I don't bet... but sometimes I really should.

My picks for the trifecta were the trifecta today. Congratulations to Nyquist, Exaggerator, and Gun Runner!

Who were your picks for the Kentucky Derby? What did you think of the race?

i'm just glad there were no injuries. Shagaf pulled up and didn't finish the race but we're being told it's because he was "really, really tired".

I was hoping Nyquist, Whitmore, or Lani would of won.

So turns out Nyquist won! :D

I thought it was pretty exciting.

The race held before the Derby today actually saw one horse fall over, tripping another horse, and losing both jockeys. Apparently none of them were injured.

I think people are underestimating how well Nyquist ran, and that ride by Mario was a hall of famer ride. Engaging for that lead, and just hoping Danzig Candy(P20) would break well and lead into that first turn. He did, and Mario took Nyquist to the outside and that was brilliant. We had our first triple crown winner in 37 years last year, and he was just about the best-looking horse that can ALSO run I've seen in forever. I dont blame people for doubting him, and I'll admit I did. He impressed everybody today by staying undefeated.

Also for the first quarter and half mile..I'm amazed Nyquist had enough left for the end considering he sat Danzig's hind quarters almost the entire race.

For Shagaf..his work outs were limited and no wonder he was tired. Thats like telling an un-fit child to run a mile in under 7 minutes. Chad Brown(His trainer) is a creditable man and I'm sure they'll tend to him well.

It was a ridiculously amazing run for Nyquist and Mario... I swear I held my breath the entire way and had to hold back from screaming at the end (I was watching in the gym office XD).

I didn't particularly like the look of Pharaoh, but I had a feeling about him... just like I had a feeling about I'll Have Another (I think he would have taken home the crown if he didn't have to be retired). I get gut feelings about horses and it's almost never wrong. It's a pity I don't bet sometimes...

It was really funny, a good while before the race I was talking to my boyfriend. I was like, "I think Nyquist is going to win it. Exaggerator is my second... and I just have a feeling about Gun Runner." And what do you know? XD

crazy if we went 37 years without a Triple Crown winner, then had two back-to-back (which has only happened once with Secretariat in 1977 and Affirmed in 1978)

I was hoping for Lani to win, or Gun Runner. :P Haha it was annoying when I learned the results before watching the race. I'm in the UK so had I watch it in the morning lol. I turned on my phone and the first thing I saw was "Nyquist wins the Kentucky Derby!" x3

Nyquist wasn't my favorite and I'm kind of irritated they used Danzig candy to win like that :( in all of Danzig candys previous races always stayed 2nd/3rd off never led - seems to me they used him as the mouse.

Last year I picked the derby trifecta, I don't think nyquist has what it takes to be another triple crown horse. I think exaggerator will learn to run the distance for the Belmont...

I placed money (fake) on nyquist, exaggerator, outwork, and gun runner.....
I chose exaggerator as my first pick bc of his pace. To be honest, I really don't believe nyquist has what it takes to win the triple crown. Exaggerator would have beaten him if he had had just *this* much more track. He kept a steady canter while everyone else was burning fire. I believe this horse has what it takes to win the Preakness and Belmount. Belmount is a burning grave yard for speed horses, I believe exaggerator has the best chance of winning. My bets where (in order of most likely) exaggerator, gun runner, nyquist, outwork. Nyquist did great now, but will he survive a real challenge of distance???

I was really hoping Whitmore would win because Victor Espinoza - my favorite jockey - was riding him. But I'm just as happy for Nyquist!

Exaggerator has a better chance for the Belmont, but we'll just have to wait and see. Nobody thought Secretariat could do it either, but he sure showed the world what an amazing animal he was.

The way exaggerator comes off the pack to gain distance at the end of a race now. I see no problem whatsoever with him winning the belmont if his team gets their act together and train/rest him right over the coming weeks.

I think exaggerators team should skip the preakness and use that time to train him for the belmont then run the belmont. Thats what I think.
