There has always been two herds, a strong herd of stallions, and a larger, weaker herd of mares. And every year the two herds come together to reproduce for the two herds to continue to grow and stay full of horses.

Everyone was happy, and there was no worry about hearts being broken or feelings being hurt, because every mate was chosen purely to create a good, strong foal.

No one ever had a problem with this system, for a long time. But as time went on, things changed.

After a while, the mares started to rebel, and no longer want to produce foals for the stallions, so they have began moving away, unbeknownst that the stallions had been following them.

One night while the mares were all sleeping, the stallions caged them all in an old, abandon barn.

Then the next morning, the mares were to be auctioned off to the stallions, and each mare had to produce that stallion's foal.

Now, this capturing and caging of the mares is tradition. And it is that time again this year, for each mare to be auctioned off to a stallion.

The mares have started to rebel again, recently though. They started becoming restless, and no longer want to be caged and sold.

But that didn't change a thing, and the Alpha Stallion is persistent on caging the mares.

Herd Rules
⟹ Alpha Stallion doesn't have to "bid", he get's mare of his choosing when it is her turn to be auctioned off.
⟹ Beta Stallion doesn't have to "bid", he get's mare of his choosing when it is her turn to be auctioned off, so long as Alpha Stallion doesn't want the same mare. Alpha Stallion's wants overrule that of Beta Stallion.
⟹ Unless the stallion who won her lets her go for the next year, then the mare must produce a foal for the stallion who won her, and may not escape.
⟹ Every stallion must bid at least on one mare, though if he choses to set her free or use her is up to him
⟹ A stallion may have a maximum of three mares.
⟹ When foals are born, they stay with their mother until they are weaned, after which they join the proper herd. Colts join the Stallions, and Fillies join the Mares.
⟹ Alpha Stallion's word is law, after that, Beta Stallion's. If a mare births her foal before everyone else, she is free to do as she wishes when her foal is matured, meaning she may run free with any, if there was any, released mares.
⟹ Stallions may not physically abuse their mare(s), though may punish her if need be. If he is found hurting her without or outside of reason, he shall be exiled depending on severity of the situation.

Bidding Lingo
Horses don't actually "bid", but more so fight. If a stallion wants a mare, he says he claims her. If some other stallion wants her, then he claims a challenge, and they fight. If multiple stallions want a mare, they all fight at once. It is not a fight to the death, and no stallion needs to be fatally injured. Once the Alpha or Beta declares the winner, the fight is over and the next mare is brought up. Alpha and Betas do not have to fight.

Rules
➔ Please please please be literate and detailed. 3+ sentences per character per post. You will received one warning, before you will be kicked from the roleplay.
a. While I expect everyone to be detailed, descriptive, literate, etc, I don't want to read about gore and everything. That is unneeded.
➔ Please be active. I understand we all have lifes, and aren't roleplay robots who sit at a computer all day, but please try to post at least once a day, and if you know you won't be online to post for a few days, please forewarn me.
a. If you are gone for a long period of time without an explanation you will be kicked.
➔ I love original, unique characters that are unlike anyone else's. I understand there is lots of people who think similarly when it comes to creating characters, I have encountered that problem before, but I dont want a bunch of Jane Does and Billy Bobs running around in the roleplay.
➔ Please play your characters an even amount. You don't have to post all of your characters in each of your replies, but don't put one of them in every single one, and post most of your others once a page.

Starting Scene
Each mare is in an individual stall in the abandon barn. No mare can get out of her secured stall. Stallions are being led into the barn by Beta. Alpha is already there. Stallions will be given some time to talk to and meet the mares before the auction begins.

|| Apollyon ||

He had already let out a sharp whinny to the stallions of the herd, calling them to gather around the closed doors of the barn where they would wait to be let in. He shuffled his fronts hooves, mostly out of boredom, though he was never one of the most patient horses the herd had seen. In the eyes of the few stallions who had already gathered he could see their own impatience. That, and the lust they had to get to see which mares they would rip themselves apart over this year. Greedy swines, half of them were. Couldn't wait even a few minutes to get to their precious toys.

