Bit of a tack issue

#13750 Posted on 2016-03-02 13:39:14

Hurr. I made a punny. Geddit? A bit is a form of tack.

Anyway.

This is just something I've noticed. In the old EV, tack had a limited amount of uses. You could put it on 4 or 5 different horses before it would be used up. With the new EV, this doesn't seem to be an issue. The end result? The market is currently being flooded with tack. Add in the free tack gotten from the junkyard or the fountain? Right now, it's a great deal cheaper to buy tack from the marketplace than from the store (can sometimes find 1/5 tack for as low as $5).

I've managed to snag 2/5 and 3/5 for less than or right at the amount that the store sells 1/5 tack. Right now, people are offloading unwanted tack from discipline changes, so I imagine that the market is going to be flooded for some time.

However, as it stands, tack can stay "Forever" as long as the repairs are kept up. Starting to see the issue? The whole point of being able to buy from the store and upgrade tack is to help get some money out of the game.

I realize that it's going to take a bit of time for the item market economy to stabilize a bit, but I can see this becoming a potential future issue.

I don't see it as a problem yet. New stables need tack and if they can use the item store, they will buy up excess over time. I am glad I don't have to wrry about tack going *poof*.

That's the thing. Right now, there's so much excess tack going for so cheap in the marketplace, that the tack store is pointless.

I literally just picked up 20 pieces of tack, some of which was level 2 and 3, for just under $900.

Tack going poof was a nice thing. It helped take money out o the economy. A single piece of tack would, if kept on the horse for the lifetime of the animal, last well over a year.

If tack reaches 100% wear it does leave the game and I think eventually people will forget about tack long enough they loose it so this might help. Overall I think this problem will smooth out when the game is a little more established. :)

*Also everytime you repair your tack that is costing you money (so money is still leaving the game for tack reasons). Right now I pay roughly 9k everyday repairing tack way more than I spent daily on tack in the Old EV.

I think the money going into the game has mostly been balanced out by the fact you have to repair it in order to keep it. (And pay to upgrade it, though that's just an initial cost.) I'm paying between 2k and 3k each day to repair my tack, which I think averages out to more money spent per day than I would on the old version having to buy new tack. (Though I never figured out a daily average; I just bought it when I needed it.)

It's true that the market does get flooded with cheap tack, though. Although I think that will eventually even out as well, once people have gotten rid of all their excess tack that was imported.
