I'm confused.

Everyday I enter my horses in 10 trail rides which earns $347 each. Today they only earned $149. I know I set it for 10 hours so I'm confused as to what is going on.

It sounds like you might have been entering your horses in Private lessons, which give $300+ for 10 hours (minus 10%fee), instead of Trail Rides which give out $150+ for 10 hours (minus 10% fee). Could that have been possible? Each lesson type does have it's strength over the others.
I've just entered some horses in 10 hours of each option in a Riding School, in a school matching their discipline for bonuses to count, and I'll check exactly what comes out in an hour to see if there's any discrepancies.

Here are my results, italicized numbers are the amounts I actually received per my bank statements:
Trail Ride
+165 Member EXP
+$165 (-$16 fee) ($149)
+1 Strength
Sugar Cubes, Carrot, Turnip

Private Lesson
+110 Member EXP
+$330 (-$33 fee) ($297)
+1 Endurance
Yellow Apple

Group Lesson
+275 Member EXP
+$275 (-$27 fee) ($248)
+2 Endurance

I also noticed... Riding school fees seem to have been adjusted.

I mostly submit them for 10h of private lessons. Checked in my bank account and today they only got $297 per horse, which used to be $396.

Now that you've mentioned it, fees definitely have been adjusted. I used to make about $350/horse with trail riding for 10 hours. I haven't been paying super close attention to the amount I make per horse lately, so I didn't notice that either. Looking at my bank history, just yesterday I made the $300-$350 per horse (depending on if it was the right discipline) and today its lower.

So why was this changed?
I for one am not entirely happy with this.

*edited for thoughts*

I choose to place all my horses(at this moment) in riding schools. I have finished pulling all my horses out of trail riding and I have made back less than half than what I would normally make.

A few months back I could understand pulling back the % of treats found from 50 to 30(in trail riding). This I don't get, unless this is trying force us to put money vs finding treats/items.

Not trying to rant, but just irritated. I guess I now have to place half in private lessons and the rest in trail riding.

I wasn't aware it had changed. I've been doing group lessons for the EXP which I don't think have changed? or if they have I haven't noticed. I only use the riding school for a few horses though.
It does make sense though to parse down trail rides in money, you're getting more items to make up for it and it gives a definite scaling so you can tailor your preferences based on what you desire most.
Money: Private, Group, Trail
EXP: Group, Trail, Private
Items: Trail, Group/Private

I can't say why for sure though, that's just my personal thoughts.

But they didn't just change the fee for trail riding, Sabriel.
All three of them went down in money. Private lessons went down from $40/hr to $30/hr.
And yes, putting nearly 100 horses in riding school, it is quite the difference.

Hi everyone.

I'm very sorry for making the update without notifying you - I was planning on including it in the next news post.

As the riding school is essentially free, it's free money that is being pumped into the game, while it gives SO much money it is also a feature that discourages use of shows. While it's very helpful for those horses who don't do well in shows, it was extremely unbalanced and members with hundreds of horses could just enter in riding schools and make hundreds of thousands per day, guaranteed, along with stats and items.

While this is my own fault for coding it that way in the first place and I will take the blame for setting it up badly, I hope you can understand my decision for changing it. I am trying to make things fair and balanced, and also encourage proper usage of shows. Riding schools were only ever meant to be a backup if you had horses that were consistently failing in shows, not a main source of income.

I understand many of you will not be happy with this decision, but.. you still get money for free. It's just not as much. :)

tl;dr I math bad.

Thanks for explaining, Abbey. I'm glad that the reason was to encourage the use of shows, as I think that's definitely something the game needs.

Hmm... I've never even considered not showing my horses. I always just felt that showing them was sort of the point of trying to raise good herds. I'm for anything that encourages players to show their horses - even if it means I'd lose money.

I understand your reasoning. No problem there, just don't have time to show all my horses so riding schools were and are the best thing for me time wise. I really don't plan to show at this time.

But I guess it is something I will have to adjust and tweak around with planning wise with riding schools.

Looks like I'm going to have to rethink my game. I've never had good luck with showing so I end up loosing more money than I make on it.