A stamp of a hoof on the concrete outside of the barn sent a dull but firm sound out to those were taking their sweet time getting over, speeding them up. Apollo looked over the heads of those gathered, searching for anyone who had either not heard him or not listened. He didn't see anyone, and didn't particularly care if they weren't there. It would be their own fault if they got stuck with a mare they didn't know. Or multiples mares, for that matter. "Keep your voices down." Apollo said simply, not feeling like giving a whole speech on proper behavior at the moment. If things got out of hand, he would be there to aid his lead and quell any tensions.

Opening the door, Apollo walked in, leading the anxious group behind him. He stopped in the middle of the entrance, letting the stallions fan passed him. Being the Beta had more than one privilege, and one such privilege was being able to choose whatever mare he desired-- assuming the Alpha didn't want her. Apollyon was good about avoiding the mares the Alpha spoke to, not wanting to get his hopes set on one he could not have.

Asteria pranced to her stall's door, sticking her head out for a moment and looking for her brother, Ramone. Her curly forelock fell over her eye, causing almost an immediate reaction to flip her head. My eyes searched the stallions walking into the barn, hoping maybe I would be able to see my brother. In the corner of her eye she saw some other mares (doesn't have to be anyone's mares but random mares), sticking their heads out of the stall. She remembered her mother telling her a story about when she was auctioned off, and how she was 'sold' to her father.

|| Nekros ||

The tall white stallion snorted as he walked back into the abandon barn. Today was a big day for the herd, one of his favorite days. And yet, he was unhappy. His half sibling, one that he had raised and the only person that he truly cared for immensely, Ryaki, was now old enough to go into the Auctions. And he could not stop any stallion from choosing her. He sighed as he looked at all the mares. Many of them beautiful, some of those had terrible personalities that spoiled their good looks, not that Kros himself was much different, in terms of personality.
He walked to the end of the barn, then back to the entrance, looking out, waiting for his Beta, Apollo, and the rest of the herd to arrive. It shouldn't be much longer, he told himself silently as he thought about which mare to make his. Should he go with young, or experienced? Looks or personality?
His thoughts were soon cut short by Apollo and the other seven stallions walking in. He let out a stiff neigh, warning them off the mares. "No one is to take a step towards those mares yet. Apollo and I still need to scan them and make sure every one of them is fit and healthy for this Auction." He called out over them, trying to find his Beta to make sure he was paying attention.

|| Forada ||

The scarred mare stuck her somewhat thick neck out of the stall, baring her teeth as the stallions walked in. The once beautiful mare was a bitter one, and didn't bother hiding it. She wasn't going to try and seduce some youngster, no point in that, it would probably only get her hurt. Then again, she had only been with the herd for a short time, and had yet to learn about most of them, let alone what they were looking for in a mare. Not that the silver and dark grey mare cared much, she cared very little for her herdmates and their thoughts and feelings. Whether they be about her or not.

|| Ryaki ||

The young off-white and black mare shook out her mane as she saw the stallions come in. She couldn't help but notice Baez. He was older than her, about the age of her brother, but she couldn't deny she had a special spot in her heart for the stallion. He was just so kind and sweet. But still a stallion who was only in the herd for the mares, as Kros had told her. He often tried to get her to think worse of Baez, and the stallions of the herd in general, though why, she didn't know.
She sighed contently as she watched the stallions, wondering who would chose her, or if they would fight over her. She didn't want anyone fighting over her.

Regan

Regan stomped her hooves in the enclosed area. The steel bars between the stalls not only prevented them from reaching other mares but gave off a cold hard feel. She hated the little stalls they were stuffed into. She had been lucky enough the past year to be spared and set free. But this year the was brought in without a choice. The noise of the stallion rang out as she knew it was about to start. As the stallions entered the pinned her ears at them as if daring them to come to her. S

She liked to play games and tease some of the younger stallions. Though she wanted nothing to do with them she still thought she would enjoy the event, i mean who dosent want to see stallions rip themselves apart over a mare. She was definitely a witty one and was smart enough to fake out a stallion and mess with there minds. she paced and pawed in her stall impatiently waiting for the lead stallion to release,do or say something.

Tigamas

Tigamas heard the call as he broke into a trot towards the beta. once they were led in the barn Tigamas felt a since of nervousness rush over his body. He was a very impatient stallion and was know to be very greedy. He was never mean to his mares but more so didnt care about them. He searched the barn eyeing all the pretty mares but making sure to stay along with the group until beta dismissed the stallions.

