Critique my shading?

#18508 Posted on 2016-03-12 18:52:54

I've been doing a lot experimenting and practicing, but, I find Im WORST at eyes...so I decided to practice them. Yes I did the lines, and Im not looking for critique on the shape or skin. Just the Iris of the eye.

I think it looks great! but if you're trying to make it look more realistic, maybe add a reflection?
otherwise I think the color placement and shading is pretty spot on.

Maybe add a reflection (As Harley said) and/or a few more colours less blended :)

I think it looks great, very detailed. Perhaps instead of having the edge black it could be a dark colour similar to the colours in the iris. Dark navy blue, perhaps? Or you could take the mixed colours all the way to the edge? I like the effect of the dark rim though.

I don't know what style you were going for in this piece but if you were going for a realistic style, maybe add a double eyelid?
The lashes seem to be perfect and shaved..? I'd try to make the lashes messier, let them go everywhere on the lid.
As for the eye itself, we don't have eyeballs that are perfectly white:> Just look up eye at google and you'll notice there is shadow and eyeballs have bloodvessels as well:)
The pupil seems odd to me.. I don't know how to explain that but I got a picture here. Maybe using refs?

Looks good Buck! I would try to not smudge the pupil too much, it looses it's detail that way. try to use a hard brush, and a little less smudge. :)

thank you all!

My style isn't meant to be hyper realistic though, I WOULD love to be ale to do hyper realism eventually
