Grapies had a rather traumatic day

Well hem

School was going great we had almost sold out of cookies (fundraiser) one of my friends was having some troubles but all was well. I was gon wall down to the park with them after but then I got the most wonderful surprise. A doctors appointment more specifically a vaccination and I must point out that I have a rather severe phobia of needles. So I was really annoyed with my parents because they hadn't told me and freaking out over the appointment. That happened the upside being I got chocolate after XD. Park was ok I guess but now I feel bad because my parents didn't go out because I was nauseas and my arm hurt because it had been tense for some stated reasons.

That's quite a block of text
Phone typing is hard so ignore any mistakes
Not trying to start a pity party but twould be great to mebbe chat with some people because I am trying not to think of some certain events which is the other reason I wrote this, just so it's down somewhere

Hope you're okay now. Needles are horrid! But they're for the best. x

I liked getting shots in school just because we got to get out of class XD is that weird? Haha

I hope you're feeling better though. I can only imagine how that must have been for someone with a needle phobia D:

Most people don't actually have a needle phobia... a phobia is an irrational fear that severely impacts how you function in life. IMO, being afraid (to any extent) of sharp objects piercing your body and injecting things or removing life-sustaining blood is extremely rational.

I'm seriously afraid of needles. It doesn't affect my daily life to a point where I'm paranoid that I'll be stabbed by one at random (THAT would be a needle phobia and entirely irrational), but when I go to appointments where I need a vaccination, blood drawn, or an IV... yeeeeaaaah. I used to be chill about it. Now I cry like a baby and have panic attacks. Eventually I'll likely have to take oral sedatives beforehand or risk fighting my doctors over needles.

I find that having a conversation with my attending (and not watching) helps me immensely. If I had to rate from most tolerable to least, I'd go with vaccination - IV - blood drawing. Vaccinations are quick and easy (though it depends on the vaccine... the HPV series, no way, I'm not even going back for my second one). IVs I can handle because after the initial prick and getting used to it, I can force myself to ignore it. Drawing blood? Forget it. I get really queasy and can sometimes even pass out. No thank you.

I also find it ironic that I am 100% fine with getting piercings and tattoos... like... how? I turn into a whimpering pile of mush for medical procedures, but body modification and I'm excited and totally cool. I have to say, though, that getting my snake bites was probably the most pain I have dealt with regarding needles. Lips are really sensitive. Getting the Nexplanon subdermal birth control implant wasn't so bad either... of course they did do a local anesthesia injection first (which in itself wasn't much more than a pinch) and I didn't feel the actual implant go in at all. I was like, "I heard a click... what?" turned to look and my arm is bleeding and it's all over like "oh." It didn't even hurt later when the anesthesia wore off XD

Yuuppp
It's more of a fear than a phobia I guess, I actually dunno when it started probably when I got the tetanus one which was just UGH. I cant even stand pictures or even seeing the bandaids on peoples arms. Hem nearly slapped my friend for showing me hers once...

I generally am fine about daily life but really if I know that imma have a appointment that day or week I just am flipping out the whole time ;-; That is why my parents didn't tell me I guess its just GAH. I hope I get over it because nearly breaking down in tears at school when I realised thats what they meant by appointment was pretty annoying especially since most people don't realise it because I somehow can talk about it. I can say I have the best family because my mother jokingly/seriously said we starting calling it the "N" word lol

-huggles Vos- I didn't think of hurting anyone I really just can't but half of me was really tempted to run off when we go to the office but the small part of me not freaking out was like "uh no Grapie you are not doing that you have no clue where you are also thats just a stupid idea"
I don't have to get another one for a while so maybe by then I'll have a way of dealing with it other than listening to music which honestly did nothing lol.

thatwaslong

EDIT: Siren, I dunt get out of school early I just get out at 1 on fridays anyway sooo thats when it is....

ooh. My parents never took me to get shots at a doctor's office. I think I got shots when I was 5 there though.. But all the other ones I had, the school required everyone in certain grades get, so that means getting out of class XD

Yuck shots. I would rather go to school than go to the doctors anyday.

Blech, I hate needles. Then I got diagnosed with an illness that needs to be treated through blood tests, meaning I had to get blood drawn at least once a month for a while and now once a year. And any time my dosage changes, blood drawn every 6 weeks until it stabilizes. Ick. If you get enough needles stabbed at you, the fear doesn't go away, but you learn how to deal with it. Don't look, tell them not to count down (trust me, it makes a difference), and distract yourself with something. I usually squeeze the handle of a chair or hold my phone so I have something to squeeze. And I remind myself that other people have to live with needles in them all the time or constantly get shots, blood draws, etc. and it makes it a bit less bad.