Baez
The tall, muscular stallion lingered behind the large gathering of stallions; patiently waiting for his turn. Understanding, more so than the other males, how the Auctions worked, he knew that it would be some time before he got to greet the mares. Really, he found no excitement in the events. Content with his two daughters, knowing that they would continue his bloodlines, he no longer deeply yearned for a foal. But somewhere, deep inside his heart, he still desired for a colt and perhaps, a mare he could develop a real relationship with.

He glanced around, the barn's entrance blocked by some excited youngsters. Their high pitched voices drifted over to him, the content of the conversation rather filled with nerves and longing. But the true meaning, sounding, of the males' words were lost on him. Instead, his gaze and mind was focused on finding his daughters; hoping that the stallions that claimed them would be atleast gentle. But then, his eyes were distracted, drawn to certain young mare; Ryaki. He remembered her sweetness, his heart aching. He had the same wish for his daughters as he did for her; that a kind stallion would pick her. More specifically, he hoped that stallion would be himself.

Sancha
Sancha was almost relaxed, besides her worrying mind, as she stood in her stall. Confidently holding her head up, her gentle eyes flickered around; only landing on each stallion for a brief moment. Lingering on the Alpha and Beta, she gazed at them for a moment longer, a soft expression on her face. Underneath her calm exterior, her mind was turning. She was worried about her sister, knowing that her attitude was sometimes hard to handle and feared that a stallion would punish her for her childish, carefree behavior. Trying not to overthink, she focused on the current events and the ones that were ahead, ones that would happen after the Auction ended.

Isolda
Isolda took a step closer to the stall door, hanging her head over it. A bundle of nerves were pulsing within her, both excitement and apprehension. Her eyes glittered with friendliness, with hopefulness. Remembering the words Sancha spoke to her, about how she should behave and handle the conversations the would occur between herself and the stallions, she tried her hardest to remain collected. A nervous snort escaped her muzzle, her forelock falling before her eyes. She tossed her head, her long beautiful mane went flying, and she paced around her small enclosure once before standing behind the stall door again.

|| Apollyon ||

As soon as Nekros called for his Beta, Apollo began to walk forward, a path being cleared through the small group of stallions so he could make his way to the Alpha. Giving a silent nod and a slight dip of his head, Apollo took one side of the barn, peeking in at each mare without uttering a word to them. Each one was a new specimen to be examined, and it gave him a chance to decide which mares he wished to speak to first. Or perhaps he would simply watch and take the popular mares many stallions wanted simply to irk them. A fun game, this was. A game the Beta couldn't possibly lose.

The first stall he came to was Isolda's. By the way she seemed to prance around the stall it was evident nothing was wrong with her, and so he moved on to the next stall, continuing down the line. He stopped a little longer at Regan's stall than the others, giving the defiant mare a cold look as if warning her to speak out. Apollo was not known to be a gentle stallion, but he knew better than to punish a mare that he had not yet claimed or that was not yet his own. Continuing on, he reached the end of his side with no clear ailments, though neither he nor Nekros could tell the state of mind any of the mares were in. No doubt a few of them were crazy from being locked up for so long. They were malnourished in this condition; underfed with dusty coats and weak muscles that would not possibly hold up against a strong and fit stallion. After a few weeks they would regain some beauty to them, but for now they remained lifeless and dull in appearance.

"This side is good, Alpha." Apollo reported, taking a few steps toward the center of the barn and turning his neck to look at Necros. "Underfed and weak, naturally, but none in serious condition."

|| Sailor ||

Silently Sailor stood among the rest of the stallions, a look of indifference across his features. He was not as excited about this whole ordeal as, say, Tigamas was, but he was not bored to death, either. He rather looked forward to having some company this season, though he would have to be sure to pick decent mares who were not fighters; those were not the kinds he enjoyed being around. Being a peace-oriented stallion himself, he was not open to the idea of hurting a mare, or fighting over one, for that matter. It would take an awfully pretty mare to get him to willingly battle another stallion for rights to her, and even then he would likely back down. Sailor was no coward, but it was blood shed that did not need to be. It created disputes among the stallions when they should be forming bonds.

