|| Malkia ||

She turned to her mother and nodded. "So when is our marriage to happen? Though I wish it not to happen it is the good of our prides, right Prince Hamu? That is, if you can give up that wretched white lioness?" She sneered with a smirk, hoping to make her parents realize what a terrible pride this was, allowing a white lion to be in the pride, let alone so close to the Prince.

"Malkia! Where are your manners and respect?" Demanded King Kifo. "I am so sorry, King Tawi and Queen Anina, my daughter is out of sorts today, she and Kilio have been disagreeing lately, it must have taken a tool on her." Said Queen Maisha, glaring at Malkia, who raised her head, snorting.

|| Roho ||

She had joined the other lionesses of both prides and Prince Kilio. She heard what Malkia said and opened her eyes wide in shock. "How dare she! I am just as much a lion as any of you! And Hamu and I have nothing going on!" She shook her head, as one of the lionesses tried to comfort her.

(So should we have it where the prides will be combined through the marriage? Like once both the king and queen from each pride die, Hamu and Malkia are set to take over, pushing Kilio out of the heir position?)

|| Hamu ||

King Tawi narrowed his eyes toward Malkia, while Anina shot Hamu a a brief suspicious glare.

"That's quite alright," Anina replied, but Tawi butted in.

"You two, listen up." He snapped, taking a step forward to stand before Malkia and Hamu, "I don't expect either of you to like this arrangement, but I do expect you two to make it work. Part of being royal is being betrothed for the good of your pride. You're both old enough to put petty disagreements aside and be mature enough to handle this. You're both looked up to and need to set good examples. In ten days you will be wed."

Hamu dug his claws into the ground. Ten days? That was it? He didn't want to marry this immature brat! She was the one who had started the argument earlier, not him! He hadn't done anything to provoke her! Fine. He could mature. In fact, he would be *so* nice to Malkia in front of the kings and queens that they would all wonder how they got such a great lion like Hamu to marry *her*.

"Of course, father." Hamu dipped his head, "I was just about to come find Malkia anyway. Earlier you offered to show me around the Grasslands? My paws are well rested now and I feel it would be a good time for us to get to know each other."

|| Kilio ||

Turning his head, Kilio watched Roho silently. While others in the pride might have something against white lions, he had no quarrels. Of course they were naturally poorer hunters, but he would never show prejudice against one. And if Roho didn't like Malkia, she was worth making an ally. An enemy of his enemy was his friend, right?

"Don't worry, Roho," Kilio started, walking over to her, "Malkia's just bitter about this whole ordeal and will make up anything to end it."

(Sure, but Kilio and Roho, because he is of royal blood, could start their own pride?)

|| Malkia ||

She knew exactly what Hamu was doing. Well two can play at that game. "Yes, well, let's go then." She said, raising her head as she began walking towards the dens, multiple fallen trees and branches that were covered in coarse zebra and antelope pelts, with other softer ones beneath. "This is our dens, were the pride sleeps. Though cubs, elderly, and the royal family sleep in the rocks, so they have more chelter and are away from storms and the cold and such." She said, before continuing to walk.

|| Roho ||

"Back off, Kilio. You are as much my enemy as your sister to me currently." She growled as she laid with her paws covering her face. She could feel the eyes of King Kifo on her, he obviously did not approve of having her in the priode, no matter what he or Queen Maisha said.

(Ohhh yeah!)

|| Hamu ||

Hamu dipped his head to both sets of parents before following Malkia, head raised and tail swishing. 'Just imagine she's Roho.' He told himself. That was impossible. Roho was so much more graceful and her pelt always reflected the sun and the way she placed each was so delicately. Malkia was no Roho, and she could never replace her.

"Homey." Hamu commented, walking slowly after Malkia. "And what about the sick? I would hope they wouldn't have to stay out in the cold, or with the royals who would risk catching the illness. Or perhaps you just chase them off so you don't have to deal with the problem. You know, since your pride can't work with a disgraceful white lioness."

|| Kilio ||

"I'm appalled that you would even begin to compare me to my sister! Trust me, we're nothing alike. She's pampered, spoiled, and adorned, I'm cast off to the side and forgotten about. I try my best not to be associated with her at all times."

|| Malkia ||

"Our pride hasn't had a sick lion or lioness while I have been old enough to understand what we do with them. I'm assuming the stay in a den that leads off of the rocks." She said, trying her best not to growl. "Now, this is the watering hole we use to drink and fish, and where cubs may play as it is shallow, though adolescents and younger lionesses are always to be supervising." She bent down, lapping up the crystal cold water before turning to think of what to do next.

