Aw! This sounds so great! I love the idea of foal art, even if its grouped together. That was a good compromise.

@Abbey
Aww man I saw that hint about foal art in the news post and kept quiet about it cause everyone else was oblivious except for those who helped find it. I was anticipating it with excitement :c

The main reason that I've seen as to why people don't support it is the whole money aspect, which you have told us multiple times not to worry about. I think another thing is that it sounds like a lot of work and you're just one person, yes you'd be collaborating with an artist but you have a ton of other stuff on your plate in keeping the game running smoothly, and then you also have real life outside of that. All of us on here enjoy EV and want it to stick around as long as possible, so suggestions that seem harder tend to get shut down if we think it would be too much work for you with very little game improvement. (Foal art is nice but not necessary, so some might think it's just not worth how much effort it takes even though they would appreciate it if it were to be implemented-if they saw you were excited about it then they may change their minds)
I bet if you made a post saying how it was originally planned, possibly throwing up some sample art if you have it, as well as the plans listed above^ Then made a poll just to see everyone's responses, I think it would end up being more accepted. If not then that's ok, but just people seeing that you're in favor of it will definitely tip the scales, just like how the responses were to cross breeding (another subject that was frequently shut down by players whenever it was brought up)

That sounds amazing! I like the idea of grouping them, can't wait to see it happen :)

I'm all for it - if the opportunity ever came up for foal art to be implemented on EV, it would be awesome. And foals could swap from baby size to adult at 6 months or 1 year, it doesn't have to be older...but as its been said, so many people are against this, that anyone who likes it kinda just keeps quiet...but it's also one of the most often occurring suggestions on the forums...seems like a lot of people are into it :)

I like the idea. I think that we should have foal art and once they hit two years old they should be changed to adult art. I think that would be the best. But thats just my opinion.

I want to see this in the future but it doesn't seem to be one that is a priority. I think it would be fun if we did a 'baby shower' event to help fund this one too.

I would love foal art!

The groupings seem very sensible and I think the art should change at 1 year like Cheriton mentioned. It would make the foals stand out in a herd i think (and be really cute). However, that is a huge amount of work, maybe as a slow, ongoing project in the background it would be more manageable than just focusing totally on it.

I don't know what more I can add here. Everyone seems to have very good points: foal art could switch to adult/yearling art at a certain age, grouping foal art so there's less work, etc. I do support this, though. :) Watch. Once and if this is implemented I will spend all day staring at them soaking up their cuteness.

I know I'm pretty new to this site, but I want to just say that this is one thing that sort of stood out to me when I joined. The other pet sim games I've played or still play usually had art of some kind for the babies. With some of the games the art was less detailed than others, and it's just the baby and it's whatever it's base color is. No markings or details or anything like that. And then at 1 year old, it changes and shows the adult image. Other games were a little more detailed and had some basic markings or small details that hinted at what the baby would look like as an adult. I don't see why either of those things couldn't be done here. No, it wouldn't be as realistic as having each foal display all it's markings/patterns right from birth, but having horses compete in 20 shows every single day isn't exactly realistic either, and after all, it is a game.

Another thing is that currently, the foals are born, and immediately you can put tack on them, and you just get that one image for that horse's entire life. Personally, foal art would be good to help differentiate between horses. They can't be trained, they can't enter shows, and I feel like if there was foal art, there should be some way of preventing tack from either being placed on them, or from showing up, since really they don't even need it until they turn 3.

Something else nobody has really mentioned... The greying process changes the horse's color every year. Essentially giving the horse a new image. I understand that it isn't the same thing as getting new art and then switching it from the foal art to the adult art at whatever age, but it is still the horse's image changing. Presumably, an artist spent time doing every single color/marking/pattern combo for every single breed, and then doing a new image of each of those with the increasing shades of grey.

@Eryys: you bring up some good points, but I would just like to point out that I would HATE if foals didn't immediately show all their markings- that's rather unrealistic. I understand that foals might change colors slightly as they get bigger, but they don't just gain markings randomly.

@Raptorfang I'm not saying I'd particularly love that choice myself, just that it is an option. Ultimately it is up to Abbey and her artist, and I'm sure that she wouldn't choose that particular option especially given the amount of detail and work that's gone into the rest of the art on the site. And even if she did, there would still be the chance that more detailed foal art could be put as a side project with small updates for the different breed groupings every once in a while.

I love the idea of foal art. It will add lore and polish to the game, not to mention cuteness. :D

I'd love the foals to happen, as I think the art would be insanely cute! Especially those Miniature foals, though would there be different sizes for some of them? I mean Arabians are a bit bigger than Welsh Ponies after all..