|| Amour ||

Amour had been asleep in her stall for most of the morning, even while Nekros roamed about. It wasn't until the creaking of barn doors and stallion hooves started that she woke up suddenly, startled by the loud noise against the calmness of the barn. Allowing her eyes a few moments to adjust to the new wave of light that entered the barn, Amour stuck her head out of the stall and looked around curiously, ears pricked. Soon, though, she went into the back of her stall where it was quieter and shut her eyes.

|| Juliet ||

Eager eyes lit up as the stallions entered. The auctions were a mysterious phenomenon to her, mostly unknown and untold to her by her parents, who wished for her to keep her innocence for as long as possible. Eventually she had discovered via a playmate what exactly happened, and it had both terrified and thrilled her. Stallions fighting over her? Who wouldn't be flattered? But there were stallions to look out for-- stallions like Nekros and Apollo.

|| Lacey ||

Was it really necessary to start all of this so early in the morning? She hadn't even had time to groom her fur to it's supreme glossiness! No one should ever see her in this state! Immediately, the alabaster mare set to smoothing down her coat, licking out little clumps of dirt that clung to her side worse than a burr. If she hurried, she might look presentable before the stallions were allowed to view the mares.

||Lost ||

Wide brown eyes stared out of a stall, focused almost unblinkingly on Nekros and Apollo as they scanned the mare. As one of the two stallions passed her stall, she shied away quickly, averting her gaze to the floor and squeezing them shut. Her ears pinned back, but as soon as the shadow that loomed over her disappeared she was back to watching with her renowned stare. She was an odd mare, as more than one stallion was aware of. They whispered about her, both in pity and disgust. What had happened to the gray mare to make her so strange?

Regan

Regan felt like grinding her teeth together at the moment. the thought crossed her mind but then dissipated when the beta came to her stall. his stare was so strait forward, she could tell right off the bat that he was a strict keeper of his mares. Her big blue eyes followed his letting off the slightest glare. she wasnt crazy nore was she a shy and keep to herself kind of mare. She was more on the feisty and fierce side of mares. Her confidence kept her contained, it was like her walls.

she scanned all stallions spotting her cousin Tigamas that she had not seen in a very long time. she gave a grin seeing as he had grown to be such a large and healthy stallion, he would definitely get the looks of all the mares.

Tigamas

Tigamas spotted Regan and had totally forgot she was to participate in the auction this year. he quickly broke his stare and returned his attention to the beta and lead stallions. More than anything he had wanted to get this stupid thing on the road. he didnt eye any particular mare, a young mare by the name of juliet ,he had seen her once before. She was very pretty indeed but he broke his gaze as he listened. until he eyed one excitement filled his system as he looked around waiting for the alfa stallion to release them to talk amongst themselves and the mares.

Takoda

The large liver chestnut stallion followed slowly after the others. He was one of the oldest among them and has now quite a few foals. Though because he is still in his prime and one of the good breeds, he was constantly pressured into continuing this. When he was younger, he could admit that he looked forward to this, to continue his line and get any mare he wanted with something as simple as a fight, no need to flirt with them or try to make them come to him. It was easy. But now, after years of going through this, he has gotten tired of it. So he wasn't really in any fight to get the best mare, meaning he would most likely get the last chosen with his laid back attitude as of now.

Jaqualis

The dark bay mare stood in her stall with a glum look, she used to be able to get out of this before they caught the mares. But this time she got caught and is now stuck here, doomed to be breed by some stallion that could care less about her. The only good thing going with this is that she had low fertility, it was harder for her to get pregnant. And Jaqualis would laugh long and hard when the stallion that gets her can't get her pregnant. She thinks it would be hilarious, though she doubt this would happen and she would get pregnant sooner or later. She still would get in a laugh before that happens.

When the stallions finally arrived, she didn't bother to look out her stall. She just stayed inside to mope. Wondering if there was a way out of this, she half wondered if she could fight for her freedom, before scoffing at how stupid that sounded. So she opted for just staying quet and let the stallions do as they please.

//Sakura//

A pure coal black mare rested in the back of her stall her eyes closed as her body twitched occasionally. Waking up with a jolt she stood up her black legs shaking from the horrible dream. Finding her bearings she moved to the stall door and swung her head over as the barn door opened. Pricking her ears with curiosity she looked at the door as it opened at stallions were outside. Giving her head a shake that tussled her mane and forelock so it covered her white star on her forehead she pinned her ears. In a swift motion she was in the back of her stall.