"Next let's go see...the hunting grounds." She said, turning and beginning to walk towards the tall, dry open grass.

|| Roho ||

Shaking her head she snorted. "You two are both very similar. But both of you would be better lions if you respected others, or at least more than yourselves." She growled, before beginning to groom her fluffy white pelt.

|| Hamu ||

"Whoa, slow down there, princess. You don't have to go through everything so much." Hamu grinned. "What's the rush? Don't wanna be around me, doll?" He purred, brushing through the tall grass that occasionally reached up to his shoulders.

|| Kilio ||

"Now hold on, I show plenty of respect. Give me the name of a single lion other than Malkia who I haven't respected? I'm respecting you. Stars, I stood up for you earlier! I'll have you know that the only enemy I have in my pride is my sister. Ask anyone else and they'll tell you that I'm kind." Of course, since Kilio had been ignored by his parents so much as a cub he basically grew up around the normal ranking lions, and thus had become very good friends with many of them. He viewed many of them as equals to himself.

|| Malkia ||

"No I don't. I wan't to spend as little time with you as possible the next ten days." She snorted as she continued walking through the tall grass. "This is where we hunt our antelope and zebra, and occasionally we get a giraffe or kudu." She informed him with a shaky sigh. "Though lately prey has been extremely scarce. That is part of the reason my parents were so quick to marry me off." She said as they continued walking. "Any questions?"

|| Roho ||

"Just leave me be, Kilio!" She growled, obviously upset. The last thing she needed was Hamu's brother in law to be friends with her. "I just need some space." She stood up, walking in the opposite direction that Malkia and Hamu went.

|| Hamu ||

"I do have a question, actually." Hamu sat down, curling his tail until it rested over his front paws. "What is it that you have against me? I get that we didn't really hit it off, but why do you have to continue to aggravate me? It's not my fault we have to marry! I hardly think it's fair to use that a reason to treat me poorly. I can't say I'm happy about this, either, but it's not going to change so we may as well get used to each other."

|| Kilio ||

"Watch out for hyenas! They come onto our territory quite frequently!" Kilio called after her, a small smirk on his face. Sooner or later he would make her an ally. She could be useful.

|| Malkia ||

"You want to know what I have against you? You have everything you could ever want, a loving pride, free will, someone who is special to you. You have everything I have ever wanted. And yet you are so snotty and lazy. You expect the world to bow at her paws." She didn't look at him, feeling like she was going to explode. For being such a pretty lioness, she was very quick-tempered. "You're parents treat you with respect. They don't shelter you from things like the outside world, yet they still protect you. I don't get it...why a lion like you and a lioness like me would be good rulers together." She growled, turning to look at him, her blue eyes sparkling with lonelyness and regret and desire.

|| Roho ||

"If you are so scared for my well being, why don't you come protect me?" She roared back to him sarcastically as she kept walking, her speed increasing slightly as she kept moving. So much anger was built up inside her because she had to give up Hamu to Malkia, and she didn't even want him!

|| Hamu ||

"You assume my life is so perfect but you have known me for less than an hour. You have no idea who I truly am. Free will? Right. If free will means my parents must know where I am every second of my life and don't let me leave the pride camp without at least two others with me 'for protection.' As for snotty and lazy, please, give me examples of when either of those characteristics have been shown. I'm sorry if I'm considered being lazy for not wanting to go on some stupid walk with some stupid lioness after walking to this poor excuse of a pride for five days with only one break at night! So before you're so quick to assume things, princess, don't think that you have it worse than anyone else. No one likes someone who wants pity." Hamu snarled. She had no idea what he went through! She had no right to call him those things! Was he so lucky to be forced to marry a lioness he barely knew above the lioness he had given his heart to? Was that the kind of privilege he got? "Do you even think of anyone other than yourself? Look at your reflection for once." Hamu turned and stalked off back the way they came. With any luck, some wild lion would come and steal her and he'd be free of her.

