*update QH cream+dun dilution breed art [w/pics!]

Something that's been kind of bugging me, as I have a breed in my stables that is noticeably a bit ... off.

The biggest culprit is the seal bay base as I will detail below:

So here we have the seal bay base. Pretty! V nice. Much chocolatey goodness.

So moving on to single dilutions, we have dun (top) and single cream (bottom):

300x250300x250

Now other breed art for single cream on seal bay shows a similar trend.

Dun in itself has a pretty wide range on bay, from buttermilk to a tawny brown.

However, dun and cream are both dilutions; so moving on to the final combination of
seal bay + dun + single cream:

300x250

So this is a double dilution [D_/nCr], though single cream [nCr] presents as an incomplete dominant.

(aka this is not a perlino dun [D_/CrCr] )

So to bring us to real life examples for comparison:

This is black + dun + single cream (aka smoky grulla).

bay + dun + single cream (aka dunskin or what would probably be referred to as light buttermilk dun)

250x300

grullo (black + dun)

300x230

(bay + dun)

What I am suggesting:

1. take the art for seal bay + dun and use it for cream instead (this aligns with the foal art a lot better, so double win)

(to save you the search this is the seal bay + cream foal art)

80x100

2. take the art for seal bay + cream + dun and use it for the seal bay + dun base (has the right tones for it)

3.  alter the seal bay + dun + cream art to be closer to light mouse dun :

150x120

4. tweak the dunskin (bay + cream + dun) art to look like a light buttermilk dun :

150x110

For a quick comparison to the bay base as it suffers the same issue (imo):

( [top] bay dun > [mid] buckskin > [bot] dunskin)

190x150190x150190x150

I know it might come across as a bit nit picky, but I think the time it would take to alter the base art is really minimal vs the impact it would have visually.

*I believe the seal bay base has the same issues for GVs and paints, but those are the only ones I am personally familiar with.*

/a small aside/

From what I have come to understand: we have learned that wild bay, bay, and seal bay aren't genetically different from one another beyond phenotype (visual representation / how it looks but its been a while since I've read any scientific papers on it so feel free to correct and link me with recent verified studies). So, you might notice I didn't include the genotype or horses that have been tested, for the reason that all we *really* can tell, is that they have things we can genetically test for:

1) dun expression

2) cream expression

3) E_/aa (black) base or E_/A_ (bay) base.

There are plenty of examples if you go searching, but I just was looking to provide quick reference for, what I believe, most semi-horsey people would be able to easily identify without much question. Dun has very obvious phenotyping, and cream is pretty straightforward. Again there is a huge variance with dun and agouti (bay) expression alone, not including the myriad of terms used to describe dun colours.

/end/

thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Support - Would love to get my hands on Buttermilk horses! But I can't imagine there's much that can be done with this because I doubt the original artist will recolour anything. I think we had this issue before years ago with something else and that was the explanation.

But we can only hope since Tobiano markings are in the works to be fixed for Mustangs/TWH at least (could be more breeds but I don't have experience of them) though they are just using the same markings off of other breeds that are correct like the DWB... which isn't the same thing as a full recolour I guess.

I would be really disappointed if it was out of the realm of possibility, just because those bases (the double dilutes) are so so so close to being accurate, it would take just a little fiddling around to adjust them to perfection. But I can hope!

(I also love the tobi pattern that dwbs/paints have @-@ its so pretty).
