. It would make it seem a bit more realistic if you added a pink tone to the nose to give it more of a fleshy feeling where skin can be seen.
