A large, impressive herd of wild horses once roamed the plains. There were no humans, no shortages of grass, and few predators ever attacked such a large and powerful herd, so all was peaceful... Until now. A giant storm hits, the area floods, and the herd is separated. Alone among predators, the remaining members of the herd must win the struggle to find each other.... And survive.

Rules
-No controlling other people's characters
-No romance
-Third person only
-You can kill your own characters, but don't have half of your characters die right at the beginning, and it can't be too gory

August
August's eyes skimmed the horizon slowly. "Storm's coming," She murmured softly. She hoped they were prepared for it. Look around, August. See how strong this herd is? Of course we're prepared for it, She told herself, and moved away from the view of the dark clouds and distant thunder, reassured.

Forest
Fore glanced up at the sound of a far-off rumbling, discovering the oncoming storm. it would be on them soon. He knew he shouldn't be worried, they had and could handle storms. But he couldn't shake the bad feeling about this one clinging to his bones. He shivered, and decided to stand here and not move a muscle until the storm he had such a bad feeling about had passed.

Peskal and Dionah
Both foals ignored the nearby thunder and dark clouds, this was an intense game of tag, and they couldn't risk being distracted now. Dionah panted, if only she could tag Peskal, then maybe they could stop.

Twilight
Twi flicked her ears back nervously. "I hate it when all of these storms come!" Se muttered to herself. "Why can't we just move somewhere else while it rains? We're going to get someone killed, maybe me, with all of this lightning around."

Valentina:
Vee stood under a small oak tree, watching the horizon. It looked like a storm was coming. She snorted dismissively. Storms weren't that dangerous. The old worryworts got nervous, and the foals jumped at the sound of thunder, but that was just things that Vee could snicker at. But still... the sky was very dark. It could actually be threatening this time. So what? Let it destroy this place; see if I care, she thought bluntly. They all enjoy it here so much, but I have nothing but ill memories from living here.

Perri

Standing next to her half sister grazing quietly the little grey mare snorted into the grass at Twilight's comment "don't worry... we'll be fine" as Jario approached she lifted her head with a smile and nuzzled him affectionately.

Jario

Lifting his head he watched the dark swirling cloud on the horizon then quickly scanned the herd for Perri, spotting her he trotted over to her and Twilight "hey love".

Elsa

The tall mare cantered back to the herd, she'd been off checking the river banks, they weren't swollen at all yet so she thought the rain from the mountains mustn't have entered their river, that gives us plenty of time before the storm. Slowing to a trot she looked around the herd.

Dionah
Dionah glanced up as the first raindrops began to fall, first slowly, then faster. "We had better go someplace dry," She commented, and when Peskal started to disagree, lightning started to flash, and he nodded, wide eyed. But where could they get out of the rain? Just then, August called for them- "Here, Peskal! Here, Dionah!" They exchanged looks, then rushed over, before it got any worse. But by the time they reached her, they were covered with rain and mud, and gladly huddled beneath their mother.

Twilight
Twili snorted slightly. "Not likely, nothing can be perfect forever," She replied. The rain had started falling harder, and she moved towards a small group of other horses, it seemed safer. But nothing's safe from lightning... Do I really worry too much? She wondered, before trying to push the thought aside.

Hickory
Hickory quickly found Twilight, huddled near some of the horses that had grouped together. A wise idea, he decided. It was warmer and drier than anywhere else. He recognized August, her foals trembling beside her, and gave a wry smile. Typical, He thought, turning away. But where else would they go?

Forest
Fore turned away from the herd, he was fine alone. No danger in a little storm. He smirked lightly at his next thought. Even though they sure seem to think so.

Valentina:
The pale gold mare watched as a grullo stallion separated himself from the herd, like she had done. Interesting. Another one like her. Vee snorted to herself, fixing her gaze on him.

Twilight
As she watched, the rain came down continually harder, but that was the least of her worries. The main worry for her was that the rain was coming not only from the sky, but, in a great wave accompanied by a fearsome whoosh, had started coming from the direction of the river. As the water rapidly gained on them, she shivered, closing her eyes and waiting for the water to reach them.

Hickory
His assuring smile as he headed for his panicked mate soon turned to an expression similar to hers, although at least a bit calmer, when he noticed just what she was so terrified about. A huge wave of water, heading straight towards them, most likely from the river nearby. The river flooded? This is more than I expected, and worse. Far worse.

Forest
Fore looked up, as the herd started to neigh desperately. "Hm... This looks bad," He muttered, the herd had little chance of escaping the flood.

Valentina:
Vee trotted from under the tree as the water started rising. That wasn't normal. She had never seen something like that. She didn't know whether to tough it out or to get scared. It was just water, after all... but trouble was in the air. Her fur stood on end as she began to get nervous.

Dionah
The water gained fast, until, finally, it swept over the cluster of horses. Mates, siblings, and mothers and their foals attempted furiously to stay together, but the water swept horses in all directions, and there was no way to avoid it. Dionah thrashed so hard, the water turned to a froth, but Peskal and her mother where swept out of view. Unable to reach them, Dionah finally reduced her goals to trying to stay afloat, which at least kept her occupied.

Twilight
Twi was too worried about the situation to think, but when she got over that, it was even worse. Where was Hickory? Where was the rest of the herd? Where was she? And what was going to happen? No use asking questions, not ones that neither she nor anyone else could answer. So what could she do to escape the flood? She didn't know the answer to that one, either.

August
August was swept far from the herd, or maybe not, she couldn't tell. All she knew was she had been caught in the flood for a long time. Who knew how long, the sun was covered with clouds. Maybe it was the middle of the night, or maybe it had been only an hour.

Valentina:
Vee shouted as she was swept off her feet my the overwhelming, rouge tide. She scrabbled to regain her footing, but it was hard. She grimaced as her body was constantly slammed against rocks and plants as the current carried her away.

Forest
Forest was swept a long ways, until he reached a slender rock jutting out of the water. Bruised and battered, he found a steep path of sorts, and was able to pull himself up. On a ledge above the water, he balanced precariously, not sure how high the waters would rise before the flood stopped.

Dionah
Dionah thought the waters would never go down, the currents would never slow or stop, the stormy sky and bitter cold rain would never end. The rain felt like ice, pelting her coat, the clouds appeared to be made of iron, and the lightning seemed like relentless, jagged gold-white stones, poking the ground-or, that is, the inky waves above the ground. It seemed they were teasing her, showing how easily they could destroy her, or her herd. Or, what's left of my herd, she contradicted herself, shuddering.
