Record keeping

#44019 Posted on 2016-06-04 04:40:07

Good morning all. I'm making a quick stop here on my way to the barn . How do you all keep records on your horses and how detailed are your records.? Daily or weekly stat increases. Shows won? Money earned? Thanks

I have an Excel (well, the OpenOffice version) spreadsheet that I use. One sheet is used for stat gain per week and overall stats. The remaining four sheets are divided by breed and discipline (ie. Andalusians - Dressage, GypsyVanners - Driving, etc.), and there I have a row per horse that shows the breakdown of the conformation and the important parts of genotype. I use these sheets to plan my breedings down the road. In-game the horses are divided by discipline and breed to make treating easier, except the foals who from 0-3 get hay cubes.

I have tried so many ways, to keep records but then I can't be bothered to type anymore, I am planning on writing on the private notes, of the horses with there stats, confo and much more.

Well right now I'm in the process of making stat gain graphs for different treatments of horses on my spare account. For that project I collect data once per week (the day the horses age). You can take a look at the project if you want.

Anyway more to the point, I record the stats weekly. Then I use Excel to graph the trends in stat gain.

So far it seems to indicate that horses should get ~10 stats per week from treating alone, they are still young but I think that many of my horses are getting ~30-50 stats per week from competing, and every 10 days you can get 11+ stats from training your horse.

I never track number of shows won, money earned is recorded on the horses' page so I don't track that either. If the foal of two horses has an average conformation that exceeds at least on parent then I keep the foal, I feel that a foal should always exceed at least one parent. I only track the conformation of foals and use it to pair adults, but never record it in my records. (I'm somewhat of a lazy player when it comes to recording data).

@Lurk If you want I can put my spreadsheet up on Google docs so you can have access to it if you're looking for a template? I'm almost done formatting it how I want it.

Cool, I'll send it to you once it's up. Probably tomorrow? I feel like a glob of goop today and haven't finished the last bit of formatting.