It happened suddenly. So suddenly that Hamu barely had time to register what was happening. A sharp pain erupted in his side, much like the feeling of someone's claw digging in. Turning around, Hamu stared at a tiny feathered needle that stuck out of him. He had heard stories of these things-- of tranquilizers. He had never expected one to be used on him.

Poachers.

The word barely went through his mind before his vision began going hazy and he suddenly felt very, very tired. If he could just make it back to the pride... but no. He could barely take three steps without stumbling. It only took a minute for the full effect to come, and Hamu felt down, unconscious. Just a few hundred yards away two men crouched behind a shrub, one watching Hamu, the other gesturing toward Malkia.

|| Malkia ||

The pale tawny lioness was about to turn on him, when her shoulder erupted into immense pain. She yowled out in pain, but within a minute she was out cold beside Hamu, her entire vision black as she cried out for help. But then she was asleep, being dragged into a truck. Unbeknownst to them, they were going to be taken very far from the prides.

-an hour or so later-

Her blue eyes slowly opened, very blurry at first, but slowly everything came into focus. She was in a cube with bars enclosing her, a part of it rattling as it came undone on both the cage she was in and the one Hamu was in.

"Hamu...Hamu!" She growled, hoping he would waken. They could jump out of the truck, their cages had opened from the bumpy road. They could get back to the prides that were probably worried sick about the two.

"Hamu, come one, we can get back to the prides...however far away from them we are.." She groaned as she looked out. They weren't even in the grasslands anymore, everything was sandy and no trees, very little water or life anywhere.

(I think while they are away, which should be a few months, Roho and Kilio fall in love and take over leadership of the prides, and Roho becomes pregnant with Kilio's cubs, but when Hamu and Malkia return, Kilio gives up leadership?)

(Oh yeah, I really like that idea. Kilio might actually try to repair his relationship with Malkia after realizing he actually missed her and... yeah. Yeah! Good idea!)

|| Hamu ||

In his slumber, Hamu's dreams were filled with pleasant thoughts. Malkia was replaced by Roho, and they were ruling a large pride together. Everything was peaceful, prey was plentiful, and Hamu actually felt happy. On his back a cub jumped and growled playfully in his ears. Soon enough, the growl became louder, angrier, and Hamu felt himself being jolted awake by the bumpiness of a vehicle and the sound of Malkia growling-- a sound that was already too recognizable.

"Wha...?" Hamu sat up groggily, a little bit dizzy. His head hit the top of a small cage and he was suddenly alert. Where were they? How long had he been out?

"What's going on?"

(Yeah, and Roho thought that Hamu was dead, so she had completely move on from him, to the point where she was almost obsessed with Kilio because she had been so heartbroken over Hamu's "death".)

|| Malkia ||

"Hamu it doesn't matter, just jump!" She demanded before jumping down out of the fast moving truck. She turned back to look at him, hoping he would jump out and follow her. She knew they were very far from the grasslands, let alone the pride. She would never make it back to them alone.

"Come on Hamu, you won't make it if that thing goes any faster! Jump already!" She roared, desperation in her voice as she kept her eyes on him. She stilled hated him, but she relied on him now, she didn't know how to hunt very well, and while she knew a few defensive moves, she couldn't really protect herself if something attacked.

(Ah... this is so horribly beautiful! Poor Roho...)

|| Hamu ||

Jump? *Jump out of this moving thing???* Was she crazy? Now, Hamu may be brave against other lions, but when it came to jumping out of a bumpy metal moving machine he wasn't quite so bold. He hesitated, looking from Malkia to the ground moving below him to his own paws. Silently he willed them to move, but he didn't have it in him to jump.

He had to. If he stayed there was a good chance he would die. Squeezing his eyes shut, Hamu crouched down and gave a mighty leap with his hind legs, tumbling rather ungracefully onto the ground and doing a complete somersault. Sitting up, Hamu shook out his dirtied mane, wincing slightly but otherwise unscathed. "I'm out, I'm out." Hamu muttered, walking over to Malkia. "Now what? How long were we in that stupid thing?"
