Dapples are hard [updated wips!]

I suppose this will be just an update post on a particular little piece I'm doing for a friend, nothing spectacular but definitely a learning process!! My ref is this teeny weeny image compared to the canvas size I'm using, so it's definitely been....interesting. Greys are the ugliest/most difficult things to block in color, I swear.



This is the main canvas that it's on (with a wip up above that probably won't be started on till much later).



This is a more detailed look at the one I'm working on! I've actually found an easier, less painstaking way to do dapples (without cheating and using a dapple specific brush -- pain builds character haha) so this image is just a tidbit old, but I'll be sure to post more.

Time (so far) : about 4-5 hours (not all in one sitting)

This is looking really good! I love the poses; especially for the first one. I want your skill with drawing hooves realistically lol. :') Mine only look half-decent when drawn in a somewhat cartoony style haha!

I looked at some of your other pieces, and I really love them (especially color blocking, that makes me happy)! And the contact between horse & rider- I'm not really sure how to explain it haha, but there's a nice weight there...the two look very natural. anyway, im a fan :)
oh, also the lighting!! very nice!! and the dapples give me life, thank you for sharing!!!

Tree - Thank you so much! Hooves can be sorta funky for me as well, I know the pain -- I like to get away with covering them up in sand and pretending they're just in deep footing hahahah

Pommatre - Haa thank you !! I can't live without color blocking 8') lighting would be a nightmare lol! You are so kind!!

I'm debating on whether or not to offer sales, but I think my art isn't exactly tag/sig material lol. I may be better off doing images for themes (is that even a thing??? who knows!) But I'm also still trying to keep my head above the dreaded waters of classes so my time has unfortunately been limited as of late.

The jumping one inspired me to make a jumping thing of my own! :)

Here is the finished grey (friendly reminder -- don't use!) and a wip of something else. My wrist has been killing me lately and I've been bogged with exams, but hark! I'm stubborn!
