Using unique characters is really common on EV as a method for players to differentiate their horses & put information in the horses' names. Unfortunately, these symbols work in some places but not in others. Which if you're like me, you only discovered after changing all 500+ of your horses names to include these broken symbols.

The unicode blocks that seem to be bugged / not fully implemented are


  • Cyrillic ( Ж )

  • Phonetic Extensions, U+1D00 - U+1D7F ( ᴄ ᴃ )

  • Greek and Coptic ( ϧ )

  • Letterlike Symbols (ℱ )


I'm certain that there's more, but those are just the ones that I've noticed aren't working from the limited number of symbols that I use. 

And the places they're somewhat/fully broken is

  • everything in the bank

  • everything in 'game notifications'

  • everything in 'journal'

  • Notifications for achievements in 'activity feed'

  • rare issues in pedigree (e.g. when I use two 'ᴄ | | latin letter small capital c (U+1D04)' in a row, the 2nd one is broken)

  • most things in 'marketplace' (don't have example but just remembered it)



If it's not possible (for hardware reasons or whatever) to implement all of these, then it would at least be good to know what unicode blocks are supported across EV. Or if only so many can be implemented, maybe a poll to see which ones the community actually uses. 

I'm pretty sure a post on this has been made before & that I interacted with that post, but I looked through my post history and couldn't find it.

It's odd that in the activity feed (4th example image), some notifications are broken and others aren't.

All '?' symbols represent a broken character that works elsewhere on EV (i.e. on the horses page).

don't mind the garbage imgur implementation of the 5 examples, image insertion tool wasn't working for some reason. probably user error lol.

Adding to your list of unrecognized Unicode blocks.
- Different Languages (especially the ones from Asian countries and Middle Eastern countries) such as Korean Hangul (한글), Japanese Kanji (漢字), Hiragana (ひらがな), and Katakana (カタカナ), Arabic Alphabet (الْأَبْجَدِيَّة الْعَرَبِيَّة), etc.
- Latin Extensions such as S-comma (Ș/ș) and T-comma (Ț/ț)

Just wanted to say that this isn't intentional, it was due to text corruption in 2018 and only restored for member/horse names and forums. It did all used to work at one point so unsure why exactly it wasn't restored for other areas of the site other than just being an oversight or causing/preventing further issues.
