Let's figure out the breeding formula

#62357 Posted on 2016-08-21 00:59:00

Hi guys! I'm trying to put together another foal stat prediction calculator and need some help working out the details of the breeding formula. I have some theories I need to test, and for that I need to see the results of lots of different breedings, so I'm putting out a call for you all to share your breeding records.

What I need from you:
- stats of the sire and dam at the time of breeding
- birth stats of the sire and dam
- birth stats of their foal
Just copy and paste all the parents' individual stats into a post here when you breed them, then do the same with their foal when it's born.
It is very important that I know the exact parent stats when they're bred, not later, when their stats have increased further, as this will distort my results and create errors.

I am especially keen to see a wide range of different breedings, such as:
- breedings between store horses
- breedings between 2nd generation horses
- breedings between long lined horses, e.g. 10th generation
- breedings between a very high statted horse and a very low statted horse
- breedings between horses in different disciplines (i.e. their speciality stats are in different areas)
- identical twins (i.e. when you breed a pair of horses, then use credit items to birth the foal immediately and then breed the same pair of horses immediately so that both foals are the product of the same parents with the same stats.)

Preliminary Results
Your data has been giving me a great idea of what contributes to the foal stats and what doesn't, so although my work isn't complete yet, I do have some good findings to share with you which I hope you find useful for planning future breedings:
- Discipline-specific stats seem to get a small bonus. A horse with no discipline set will not get this bonus.
- Birth stats play a major role! If you're not already documenting all individual birth stats I highly recommend you start, as you'll need this information later.
- There probably is not a random factor included in the breeding formula, which means things will be predictable.
- Foundation horses seem to get a small breeding bonus, so starting new lines or outcrossing to new blood doesn't carry as severe a penalty as the relatively low stats would suggest.

Me too, I'll have probably a good three dozen pairings for you in the upcoming weeks. :)

I've got a bunch of breedings scheduled starting Oct 1, spread out into November. A couple have pedigrees, most are stores. Should help!

And I'll do at least one identical twin thing for the sake of your research.

Just bred this pair today (so sad they didn't reach 1k). Will edit with foals stats when it's born

SIRE (Draco)
STR: 8
SPD: 24
AGI: 446
INT: 447
END: 15
ALL: 940

DAM (Hermione)
STR: 18
SPD: 32
AGI: 419
INT: 419
END: 16
ALL: 904

FOAL
STR: 5
SPD: 13
AGI: 236
INT: 237
END: 7
ALL: 498

Wow good luck figuring it out. I bet foundation horses will be easier to notice a pattern, because I think generations some how affect it?
