Gypsy Vanner Questions!

#232 Posted on 2016-02-13 12:24:09

I decided to get into Vanners on a small scale after peeking at the recode art, and now i have a small herd of 10 horses (5 mares and 5 stallions) waiting to have their colors and disciplines assigned.

What are the "best" colors?
- is everything other than bay, black, chestnut, and tobiano novel enough that anything i choose will be good? i'd eventually like to offer stud/brood to other players, so having desirable colors would help in that regard.

What is the typical discipline?
- i'm fine with choosing the most common one for my small herd

What else should I consider and/or know about Vanner breeding?

Thanks!
:D

Typical Discipline is Driving/Pulling
... but I'm trying to make it in Dressage with a few others! XD

On the previous versions solids > patterned,
and chestnuts > bay/black/grey.

Now there are a multitude of new colors, so I'd assume any of the new ones are going to be popular, even over chestnut. I've just started playing around with the customizer and... phew.

I know!
I'm gonna assume early that cremes are going to be really popular, just due to the popularity of creme in other breeds.

I want to make some, but at the same time I want to know what colors are allowed through the regular store vs the customizer.

Like Nittrous said, in the previous live version, solids and chestnuts were in more demand. But that's from when there was only Black, Bay, Chestnut and Grey with Tobiano or solid for options.

With the massive number of colors and options...I'm almost thinking that we might need to wait a little bit to see what ends up more in demand.

As for training, yeah, Driving/Pulling seemed to be the default previously. At least in the GVs that were active at the time. There is a small and growing cluster of people doing Dressage one of us, ONE OF US and more blood in the breeding pool is always welcome! I think there were a few people doing jumping with their GVs, and my hat off to them!

I'm going to be breeding Vanners too. Aiming for colour/pattern myself as I really don't like solid horses xD too plain for me. I'm picky, oops.

I'm training them in Driving.

I went ahead and decided make them colors that I thought were pretty. I'll have at least 20 weeks to look at them and decide breeding plans, so for now i went with what was most visually appealing to me :P

i guess now i have to choose between driving and dressage xD

I stuck with driving for simplicity sake (also im a bit lazy) and as for colour choices my idea of specialising in solid chesnut went out the window when I saw all the new varieties available, I definitely will be focusing on the roan aspect of breeding :D so excited to see the variey of Vanners will we have!

I was personally going to start a line of double cream jumping vanners. After seeing the art I'll likely be doing couble cream and double sabino.

Mine are going to stay in driving, but I'm going to be creating quite the herd of shiny new pretties, haha. The colors are just so gorgeous, I can barely stand it!

I think it'll take a while to discover what colors become the most popular/turn out to be less common.

I got a chestnut in the tutorial, and Ulysses mega-lucked out and got a seal brown! I'll probably play around with getting some new stores, as well as swapping some of my cull breeds over to exciting new colors. I just can't decide which are my favorites!

I went with dressage just for fun - the mental image of my pretty new pons actually showing in the ring was too hard to resist xD
