Originally I was just going to suggest chatting about books but I figured it would be more fun if we covered everything.

Personally I'm a big fan of the Firebringer Trilogy.

It's the only book I know of the completely centers around unicorns. Don't get me wrong, I like the Unicorn Chronicles a lot too and I grew up on Unicorns of Balinor, but it' fun to see things from the perspective of the equines.

What other books/games/movies/etc. would you guys recommend?
It doesn't have to be unicorn related, I just love a good unicorn story.

I love watching horses do insanely silly things.

we had a horse who would BEG for attention, ones that would step into the water trough on hot days, and one that would just lay down on the trail whenever I led rides on him. LOL

Heartland is based off of a book series. It's about a girl and her family farm, she is a horse fixer.

Thanks mardi gras,

I love watching horses being goofy too. They have so much more personality than non-horse people give them credit for.

I'm definitely going to have to look up that show.

Heartland was the best book series when I was in 5th grade. I was absolutely obsessed.

Oh my, I haven't thought about The Unicors of Balinor in a loooooong time! I loved that series! I was never able to red every book though, as the local library had a few, and I was only able to buy one or two of them.

I'd have to say that even as an adult, I still love reading anything by Walter Farley. I may be a bit biased though :P he is the author who really got me into reading, and introduced me to the world of horses.

One book, not totally about horses, I enjoyed is "No Job for a Lady" the autobiography of M. Phyllis Lose, one of the first female equine vets.

My favorite things are studying pathology of the hoof and lower limbs mainly because my mare suffers from hock arthritis at only 12 years old :( I recommend equine lameness prevention organization for their methods on trimming hooves and shoeing if needed.

I'm just a boring adult though who spends more time studying about the whole horse itself - nutrition and ways to help them over tv shows and other

Although I did get my husband hooked on heartland.

For anyone who's interested, the unicorn chronicles finished a few years ago, so this would be a good time to finish.

I think Balinor only ended up going to book 8. It didn't seem finished but I have no idea if something happened that interrupted the series.

Can't believe I forgot the last unicorn/shame

I have so many new things to check out now C:

Rhine I spend my free time looking up genetics and checking bloodlines in different mustang herds. I don't think your interests are boring haha.

Did anyone else read the thoroughbred series? Granted it got VERY long and I stopped reading when the author changed, but for a while it was amazing!

I never liked Heartland :/ the books or the show. I tried them in 5th grade, tried again later in high school. They're so mind-numbingly bland to me.

I personally really like the Keystone Stables books. They're about a juvenile delinquent girl who gets adopted by a couple who own a Christian rehab ranch. It's God-centered, which I respect but do not follow personally, but they're not completely about that and have a TON of good messages and a beautiful storyline with memorable characters.

Saddle Club was my jam back when I played with my Breyers...I also loved Phantom stallion, both the normal series and the island ones.

I also grew up visiting Chincoteague often and saw the pony swim once, as well as visited the Misty relatives who live on the family's ranch and seen the museum a few times. I've always loved Misty and all of Marguerite Henry's books.

HOW COULD I FORGET SUNDANCER. Shelley Peterson's books are SO GOOD but Sundancer is especially amazing. It's about a selectively mute autistic girl who can talk to animals telepathically. It's super sad in some parts and really amazing.
