Pedigree Lines

#5857 Posted on 2016-02-19 14:02:15

Actually, I don't mind inbreeding in RL since it happens all the time. I just don't like inbreeding in the game. Why? It takes away challenge and a lot of breeders decided to keep their lines private. With inbreeding block, it forces players to venture outside of their herds and boost the market.

It also takes away from the idea of "people can play the game how they want to".

Quite frankly, I hate having to deal with the rest of the game's notion on what makes a "good" horse. I'm not interested in finding the /perfect/ stallion only to find out that no, I can't get a breeding from him because he's already had his 3 foals, or that my mare has "uneven lines", or whatever arbitrary rule the breeder has imposed on those who want to breed to their horses. I don't want to deal with any of it.

I am quite happy to sit in my own little corner and play with my pixel ponies. I dislike forced interaction.

I'm not telling anyone how to play the game; I was trying to explain how and why I play the game the way that I do.

I don't care about distant (very distant) inbreeding in RL (I understand that is is inevitable) I enjoy trying to avoid it in the game because I gives me more of a challenge to try and make sure there is no inbreeding in my lines. Yes this is an abstract line I drew for myself; but I enjoy the challenge. I don't think my horses are "better" than an inbred horse, but I still will not buy an inbred horse because it will not work in my breeding program. It's no different than not buying a horse because it is grey. Grey horses aren't worse than bays, or creams, but there are people who won't buy them. Inbreeding makes it much easier to get desired coat colors and markings, so I like to avoid it for the challenge.

I decided to restart with foundations - made custom Dutch Warmbloods this time - and go from there. I try to keep from inbreeding but sometimes it happens.

On one hand I am gutted about the word deceased in my beloved Dutchies because I rarely sell/breed to outside stallions & meticulously avoided inbreeding like a mad thing and I know for a fact I own the vast majority of my pixels right back to when I first started about 6 years ago & about 10 - 13 generations down the line so yes its depressing. On the other its just a game!

However I do live in hope of said lines being filled in at some point (for my own peace of mind) as I think I read somewhere on EV a few days ago.

Otherwise Im just continuing as normal & because I don't sell to the public much its then up to other players if they want to buy a horse with deceased in its lines or breed to a stallion like that.
