"Pick a number between one and three," Kahlen said.

Auberon
"2.87342," Auberon replied, furrowing his brow in confusion.

Kahlen
"I love that you do that without question at this point. Yes, Baker Boy?"

Auberon
Auberon stared at the ground, thinking about that before rolling his eyes. "How many times do I have to ask you not to talk to yourself in French around me?"

"Ask someone who's been counting," she said with a shrug.

"Y'know, Denv-" Kahlen stopped herself before she could continue. "...He's probably been counting."

"Yeah, and he's probably doing perfectly fine right now," Auberon included.

Kahlen
"Right." He's fine. Just because he isn't right here doesn't mean he's done for.

Georgia finished and made her way back toward the door. She tilted her paper slightly so Em could read her locker number, her fingers covering her combination code so the others couldn't read it. Despite her disappointment, Em smiled at Georgia. "Maybe we'll get lockers beside each other for our senior year." Georgia shrugged. "Maybe. So far we don't have a good track record. I'm going to go see if any of the others are here yet. Maybe one of us will still be by somebody we know." Em nodded and watched her leave. Georgia was in locker 103. The girls had been requesting to have lockers next to each other for the past three years. For some reason the school didn't want to do that, and it seemed every year the space between their lockers increased. Em studied the tile beneath her feet. It was a bit scuffed from many years of being walked on. She doubted Tim would be there yet, he was always late. And other than him and Georgia and Louis [who went to the elementary school], she didn't have any other close friends, despite her many acquaintances. She liked it that way, because her friends were the people closest to her.

Kahlen speaks French? Oh boy, this'll be fun. "Personally, I find English less annoying than French, but that's just me," he replied, shrugging.

She pulled herself from her thoughts that had taken a detour from their original topic. Louis' trip to France could be planned later. And when her parents said he was old enough to go. Em glanced up at Mason (she hadn't heard his comment, having been thinking about where Louis would like to go most). "You need both locker information and your schedule?"

"Correct, though locker information isn't really necessary, since it's highly unlikely I'll be using it," Mase responded. He glanced down at the top of the girl's head. She was quite a bit shorter than him, though, despite her small size and petite features, which kind of made her come across as a meek and, well, petite person by nature, she had been putting up with him surprisingly well. Somehow, she'd managed to not get offended or annoyed yet. That's new.

"Okay. You'll need to tell the secretary your first and last name, phone number or email - whichever was put in during enrollment to receive the info - grade, and address if the phone number/email don't work." Em waved to the secretary, who normally worked the first day of school. Her name was Anne. Another acquaintance of hers. The school staff was under-appreciated a lot of times. Especially the janitor, Mr. Miller. He was a really sweet old man. Focus, Em.

He stepped up to the desk, resting his arms on it before he began. "Mason Wilkins, eleventh grade." He then told the lady his phone number - or, rather, the number belonging to the phone in the motel he'd been staying in for the past few weeks.
