Once you were famous. Crowds cheered as you were paraded around in a circle with blue ribbons and wreaths hanging around your neck. Whether it be racing, showjumping, dressage, or any other competitive equestrian event, you were at the top of your game. Every night you were given the best treatment, with sugar cubes, carrots, warm water cleanings, and a careful grooming. You lived the pampered life. Everything was good.

All good things must come to an end.

Something happened. Maybe you were too old, maybe you were injured, maybe you suddenly started losing competitions. Your time was done, they said. You were abandoned, left in an old pasture without the luxuries you were once used to. So you escaped, and you found us. We're a herd of retirees, trying to live life in the wild. Predators come frequently, and we are not used to such harsh living conditions, but we'll get through this somehow. Once you were famous, but no more. Once you were a legend.

Plot Summary: Herd of once-famous domesticated horses living in a single herd together. They do not work as a normal herd, because they are not quite sure how a normal herd functions. This plot centers around multiple issues they struggle with, from lack of food, to poor weather conditions, to multiple predator attacks, run-ins with other herds, and anything else that can possi warmer areas.

Ranks:

Lead Stallion: Has absolute power over the herd. [me for start]

Lead Mare: Leads the herd alongside the lead stallion. She typically checks in on the herd to make sure nothing is wrong with any individual. [none for start]

Beta Stallion: Wing-man to the lead. When the lead stallion is gone, the beta stallion is in charge. Horses may also go to him to resolve issues if they do not want to bother the leader. [Desired Rank only]

Beta Mare: The mate of the Beta Stallion. At this point she has little responsibility but may also help to settle disputes if they come up. [Desired Rank only]

Sentries: Horses that are to keep constant watch over the herd. They may do so in shifts. [3 max.]

Regular Members: The bulk of the herd. They work as a team to make the herd a better place to be.

Rules:
- These horses are domesticated, therefore they are not as accustomed to the wild. They are all use to living in very luxurious standards and will not adapt easily. In addition, they have very poor fighting skills, both against predators and other horses. While they may be strong from training, they are not wild-strong.
- An 'x' should go in the other part of the sign up so I know you read this
- Realistic descriptions of horses only. I don't want to see any purple horses with electric-blue manes and tails and blood-red eyes. No bueno.
- Make the breed of your horse match the competition. i.e. no draft horses who were once in races.
- No horse is perfect. Please do not make Mary Sues or Gary Stues. Not sure? Check here: http://katfeete.net/writing/suestart.php
- Do not play as anyone else's horse, and do not god-mod. I control the weather and time. I'm fine with you guys having predators attack, but do not go overboard with it. A single horse, no matter what the predator, will never be able to drive off an enemy alone, and injuries will always be sustained.
- Arguing is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
- You do not have to create even genders, but please make at least one mare and one stallion.
- You must be literate, meaning proper spelling and grammar used to the best of your ability. Also, posts may be no shorter than four sentences per character per post.
- More rules may be added in the future. I will notify you if there are any additions.

I seriously love this idea so much!

Show Name: Icy Winter Winds

Barn Name: Winter

Age: 4 years

Gender: mare

Rank: sentry

Desired Rank: n/a, she's good where she is!

---

Personality: fast thinker - troubled - easily irritated - sly - daredevil

History: (You know I'm gonna write a mini book)
Winter is descendant of a racehorse named Icecapade, who was a half brother to the legendary Ruffian (Icecapade was a real horse and was a half brother to Ruffian irl). The spirited filly shared the same fire as her ancestors did, and she was also very fast from a young age. She was also a bit... bossy and rude, you could say. Especially to humans! But she trained up well, and by the age of 2 she was in her first race. She blew the field away, and finished a staggering 8 lengths in front! Not the longest margin ever, no, but pretty darn good for a maiden! She went undefeated all throughout her first and second years as a racer, even winning G1 stakes races with the boys. The mare was a sensation. Her trainer and owners decided to enter her in the Kentucky Derby, but there was a problem: her jockey ever since her first race had recently fallen off a horse and broke his arm. He would be able to ride again, but obviously not in time for any of that year's Triple Crown races. So, they hired the only other available jockey at the time that could handle her sass. But he was a bit harsh. Sure, Winter could take it, but would she? No. The two fought and fought. Rider would whip her too hard. Horse would in turn buck him off. But, unfortunately, the man never got hurt. Eventually, after that long 3 weeks of a different jockey, Derby Day came. Winter led right out if the gate, like she always did, but the jockey tried to pull her back. Winter reared a bit and jumped forward, bumping the horses running beside her. The jockey pulled back more, and she reared again, but this time her momentum caused her to flip over backwards. The jockey was launched backwards, where the horses farther back accidentally trampled him. Winter thrashed about as she tried to get up, but her back hurt and horses were running all around her. She was only halfway down the backstretch (that's the first long stretch if you didn't know). The race wasn't over yet! How could she not be running still? She squealed out in pain and fury, but no one came to help her until the rest of the horses were rounding the first turn, because they didn't want to ruin the race. The ambulance came to get her jockey, who wasn't moving at all, and then a track vet got her and took her to the horse hospital via van and stretcher. She got chiropractic therapy on her back, but she had to stay at the hospital for 9 months recovering. When she could finally go home, she was still stiff, and rather aggressive. She learned that the harsh jockey had died, which only made her worse. After a month of trying to handle the monster, they put her in a large, vacant field a ways away from the racehorse farm. She couldn't have raced anymore, anyway. She escaped a few days later, but is scarred due to tangled barb wire fencing where she escaped from. A couple days later, she found the herd. She no longer is stiff, but her back hurts her in long, cold rainstorms. She blames herself for the jockey's death, even though she hated him. Was it her stubbornness that killed him? Or his ignorance to her?

---

Breed: Thoroughbred

Coat: Rose gray, but she's a bit grayer that typical rose grays. She has some fleabitten speckles on her back.

Markings: A bit of rabicano, but it's really just part of her weird gray color. She has a number tattoo on her upper lip because she is a registered TB.

Eyes: Dark brown.

Mane/Tail: Lightish gray with darker sections towards the middle.

Note: She used to have shoes, but she eventually lost them, resulting in cracked hooves. Plus, her mane is a bit longer now, but it's still cut flat across at the bottom like most showhorses. And she's 16.3 hh.

---

Crush: n/a, she's not romantically driven.

Other: x Will possibly make a male later.