//Borak//

The dark chestnut stallion followed after the others ears pricked and head high with happiness. Borak gave his head a shake that shook his cream mane and forelock as he thought of a mare he could fight for. Thinking of his previous mare that died giving birth along with the foal he shook his head again clearing his mind. The tall muscled stallion followed after the rest as they reached the barn. Stopping he gave his full attention to the Alpha and Betta.

|| Nekros ||

His white coat was tight against his muscles as he walked stiffly, examining each of the mares that Apollo did not. The last mare to examine was Ryaki. He so badly wanted to say she was hurt, that she was unable to produce a foal. But he knew how excited to be a mother and happy to be able to help the herd now she was. He didn't want to take that away from her.

He nodded with a snort, walking back to the stallions. "Every mare is in fine...physical state for this. So, stallions, you may go and speak to the mares. There is to be no physical contact with any mares." He said, though he did not wait for them to move, as he began walking towards some mares.

His eyes fell upon a specific mare, one so much like his sister; Juliet. He almost felt the need to protect her, but then again he didn't want to be the stallion to spoil her innocents. He shook his head. This wasn't him, a kind, caring, protective stallion.
He turned his gaze towards a mare that would be more...worthy of his rank. Regan, she was pretty.

He shook his head. He would wait and see which mare was most popularity of the stallions. He would make that mare his. He knew that would somewhat anger Apollyon as well, causing him to smirk. He liked his Beta, they were as close to friends as Kros would allow himself to have. But he still found slight pleasure in seeing others mad at him but unable to disrespect him without a terrible back lashing.

|| Nero ||

The young, bulky palomino stud heard very little of what Alpha and Beta had said before he was able to see the mares. He wanted a somewhat experienced mare, as this was his first time participating, and so he wanted someone who was young, but she still knew what to do.

His eyes fell upon a mare he had known for a short while, Sancha. She was a few months older than he, he knew she had participated in the last one, but had not birthed a foal. He walked to her stall, looking her over with a somewhat gentle smile. But it was hard to appear soft and kind when you are big and bulky, but not really tall, as is Nero.

"Sancha, is it? We haven't really met outside of this formally, so um...I-I'm Nero. How are you doing? I mean, I guess this is pretty terrible for you, and you're probably pretty hungry. But um..other than that, how are you doing?" He was obviously nervous, and didn't know what to talk about. He didn't want to ask offensive questions, but he wanted to get to know her, her personality, what she liked, if she was the right one for him.

|| Ryaki ||

The young, dainty mare wasn't paying attention much to anything around her. Until she felt eyes on her, and turned to see Baez watching her. Sh offered a smile, but was interrupted by Nekros looking into her stall. She ignored him, as he pulled away and began speaking to the stallions again.

She watched as Nekros told the stallions they could now visit the mares, but no physical contact. She saw stallions begin moving. She hoped someone kind and gentle would befall most mares, even if it meant herself getting a terrible stallion. Most of these mares deserved better than what they got, though some didn't.

Stretching her neck, she shook out her long, wavy black mane, smiling at every passing stallion, even though they didn't stop at her stall. I'm so excited for the auction to begin! But...I'm so nervous..there is three extra mares, so I might get lucky and get a stallion with two mares already who doesn't want much to do with me... She thought hopefully. While she wanted to provide a good foal for the herd, she was young, and didn't know how her body would handle a foal, she was so small and dainty.

Baez
Once the Alpha gave the okay, the crowd moved forward. Still in the back, Baez took his time. His eyes gazing around as he strolled pasted some stalls, one destination in mind. In the corner of his eyes, he saw black wavy hair strands being shook out. Without much thought, his hooves moved him forward, being pulled to the source. Ryaki. He approached the mare, a gentle smile resting on his facial features. Stopping before her stall, he rose his head, looking her in the eyes.

"Hello, Ryaki." His voice was soft, his words kind and gentle. "How are you? Nervous? Maybe, excited?" Remembering how he felt at his first auction, Baez watched the mare with warm eyes; she certainly was a beauty, with her contrast of black and white. But it was not just her appearance that drew him in, but her personality. Kind and gentle, she was a true sweetheart in his eyes.

