Grade Horse!

Say Hello to the Grade Horse!
We are proud to introduce to you the first in-game implementation of cross breeding! Say hello to the Grade Horse!

What’s a Grade Horse?
A Grade Horse is a horse that is not purebred, and has a mixed parentage that may consist of multiple breeds. For our purposes in-game, a Grade Horse is any horse that has parentage from breeds that are different from one another.

How does it look?
The Grade Horse will inherit a combination of genetics from its parents, so it contains all of the genetic possibilities of all of the breeds! It has unique art for the adult horse, and the foal shares the art in common with the Andalusian and Lippizaner breeds.

Additionally, the Grade Horse’s size will vary, depending on the size of its parents, and the art scales to reflect this! You could get a Grade Horse that's nearly the height of a Clydesdale or almost as small as a pony!

The Grade Horse can also wear all existing tack and decor items in-game, so they can be dressed up to look however you like!

How do I get one?
A Grade Horse can only originate through breeding two different breeds of horses together. The Grade Horse cannot be purchased from the Equine Center or created in the Custom Horse Creator - its exclusivity is part of its excitement!

Once you have a Grade Horse, you can breed it with any other breed or another Grade Horse to continue to produce more even more Grade Horses with more varied parentage!

What will its pedigree look like?
If you view the pedigree of a Grade Horse, you will see its family tree listed with its relatives' names, and you can now see the breeds of its family members too! All pedigrees have had the previously listed horse ID swapped out for the breed, so it is easier to track parentage for Grade Horses.

Can I turn off breeding for Grade Horses with my horses listed for brood and stud?
You can, if you would like to disable crossbreeding requests, there is a new setting under your Account Settings on your home page where you can choose to enable or disable crossbreeding requests.

Is it listed in the horse search?
Yes, the Grade Horse is considered a separate breed in the horse search, so simply select it from the dropdown to see results.

Can I use credit items on a Grade Horse?
Yes! Coat and marking applicators and randomizers and other credit items can still be used to make your Grade Horse look exactly how you like!

Can I listed Grade Horses for stud and brood like any other breed?
Indeed you can, you can offer Grade Horses for brood and stud just as you can with purebred horses in-game.

Can I view the possible looks for a Grade Horse?
Yes, you can visit the wardrobe from your inventory to check it out!

We hope you enjoy this new addition to our family of in-game horses! :)

Ooh, very cool! The art is neat, and I can see this being a very fun thing to play around with!

(I also hope that if this works well, that we may get to see "allowed crosses" such as quarter horses being crossable with paints and appys, producing "pure" paint or appy foals, respectively, the way some real-world registries work. But that's another thing entirely.)

I can't breed a grade horse for some reason. Not even with my own horses. But I can buy one and see all the grade foals in search. How can I fix it?

If you are struggling to breed grade horses then make sure you have crossbreeding enabled and you are scrolling down on the breed page, as pure breeding and crossbreeding functions are separated to save on dropdown clutter.

Curious. Can you breed a Grade back to a Purebred? As it would open up new opportunities.
