# Of Horses To Start? HAALLPP

#49583 Posted on 2016-06-27 14:46:52

Mods, feel free to move this if it is in the wrong place. I didn't think it was a big enough issue/question to put in the "Help! I'm Lost" section.

SO Agapi is going to POSSIBLY stay. But ONLY to breed horses, no more forums and arts and stuff. This way I don't have to make a commitment to anything really.

Anyway, if I do stay, I am going to breed TB's, and maybes some others (probs Arabs, Dutchies, and maybe one or two others). But I have absolutely no clue how many starters/store foals to start with! So my question to you all is (if you didn't guess based on this last few sentences and the title) what number of no lineage/EC/store foals do I start with to get a good herd going?

Please give me suggestions on this, and other things to you TB breeders who breeding in Racing, what do you do with your horses to get them to max profit making and such? I'm pretty clueless as I have never gotten really serious with breeding.

Thanks!

anywho, thanks. I thought 15-25 was a good number, but I'll keep adding some once in a while in mind too! Thanks again!

If you're keeping the lines and want to breed down to 1-2 'ultimate' foals, then a number that breaks down into pairs: 8, 16, 32, 48... etc.

If you're wanting to just keep your own lines going and don't mind too much about if those lines have somewhat uneven pedigrees, what Zell said. Start with 10-20, get them aged up a bit, then add more. I still like to keep mine in pairs though, so I always have a pair to breed a horse with.

@Zell. Mocking her is very rude, fyi, if you not know that. What the heck was it even meant for? You should of just said what your answer was instead instead of RUDELY mocking myself sister. You have done rude things in the past, and I am sure will happen in the future. I do not care how rudely or spiteful you answer to my message, I just want this message to get through your brain. Instead of being spiteful to be spiteful, you should try looking to make sure that that message doesn't make other people feel upset or offended. I quite frankly don't want this to go out of hand, but you have been none the less hateful to many people on here. I just want you to stop it. And I am sure others would too. Now, usually I would stay out of it, but this is the last time you have said something just to be, spiteful.

Ahh, didnt even think of pairing! Haha, thanks Nit! Pairing does sound like I good way to keep things a bit more organized, but that might just be me as well.

Anyway, I usually start with 5-10. This was before I started breeding Arabs, but now my horses are locked because I am taking a break.

Please keep responses on topic and possibly refresh game and forum etiquette knowledge by reading through the ToS again. Thank you.

I started out with about 22 horses, which may be a bit much, and sort of a weird number. I pair off my original horses with each other and then will breed them at the two latest points they are able. The two foal crops will be separated into their own individual divisions and I will buy the same number of EC horses to raise with them to continue my lines with as little line-breeding as possible.

Line breeding is when you breed a second/third/fourth/etc. gen to a EC horse right? Pardon my ignorance, I'm not to great at remembering breeding terms, xD

If you want to start with a breed, I highly suggest Gypsy Vanners!!! I have two fine Gypsy's for sale and can cut you a deal. :) Out of two of my store horses, so their lines are safe. :)

Also, when it comes to line breeding, pretty sure that it is where you breed your lined horse to a store horse every generation. :) It sure would guarantee that you won't inbreed!!! :)

I might do GV's, but currently don't have the money for anything more than a few store horses at a time, xD

I start with the small number of 64 ;) normally, but sometimes I vary this number.

16 is a good starting number that pairs out nicely and can keep you from becoming overwhelmed.

Linebreeding is technically a nice term for "inbreeding". It just tends to be a higher degree of separation than straight inbreeding.