But he made sure to keep some distance between them, keeping the no touch rule in mind. With her head hanging over the door, he stood a couple feet away; having to suppress the urge to gently touch her muzzle with his. A warm gust of air escaped through his nostrils, his forelock resting against his head. He worried that another stallion would gain interest in the young, beautiful mare and also want to claim her.

Sancha
Sancha perked her eyes forward when a stocky stallion approached her stall. He appeared to be nervous, or unsure about himself, as he greeted her. His words were kind, but quick. A gentle smile appeared on her face. "It's nice to meet you, Nero." Her reply was soft and kind, and she took a step closer to the stall door, to get a better look at him.

The stallion before her was muscular, which was obvious due to the ripples under his skin, but not very tall; he seemed to be an inch or so taller than herself. His palomino coat was shiny and handsome. But most importantly, he seemed to be a kind.

"I'm fine, thank you for asking. And yourself, how are you?" She responded kindly, growing to like the stallion's company. Nero, while perhaps inexperienced, would be fine stallion and she realized that, maybe, she would not mind if he was the one to claim her. Of course, she did have the goal of one day becoming Beta or Alpha mare, but that could always wait another year.

Isolda
Isolda was impatiently standing in her stall; being cooped up for so long was not settling well with her. On top of that, she was hungry, her stomach reminding her of such a fact as it softly growled. Her tail flicked, annoyed, as she watched the stallions just walk right past her. A growing fear seized her; what if none of the stallions wanted her? She dismissed the thought with a toss of her head, her mane going everywhere before gently resting against her neck again.

The advice of her sister rung through her head, but she ignored it as she pranced around her stall. Feeling so energized, not being able to stay still, she wished for the open land and the ability to run around; to feel free even though she was not. Her arched neck was prominent as she pulled her head close, snorting and pawing at the ground.

|| Apollyon ||

For a while Apollo stayed still, watching the stallions rush forward to certain mares or hesitate as they debated who was worthy of their attention. This selection contained many beautiful mares, some full of vigor and energy, others with a more calm disposition. He wasn't sure which kind of mare he would like best, though there was by no means a small selection.

Finally Apollo moved, not with a particular mare in mind. The first mare he had gazed upon while checking them over was Isolda, and so he would speak to her first. Stopping before her stall, Apollo pricked his ears and raised his head, looking in on her.

"Isolda." He greeted with a barely visible nod, eyes calculative as he studied the mare. Fine looking, that was certain. But did she have the personality traits he was seeking?

Slowly, Sailor made a beeline for the stall containing Jaqualis. He wasn't sure why she had evoked his interest, though he had plenty of time to get around all of the mares he wished to get to. "Hello." He greeted softly, shifting his hooves uncomfortably. What was he supposed to say now? Asking her how she was seemed like a question just asking for a snarky answer, and he didn't dare go down that route. "Jaqualis, correct? Unique name." Great, this was going so well. Sailr wasn't used to socializing!

(If anything is disagreeable to you Khyas since Lost is yours, I can change my reply and get Ramone to go to his sister. Just let me know. c: )

Ramone:

Ramone began walking through the barn, a little behind all the other stallions but not by far. Once Nekros told us that we could go speak to the mares, but no physical contact I immediately thought of my sister. I searched the stalls with my eyes, seeing no sign of Asteria, yet. He decided to simply walk alongside the stalls until he reached his sister, when he saw a mare. The first thing he noticed was her demeanor, it seemed possibly scared, shy or possibly even crazy. But yet somehow he wanted to go try to talk to the mare. Quietly he walked up to her, making sure she could hear his hooves as he walked so she'd be aware of his presence. "Hello." he spoke to her, being careful his voice was calm and nice.

(You're fine! @Enchanted. ^.^ )

|| Lost ||

Just a few months ago Lost had been found and captured. She was not born and raised with these customs which were still too familiar to her. Yes, she had been in something similar before, but such memories were to be put aside and forgotten about. Those memories were the reason physical scars littered her once beautiful coat, and mental scars covered her brain. And so, when a stallion actually approached her, she jumped back fearfully, eyes wide and breath quickening. Memories came back, but she forced herself to push them away. It was the past. It was over. This place was heaven compared to where she came from.

"Hi." Lost managed to choke out, taking a few hesitant steps back forward, a mixture of curiosity and fear in her eyes. He wasn't going to hurt her, was he?
