Unprepared (RP)

Kali
She grumbled under her breath as she read the slip of paper. “Chance” she replied, slowly getting to her feet and walking to the front. 

Jasper
He watched the first girl go up. He was not able to see her face clearly under her low slung cowboy hat but her voice held a rough tone to it. 

Annabel
She exhaled slowly, relieved she hadn't been called on first to pick a name. She watched as the girl read the name and walked to the front. Even the thought of doing it made her nervous, and Bella swiped her palms down her jeans. Why am I doing this? 

Chance
He blinked, a little surprised to hear his name read first. Chance was unsure what he was supposed to do at this point. He looked at the girl he was going to spend the next couple months with. She was tall - taller than him by an inch or so, maybe more - with a style reminiscent of the Old West. Her hat threw her face into shadow, so he wasn't able to make it out very well. Chance glanced at the teacher, hoping for some instruction. 

Mr. Joats

“Chance, please come foreward and both of you walk to the front of the building with your luggage and get a seat together on the big white bus, your house number is 208 and here’s the key. The mother who’s giving the baby will be at the house and tell you info on the baby.” Turning to the guy in the back and pointing to Jasper “Read your match aloud and come to the front.”  Stepping back and opening the door for the other two. 

Chance
He nodded and stood from his seat, pulling his bag from the corner and hanging it from one shoulder. A few steps brought him to the front, and he shot Kali a smile before exiting the room. He grabbed the handle of his suitcase and tugged it along behind him. The sound of the wheels echoed slightly in the hallway as Chance walked toward the door of the building. He pushed it open and stepped out of the way, holding the door open for the tall girl.

Annabel
She swallowed nervously. She wasn't sure who she wanted to be paired with - was "nobody" an acceptable answer? - but she did know she didn't like this slow, agonizing method. It just made her nerves worsen the longer it went on. 

Kali
She grabbed her tuffle bag and followed Chance, first taking the key from the teacher. Her boots thudded solidly on the hard floor as she walked behind him. Welp, here went nothing. 

Jasper
He watched them leave, the sound of the girl’s boots chilling him slightly. “Alyce” he said as he went to the front with his bags. 

Annabel
The mixture of relief that it wasn't her and trepidation because it eventually would be her was an interesting combination. Bella decided it was ridiculous stressing about this, but then cast that decision aside because of course it was logical. She was about to spend months with a guy she didn't know and raise a baby. That's a good reason to worry. 

Chance
He let the door come to a close behind her and stepped quickly to catch up. In one hand was the handle to his suitcase, on his shoulder was his backpack, and in the other hand was his guitar case. "What's your name?" he asked cheerfully. They approached the bus and he allowed her to enter first so she could pick a seat. It didn't matter to him where they sat. 

Kali
She nodded thanks to him and entered with her duffel bag and also a guitar case. She found a seat in the way back then replied. “Kali.”

Chance
Chance nodded, following Kali to the back. He sank into the bus seat next to her and eyed her guitar case. "How long have you played guitar for?" He settled his own guitar case at his feet, putting his suitcase and backpack behind the seat. He wondered absently how they expected everyone's luggage to fit in here. Not everyone had that little space to put their stuff. 

Kali
“Couple years, you?” She replied. Little did they know she also had her banjo tucked into that case. She’d made the black leather case herself and had made it that she could fit both her guitar and banjo in it without it looking like it help two instruments. 

Chance
"I started playing when I was eleven, so... eight years now? Yeah, eight." Wow, that's a lot. I didn't realize it had been so long. Chance made sure the guitar case was securely closed and then laid it down as gently as he could. Hopefully it wouldn't be jarred too much during the ride. He knew the case would keep his guitar safe, but he was always overly cautious when it came to the instrument. It meant a lot to him, had seen him through some rough times. 

Kali
She gave a nod. She looked out the window boredly. She still didn’t know why in the world she was doing this, but she was. What she should be doing was getting ready for rodeo season, stead of spending two months with a boy and baby she didn’t know. 

Dove

She rolled her eyes at the boy's snide comment, laying her head on the desk. "I hope I don't have you as a partner either," she mumbled under her breathe. She let out a deep, frustrated breathe regretting ever being here. She already knew how to care for a child. She'd done so with her sister for years now and even helped out her brother with his son. To Dove, this was all a big waste of her time. 

Finn

Finn stared at the desk, glad that his name hadn't been called yet but anxiety building up that it hadn't. He let out a slow breathe, tapping his fingers on the desk. He watched as a pair walked out of the classroom, the clacking of the girls boots echoing down the hallway. 

Alyce
She retrieved her bag, handing the teacher back his pen once she reached the front. "Thanks." She turned and grinned at Jasper - she wasn't nervous in the slightest, she just wanted out of this school; all there was here for her was stress and sub-par grades.

Mr.Joats 

Nodding his head and turning to them holding out the key “You are assigned House 205.” Pointing to Dirk in the back to come to the front and read who he got from the bowl. “The mother will tell you about her baby and it’s needs before she leaves.” Nodding towards Jasper and Alyce and eyes landing back on Dirk as he stepped aside ready for him to come to the front.

Jasper
He slung his backpack into position, and took his suitcase before taking the key from the teacher. He went to the door and held it open for Alyce.
