quick question??

#8577 Posted on 2016-02-23 15:08:36

so I have a question? say if you did a tag sale and you didn't put the credit for the free lines you used on the image but you put it in the description giving full credit to the person you used it from?.... I don't think it is allowed but I have seen a few people do it so I just wanted to know??????

It depends on the license. If the original line artist says: Give me credit. Well that's pretty loose so technically the person saying the credit in the post alone is correct.

However if the original line artist says to put the credit in the image of use, then the editing artist is outside the license guidelines if they leave it off.

This is my best interpretation at least.

You can always credit yourself. You can do so by providing a link, like you mentioned, or writing your signature on the art, or even adding your EV ID to it.

According to EV's rules you must put credits for the artist on the artwork, regardless of their rules regarding the art.

Also crediting yourself is best, but not sure about the EV rules on that...

Yay for Aglet for keeping us in the black. I was unaware of that rule. Glad I know it now! Another reason to keep using my own lines XD

I think there aren't any rules on it? It's your art therefore your choice???

According to the terms and conditions, the only situation in which you will be permitted to leave credits off an image is when the artist has specified that you do not need to credit directly upon the image. In that situation, crediting on your topic is considered acceptable.

Works that state clearly they do not require references ON the work itself should still be referenced somewhere public alongside the work, whether it's in a topic selling the modified work, or similar.

Unless the artist specifically states that this method of crediting is acceptable, you must credit directly on the piece. If the lines/whatever you are using do not specifically clarify that references can be off the work, always add them. Crediting of the artist on the topic for the sale will not be good enough in situations where credit must be directly associated with the work, because the topic does not last forever and will not be permanently connected to the piece of art. The tag, sig, or whatever it is will continue to exist regardless of what the original posting said, so generally speaking it must have credits listed specifically on it.

As for crediting yourself, it's usually a good idea, in order to clarify who made the work (so there can be no room for confusion as to its creator, particularly in regard to sales).
