Is this against the rules?

#75292 Posted on 2016-11-10 23:22:27

I've noticed on a few horses that I've bought from other players that when I bid on them they were stallions, but after my bid was accepted they were geldings. It's really unfair because I wouldn't have paid as much for them if I'd known I wouldn't be able to breed them. Are players allowed to geld stallions right before accepting a bid on them or should I report it?

There is not a rule against it.

it's not against the rules.

that said, gelding a stallion before accepting a bid on him is shady and downright unfair. Personally i'd contact the seller and ask for my money back. I'm actually going to make a suggestion that it not be allowed.

I'd try to contact the owner. You can post about the ability of this to happen. Guess someone else has done it now.

I had this happen to me the other day. I figured I just made a mistake and it was a gelding, but the more I think about it the more I believe it was gelded before my bid was accepted. I sent the horse back to her immediately because I had no need for a gelding, and I didn't ask for my money back because I thought it was my fault.

However, public blacklists ARE against the rules.

So if someone did wrong you, you cannot post their names on the forums or on your page.

I'd save the horses as proof, makes it easier to backtrack so they aren't deleted.

Wait - so there's a rule against public blacklists but not against putting a stallion up for sale and then gelding it right before taking the buyer's bid? I think there should be a rule for both.

I honestly don't think this has ever been reported happening in the past. I do know there is a suggestion regarding it. make gelding stallions for sale impossible :)

Frankly this sounds like a bug, or at least an aspect of the game working in a manner other than what is intended. Stallions shouldn't be able to gelded while they have bids placed on them, without the bids being either automatically or manually removed.

I would argue that if someone is doing this intentionally then it could be considered to be taking advantage of a bug or loophole, which is against the rules (TOS section 3.4) and could potentially get the player banned. I suggest reporting them and having Abbey look into it when she gets back from her honeymoon.

I'm planning on mentioning it to Abbey as soon as she gets back. I have even mentioned it to the other mods. Fear not, we will let Abbey know!

Did you manage to establish whether or not this was against the rules, or a bug, or something else? I'm keen to know whether it's possible for this to still occur so I can take appropriate precautions.

@UlyssesBlue Abbey did say today that she will fix it in the next update, but I'm still not sure if it's specifically against the rules. It could fall under taking advantage of a bug like you said or false advertising. It hasn't happened to me again but I did take screenshots of it happening to another player and I'm waiting for her to confirm that she didn't intend to buy a gelding and then I'm going to report it just to see what happens. I definitely think there should be some sort of consequence for the player(s) who have been doing this.
