Fun with genetics!

So I'm trying to breed solid rare color Gypsy Vanners. I got bored and decided to see what my fancy stud would likely produce. I calculated that if I bred:

this Cremello dun stallion
with
this Seal Brown Cream*

I have a 6% chance of each of these:
Seal Brown Cream Dun
Seal Brown Dun
Smoky Black Dun
Classic Dun
Seal Brown Cream
Seal Brown
Smoky Black
Black

12.5% chance of each of these:
Dunalino
Red Dun
Palomino
Chestnut

Therefore, if I breed these two fancy-colored ponies together, I've got an 18% (almost 1/5) of throwing a boring chestnut or black.

I'm amused by this :P

*this mare's color is listed as Seal Brown Cream, despite not having a cream gene. She's posted in the bug board.

Actually, since your stallion is Cremello, all the foals will get a cream gene.

You have a 50% chance of a chestnut base, 25% black, and 25% seal brown. (50% ee, which will always be chestnut. 50% Ee, which can express black, but of that, 50% will be Eeaa (black) and 50% will be EeAta (seal brown) bringing it to 25% black and 25% seal brown (50% of 50%).)

100% will be cream, so that comes to 50% palomino, 25% smoky black, and 25% seal brown cream.

Your chance of dun is 50/50.

So, here are your color chances:

25% palomino
25% dunalino
12.5% smoky black
12.5% smoky black dun
12.5% seal brown cream
12.5% seal brown cream dun

Classic dun is actually bay dun, not black dun (grullo).

Genetics is a tricky thing, and often very surprising! But this looks like a good match to get some sort of interesting color.

That guaranteed cream is nice!

It drives me nuts when I breed awesome parents and get a very basic foal. It's happened to me a few times before. :P

But I think no matter what combination of genes you get out of this pair, it'll be a nice color.
