Rook
As he trotted down the tunnel, he felt a cool breeze from the entrance. He shivered with anticipation, and his wings unfurled behind him, snagging on the rock. He was a small dragon, but his flowy fins caught and tore so easily. Rook paused and shook his wings free from the stone and folded them against his side. As he did so, he noticed a dark crevice in the wall. "An unexplored tunnel," he murmured, sticking his nose against it and breathing in. He couldn't wait to explore it! "But it must wait until later." With reluctance, Rook turned from the small crevice in the rock. Even he would have to squeeze to go in, but he would be able to nonetheless. Rook sped down the cave and finally reached the entrance. The wind blew gently on his scales and Rook momentarily closed his eyes. He could just imagine he was in the air, soaring steadily, his wings out behind him. His wings unfolded and spread out, rippling in the breeze. Rook's eyes snapped open. "Oh, come on," he grumbled to himself, tucking his wings again. He scanned the sky, and then his gaze fell to the grass far below. He could make out dragons down there. Rook wondered if he could pick his way down the cliffside.

Rook
He watched as Phantom flew down to the cave entrance and landed beside him. "Hi!" he chirped, eyes wide with awe. "Guess what? I found a new tunnel I can explore and I'm super excited because I think it'll lead somewhere super cool and I've never seen it before but it was right off the main tunnel so I don't know how I didn't see it and the entrance is kind if tight but I'll fit so I can't wait to go look at what's down there but first I wanted to come outside and practice flying but then you guys were all busy but now you aren't so maybe I can practice now?" He blinked his big brown eyes upward, dwarfed by the much larger dragon. In his excitement his wings threatened to come out again, but he mentally scolded them and kept them tight against his side.

Citra
Citra nodded, but found herself nodding to the horizon as Phantom swooped towards a younger dragon, Rook, his name was. She watched the silvery drakelet turn to Phantom, evidently speaking a mile a minute based on how fast his mouth was moving. She couldn't quite make out what he was saying, though, over the distance. She turned to the forest, noticing a glint of scales beneath the trees, and swooped in lower, discovering that it was two of the younger dragons, Mattia and Kaida. Mattia she recognized easily, her being only about half the size of Citra herself despite their ages being fairly close. She didn't know either dragon very well, but knew that Mattia hated for people to talk about her size, and she decided to ignore it, she didn't like being made fun of either. She knew nothing about Kaida other than her name. Citra smiled to herself, wondering what they were doing. Hopefully they wouldn't encounter an Enoro; she shuddered mentally at the thought. She flew further away, landing on a hill that the mountain overlooked where she'd dug a slight burrow for sleeping on nights with good weather. It was cool there, and she laid down for a rest.

Phantom
She chuckled at Rook's outpour of words. "That's sweet, just be careful if you explore the cave" she warned gently. "And I'd be happy to watch you so you can practice your flying" she added with a gentle smile. She tucked her large black wings neatly against her back.

Mattia
Mattia crept forwards towards the edge of the river, settling down on her stomach to prevent her shadow from being cast over the water. She waited until a large school of fish swam past, throwing herself in the water head first as she snapped at her chosen fish, pushing herself to back up as quickly as she could, ending up in her standing on the edge of of the river, soaking wet, with a thrashing brown fish clamped between her jaws. "Your turn." She mumbled around her mouthful.

Rook
Rook nodded enthusiastically. "I'm always careful when I'm exploring." He looked over the edge of the cliff a moment and then turned back to Phantom. "Thanks!" At the next gust of wind, his wings flew open. Out in the sunlight, they were a light white color and he took a moment to actually look at them. I look like a fish, he thought, with a hint of disappointment. Phantom had big, strong, powerful, cool-looking wings; Rook was stuck with these light, flowy, and easily torn ones. He gave them an experimental flap. Despite their weak appearance, he knew they could fly with practice. Hopefully. Not letting himself take a moment to look over the edge and get scared, Rook took a small step back before dashing for the cliff edge, wings beating the air, and not stopping. His legs stopped churning when the ground disappeared, and he flapped his wings desperately. They rippled and shifted in the wind. I'm doing it! I'm flying! Rook felt himself moving forward in the sky, his wings propelling himself forward slightly. The wind tugged on them and whistled through them, and Rook couldn't help but glance back at the cliff edge to see how far he'd gone. His stomach sank. Oh, no... He had traveled, but not so much forward as down. He wasn't plummeting because, yes, his wings were doing something, but he wasn't flying very well either. A strong gust of wind hit him, and he felt his right wing tear. Out of control, Rook dropped like a stone toward the ground.

Phantom
She swiftly leaped off of the edge of the cliff and swooped under Rook, holding him up. "There now, I gotcha" she rumbled kindly. She gently started upwards.

Rook
He tried not to dig his claws into her scales, not that they would do anything. He was so small - and she was so much bigger - that he could stand on her back and have room to turn around. He tucked his wings tight against his sides, the right one slightly throbbing where it had torn. Rook's eyes glistened with tears that he was determined to leave unshed. He blinked them away and glanced up at the sky above him with longing. He wished he could fly, and that his wings weren't so flimsy and weak. Rook looked at the cliffside, silver scales shimmering green and blue in the sun. And I embarrassed myself, too. But it'll be okay. I can go exploring while my wing heals. Even this promise to himself didn't help him feel better, though it helped a little.

Phantom
She could sense his sadness. "Hey now, cheer up there little flyer" she rumbled. "It took me a long time and lots of crashes to get to be a good flyer. You'll get it too. Once that wing is healed I'll show you some tricks on learning to fly and help you out, alright buddy?" she said gently, as she landed on the ledge.

Rook
"Okay." Rook clambered off her back and stepped away from the edge. "It's just - my wings are so weak, I don't think I'll ever fly." He looked at his feet forlornly. If he never flew, he would never get to experience that exhilarating rush of wind over his scales. He would be stuck exploring the cave for his whole life. It wasn't too bad a fate, but Rook had always dreamed of soaring in the sky. He knew his story - left in the mountains, his origins unknown. What if his type of dragon didn't fly?

Phantom
She reached out one of her wings, gently wrapping the young dragon in it to comfort him. "We'll try everything we can to get those beautiful little wings of yours strengthened, alright?" She said affectionately. She looked down at him with calm, gentle dark blue eyes.

Rook
He glanced up at Phantom, blinking at her with his wide brown eyes. "Okay," he said again. His eyes sparkled as he pulled away and bounded to the entrance to the cave. "I'm going to go explore," he called to her, and slipped back into the mountain. Rook kept his eyes out for the crevice in the wall.

"Alright little explorer. Let me know what you find" she rumbled after him, glad she'd been able to cheer him up.

Rook
"I will!" he called back as he drifted farther down the cave tunnel. There it was! The unexplored crevice in the wall. Rook slipped into it, squeezing through the small entrance, and paused. He breathed in deeply, but the smells were the same as everywhere else in the cave. Rook set out down the new tunnel, which had widened out once he had gotten past the opening.
