Is This TRUE??!

#27182 Posted on 2016-04-05 14:03:44

I first saw this on Facebook and went to the site to read the whole article... Is it true? If so, that's sick.

Child survivors of the Nepal earthquake are being sold to British families to work as domestic slaves, according to an investigation.

Boys and girls as young as 10 are being bought for just Β£5,250 by black market gangs operating in the Punjab region of India, The Sun has alleged.

Thousands of people died when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on April 25 and left millions in need of aid.

The newspaper reported the gangs are preying on the children of Nepalese refugees and destitute Indian families.

And it claimed wealthy British families were buying the youngsters to work as unpaid domestic servants.

The Sun alleged a trader, named Makkan Singh, lined up youngsters for an undercover reporter to pick them up

He said: "We have supplied lads who have gone on to the UK.

"Most of the ones who are taken to England are Nepalese.

"For the supply of a boy, minimum 500,000 rupees (around Β£5,250). Then you will have other costs associated with taking him to the UK, but that's your responsibility extra to what you pay us.

"Take a Nepalese to England. They are good people. They are good at doing all the housework and they're very good cooks. No-one is going to come after you," according to The Sun.

Home Secretary Theresa May said child trafficking is a "truly abhorrent crime" and urged the National Crime Agency to investigate the newspaper's findings.

She told the newspaper: "No child, anywhere in the world, should be taken away from their home and forced to work in slavery.

"That is why we introduced the landmark Modern Slavery Act last year, which included enhanced protections for potential child victims of slavery and sentences up to life imprisonment for those found guilty.

"We encourage The Sun to share its disturbing findings with the Police and National Crime Agency so that appropriate action can be taken against the vile criminals who profit from this trade."

The Modern Slavery Act was introduced last October to crack down on modern day slavery and protect victims of trafficking.

I wouldn't be surprised. I hate human trafficking, but child trafficking is even worse in my opinion. Taking the most vulnerable population and exposing them to who knows what! Most likely, they are being used for s.e.x. D:

that is very sad, in any circumstance.

I'd make sure you are getting your news from reputable sources, though. I'm not sure what site this is.

I didn't share the site because I wasn't sure if I would be allowed. If you'd like I can PM it to you.

I'm just saddened and amazed at what people will do. I mean, come on! These kids just went through so much. Some probably lost families!

I wouldn't doubt that it's true.

In fact, a friend of mine on another game was trafficked for... other reasons. I thank God that they were able to get out of it.

I've been notified via PM that the site I found this on isn't always reliable and therefore this may not be true.

I wouldn't believe half of what I see on facebook. Most sources on there are fake "news" sites or exaggerate to death and back.

However, I know for a fact that things like this are real. In fact, even if this publication in particular was "made up", I can assure you similar things have happened.

It's horrific but this is what comes of children and families in disaster areas or very very poor places. Families send their kids off for "work" with kind strangers who come by to recruit, and are actually sold into slavery. They're told their kids will be safer in a different home, taken care of and fed.

Refugees and prisoners taken from certain countries and different areas are often forced into this as well. Sometimes it's just working in awful conditions, sold to rich families as domestic helpers, sometimes it's worse.

I also have a friend in this situation, but he's American and recently was let go because he's too old for it now.

Oswin, I know you're pretty young and might not want to read about it too much, but there's a beautifully written book - Sold by Patricia McCormick - that isn't too graphic in detail and is told from a the viewpoint of a young girl who was sold into human trafficking. It's an "adult" topic, of course, but the book is lovely and heartbreaking, and sheds a lot of light on the reality of what happens in these situations (and it has a nice ending, too!). It's a YA book, though, and in the reviews are some thoughts from kids as young as 12.

It sites The Sun which I believe is the UK's equivalent to like The National Enquirer or whatever it's called. Ya know the one that runs stories about Elvis sightings, bat boy, and mermaids?

As an English girl although England isn't perfect (but then which country is?!) I'd like to second what Lizz said & The Sun is full of nothing but lies Ie the story where a loaf of non gluten bread cost Β£32.27 a loaf or that a british comedian was going to take drugs live on TV for a science experiment - that's just off the top of my head.

To call it a paper is an insult!
