How many lines?

#4528 Posted on 2016-02-17 18:21:05

Since inbreeding is no longer a thing, how many lines would one need to retain in order to keep your lines going? Right now, it's not a problem since I'm starting fresh, but I'm guessing it will get to a point where there just may not be horses of comparable stats somewhere down the road and it'll be all "well, darn" lol So, I'm just wondering if anyone knows how many lines I'd have to keep up with to not run into a problem in a couple months' time.

Some people (myself included) add new store horses on a regular basis.

I plan to add 10 new store horses (5 new pairs) every 3-5 weeks. That way I will always have new blood. It will require a lot of locking horses and pairing them carefully but I think the challenge will be fun.

The thing to remember is that every generation is 1/2 of the one before it.

Say you have 100 horses (50 pairs), the next generation you'll have 50 horses (which aren't related in any way), then 25, then 12 (and one extra horse that can't be paired), then 6, then 2 (with one extra horse), then 1.

So in seven generations you will be down to 1 horse without a mate, if you started out with 100 horses. However remember that 8 generations on this game will take roughly 140 weeks (or just over 2 and 1/2 years) if you wait to breed horses until they are 20
