GIMP Help?

#31361 Posted on 2016-04-16 07:59:37

Just downloaded GIMP. I'm playing around with it and was wondering how to use what was called "Multiply" on my old program. It's where all the layers are blended together...

Also, it used to have this thing where I could adjust brush size in the tool box but now it just says "Drag blah blah blah." SO confused!

Multiply is still there!

Right here, on the layers bar. Open a new file and you'll see it in the dropdown above opacity.

And brush size is right here.

Click somewhere in the white bar, and literally just drag it!

GIMP has everything other programs have just in a different layout.

For the brush size, what do I drag? That stuff disappeared and I have no idea what to drag. xD

For multiply - I can only paint on what already has been painted on the other layer...

There's like, a blue bar that should appear for you to drag. Or use the arrows to make it bigger or smaller!

And what? O - o Multiply changes the color settings of whatever layer you put it on. So, if you have a layer of blue, and then make a new layer with a streak of the same blue and set it to multiply, the result is a darker blue. It's useful for linearts with white backgrounds; you can color in the lines and they won't be covered up.

Do you have a transparent background? if you try to color on that with multiply it won't show up. or maybe you have the layer locked, is there a little box nearby with a check in it?

I have a transparent background. *facepalm* Thanks!

No little blue bar or arrows?

That's not there. This is what I have in my "Toolbox":
