 Marce strolled up to the door and faced Storm.
 "So? What are we doing?" she prompted. She realized that she hadn't changed clothes yet, but that wasn't really a surprise considering she'd spent all of her time in the cabin admiring the photos.

“Well Marce, first I will run River up to my house to phone someone. You can either come with or wait here, and once we have that done we’ll grab everyone and go meet the horses and dogs you’ll be paired with. Sound fine to you?”

 "Uh, I'm staying here. You two go ahead," she replied, turning around and walking back into her bedroom.
 Flopping down onto her bed, she let out a breath that she didn't know she had been holding. Surprisingly enough, Marc had never wanted a pet before. She barely had the ability to take care of herself, let alone another being. But the thought of it intrigued her. An animal would be another set of watchful eyes, and possibly a way to travel quicker. She shook her head. This isn't the streets. This is a ranch with pampered animals that would be pretty much useless to me if they were suppose to help me survive, the teen told herself.

“Alrighty. River, you ready?”

River

River nodded "yes I'm ready"she said 

“Let’s go” she said stepping of the porch and striding towards the house

River

River followed Storm in silence. She glanced at Storm. "Storm have you ever had some one who you loved dearly and would do anything for them but you have to leave when there dying?"She asked 

“Yes River, I have” Storm said quietly, sadness clouding her blue eyes. She reached the house and held open the door for River to go in. 

River nodded and took a deep shaky breath trying not to cry. Following her inside she went over to the phone and called her dad. Her dad answered but he didn't have long. "Dad its me River. I'm sorry I didn't say good bye. I tried so hard to come and see you. Dad I love you"She said tears running down her cheeks. Her dad smiled "I love you to River. I will always be with you"He said. Hearing the other end drop dead and beeping and shouting she hanged up and walked out crying and ran back to the cabin. She now hated this place. Because of this place she wasn't able to be there.

Storm let River go. She’d give her some time before getting her to come meet the animals. She understood. 

River wanted nothing to do with one. She laid on her bed crying. She cried till she fell asleep. It seemed like everything she done for her dad was now useless. She stole money to help pay for medical bills. She tagged buildings and take pictures of it and sell it. Now all of that has gone to waist. Because of coming to some stupid ranch

Storm glanced at the clock and headed out. It was time for the teens to meet their animals. She’d get Marce but leave River for last. She walked to the cabin the two shared and knocked on the door.

 Marce slid out of bed and peeked inside River's room.
 "Hey... you okay?" she asked, stepping inside and pulling the door closed behind her. "What did you come running back in here for? We gotta go meet the animals or whatever soon."

"What's the point anyway. Animals don't care about people. Nor do people care"She said and turned onto her side. "You would never understand anyway"She said

 "Alright, fine. Act like I grew up living a normal life. Everyone else does, anyway," Marceline snapped, slamming the bedroom door shut. Maybe I'm overreacting. She shook her head, narrowing her eyes. Regardless of if she was overreacting or not, she didn't like being treated like she didn't understand things. Maybe she couldn't relate to exactly what River was going through, but she refused to be treated like she was blissfully ignorant of everything.
