Item Marketplace Updates

#267491 Posted on 2023-03-21 12:22:50

Recently I was decluttering my inventory and went to list some items in the marketplace. I found it difficult to estimate what prices people are actually buying items at, and I think a couple of small changes would fix this.

To give an example, if you look at any of the bags of apples in the marketplace right now, you will find the price per 5 uses can vary anywhere from $150 to $500, with many listings averaging around the $300 range. With these items available in the general store at $200 each, I have a hard time believing anyone is actually buying these. However, I have no way of knowing if these are just really old listings with outdated prices, or if people have just bought out all of the listings at a lower price and only the marked up listings are left. This makes it difficult to choose what I should price these items at.

The first change I would suggest is to add either a timestamp for when the listing was posted or a value for how many days the listing has been active. Here is an example of what this could look like.

The second change would be to add an extra tab where we can see sold listings. Here is an example of this change. To avoid having to store lots of data this could be kept for only a certain timeframe, for example 30 or 60 days.

I think these changes wouldn't be too burdensome to implement but would help a lot with how useful the marketplace is in terms of getting items sold in a reasonable timeframe.

Marketplace and Item Listings really need a major rehaul, IMO. I like the idea of seeing how long the item has been listed, so you have my support.
