Breeding...

#52298 Posted on 2016-07-11 11:00:41

I have a few questions about breeding and also looking for people's thoughts

1) When is the last breeding age?
2) If getting 2 foals from one breeding pair, at what age do you breed for your first foal and second foal?

I'm too eager to breed and want to breed my first lot when my group 1 tbs get to 12 XD Is this WAY to early or is it more of a personal opinion thing?

The last opportunity to breed a horse is the day before they turn 21. I breed my horses on the last day possible as, although like you I'm desperate for foals, it gives your horses the more stat gain. A lot if people do not like it if you breed your horse (s) under the age of 15 for the reasons I stated above.
Hope this helps! =)

For highest stat gain, you would want to breed the day before the horse turns 21. For two foals with the highest possible stat gain, you would breed the first time the day before it turns 20, and the second the day before it turns 21. (A mare's gestation time is five days, and then it takes two more before it is ready to breed again, coming to a total of seven days minimum between breedings.

However, you can breed your horse any time you like after it turns 3. It is entirely up to you. The only known benefit to waiting until the last minute is to increase stats. If you are not breeding for stats, there is no reason to wait. There are plenty of valid reasons why you may choose not to breed for stats, especially since we now have riding schools, so even low-stat horses can earn money. There is a lot of prestige in having high-stat horses, but it is far from the only way to play the game.

Breed your horse whenever you want, as long as it is after the horse is 3, and before it turns 21.

Confessor says it very nicely xD and is totally right! breeding it a matter of personal preference!
I like to breed my horses at about 20 years so I don't forget later in the week and have them retire on me, but I used to breed at 18 so I had three weeks while the foals were growing to continue making money on my horses, that's less of a concern for me on my main account since my breeding schedules are all over the place and I always have horses making money xD On my second spare I still breed at 18 though because the line is small and all on the same schedule, so I'd have three weeks worth of boring waiting for them to grow up!
I think 16 is optimum for a first breeding personally if you're planning to do more than one. But 12 wouldn't hurt either. I know I start my Studs in the stud program on open stud at 8 years old so long as they have over 300, preferably 350 stats! Some people probably think that's much too young, but if they meet standards I don't see why others can't have the benefit!

Huh. That's odd, my 20yo mare is definitely not on the drop down menu for breeding (wasn't gonna breed, just wanted to see if she still could at 20 - ages in 6 days). O.O

Edited to add: This was more for me to remember/cement a mental note to check on my next eldest mare when she hits 20 to see if she can breed.

Ducky if it's this mare: RS Going Good 54.88|d (#432890) It says she was last bred three days ago, therefore she'd be unable to breed since you can only breed mares once every 7 days.
