Why my forum posts always make extra spaces?

#238605 Posted on 2021-04-30 13:10:38

I just created a new forum post, https://www.equiverse.com/topic.php?id=238604, and lately anytime I do it creates these massive gaps in between my lines. I usually like to have one space between some lines to make everything easy to read, and that's how I type it when creating the initial post. But every single time it goes and makes these huge gaps. And I can't for the life of me sort out how to fix it. Once or twice I've been able to fix it, but I don't exactly know what I did to make it better. If anyone knows, or can help me, I'd be super appreciative!

If you look in the source code (the page icon) it shows that each line creates a new tag even if it's the same tag as the line above, especially if you copy paste anything into the box, and each tag counts as an extra line. You can avoid this by typing in the source code first, then adding where you want bbcode after.

I don't know a whole lot about the coding. I tried looking at it and I can't quite tell what it's saying. Is there a code for dummies way I can go about fixing it? xD

Basically, when you look in your source code each line is saying.

[ center][ font size=2] text here[ /font][ /center]

[ center][ font size=2] text here[ /font][ /center]

Any time a [ code] is set at the beginning it adds to the linespacing. The font size is an unnecessary bbcode in the text as that is already the default font size.

So to reduce the amount of spacing anywhere where you have an unnecessary [ center] tag for example you should take out. i.e if your whole post is to be centred, you just need [ center] as the first thing in your post and [ /center] as the last thing in your post.

The easiest way to revert to non-bbcode text is to copy your post, open the source side of it, and paste it in. It doesn't copy the tags that were applied to it. (When you paste into the default view with something that had a code applied to it, it pastes that code in also.
